Nostalgia galore! My kids & I LOVE this store. Located on historic Gay St in downtown Knoxville this store has everything from clothing, shoes, jewelry, climbing/hiking gear, kitchen items, recipe books along with ingredients, decorations and saving the best for last what theyre uniquely known for THE CANDY BARRELS! Yes! Old timey barrels full of eras of candy such as what you or your grandparents enjoyed as a child! They also have toys from the different eras as well! There are small baskets for you to fill with the mix of your choice. They charge by the pound so theres no limit to what you can buy. Also, there is a cooler full of pop top rootbeer, coca~cola beverages & a few more. Even if you do not buy anything Mast General is just an amazing place to visit!

Great place to look around in downtown Knoxville! Upstairs is mainly clothing, candy shopping and outdoorsy cooking or crafty items . Downstairs is the outdoor equipment, clothing and bags if actually going into the outdoors. Overall staff is friendly, but Ive been there usually just looking around. The down side is a lot of the clothing that they have fit the middle of the road sizes. I cant really seem to find any of the clothing that I REALLY want in my sizes. Dont expect a BIG & TALL section here. They do have some pet stuff, but rather limited to the actual pet store places. Even with that, I would recommend at least stopping by and checking it out. THEY ALLOW PETS, as long as they stay out of the candy bins and dont bark.

I love visiting here whenever we are downtown. It reminds me of an old general store with a little bit of everything. My favorite area is the candy section because it is filled with a lot of candy you cant find now a days. They have a unique collection of clothes, housewares, outdoors, shoes, toys, and specialty foods. There is something for everyone and many items make wonderful gifts. If you are lucky they will be popping fresh popcorn while you are there. It is only 50 cents and it is a nice little treat while you are browsing the store. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We looked at some shoes for my husband there and the staff member was super knowledgeable which was a plus.

I appsolutely love this store! They have all kinds of unique things! I like shopping here for my three children. I can get my oldest daughter whom is a senior at UTK all of her UT apparel, they have everything from Tennessee shirts, scarves, UT orange socks etc. I can get my son camping gear and my youngest daughter all the hiking gear she could possibly need! If you havent took the time to visit this store on Gay St. In downtown Knox you dont know what youre missing! Its amazing....they also have unique gifts and a very large candy selection! Its also VERY PET FRIENDLY!!!!!

This is a place of excellence! The staff are as friendly and helpful as a 5 star resort. Very discriminating quality in every product they sell, and the price is either standard or a bit less than other places. They have many quaint items for gifts and are very community minded as a company and the people who work there! I really enjoy Mast General, and have visited then in 3 states and many towns.

Fantastic store. Great place to pick up a jacket, comfortable footwear or a fun gift. Has the feel of an old time small town department store with fun merchandise. Ive always found something for myself or a friend here. Candy section is Awesome. Staff is helpful and friendly. Store is crammed full of interesting merchandise, but is orderly and clean.

A great nostalgic albeit pricey place that feels like youve stepped back in time. They offer clothing, throwback candy by the pound, knick-knacks and pet related things as well as cooking utensils and then in the basement, they have a large pricey selection of outdoor gear and shoes. A must see if youre in the area.

Love the store, it has too much to take in in one visit. We stop in every time we go downtown because they have such a wide variety of neat things to consider. We usually go her to get fun presents that are not of the norm. They have a candy area overflowing with old time candy...it is just a fun place to shop

A collection of charming item. Love the candies by the pound barrel concept. Wide selection of items. Very roomy two levels. Has clean restrooms, store and is wheel accessible too. Unisex restrooms. Very charming. Something for everyone. Prices very and some items a little high but overall charming.

Located right off Gay Street. Great sporting goods section. I sure wish they had petite sizes. Check out the history of store here. It is interesting. Watch for their sales as they have good markdowns. Selection is average. If you are in to candy this may be spot for you.

Go to the Mast General Store right now. It is such a special store. Clothing, camping supplies, southern cooking supplies, books, holiday decorations, vintage toys, vintage candy from 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s that you cant find anywhere else. You need to check this place out.

Cool antiques and specialty items. Two entire floors of goods, many you cant find in very many other places. They even had green river soda. Fun to browse around. Also had camping gear if you were going out into the woods. Staff was helpful and friendly too.

Old meets new! This old time store has a new flare with all the newest styles of clothing, shoes and accessories for all outdoor activities. Dont forget to visit the large candy section with hundreds of different types to choose from!

Mast general store is a staple of Knoxville. I always love a visit here, and it never disappoints. Theres such a variety and the staff are so helpful. Plus, its the only place I can find Blenheims ginger ale.
