If there was another full-service grocery store on the island that did a better job than this place, Id shop there in a heart beat. Though there are a quite a few nice employees there, but in some cases, I have found some staff to be rude and unhelpful. The guys who take care of the carts are lovely, and some of the front desk staff is super sweet. The cashiers change, it seems, every week with the influx and outflow this town has. The stores conditions are fair, if not poor. Ive picked up moldy produce, had colleagues purchase expired infant formula, to name a few. Ive even heard people hired by Stop & Shop corporate call the place a "terrible store". They are constantly running out of items, they jack up the prices because its Nantucket (Im sorry but that excuse can only get you so far on this island.....), and their produce is constantly not up to snuff. Im sure its not their employees faults who try their hardest to manage the store on the island, but their corporate HQ needs to pay more attention to the fact that their highest grossing store in the chain has the lowest quality food items on the island (especially when were paying, on average, 15-20% more per bag of groceries when compared to off island grocers, S&S included).

I live on Nantucket. I go to Stop n Shop almost daily. Its got everything I need. I also love it because its great to have a large chain, well-stocked grocery store. It is conveniently located in the middle of the island and is easy to get to from almost anywhere. They have all the basics and anything youd expect to find in any grocery store, plus they stock local bread from Something Natural. They are well-staffed. But thats their only problem: the staff (mainly the cashiers). You can expect cashiers that are rude, foreign and impatient. They often have conversations in Jamaican (or other languages) with other cashiers and look at you like youre a piece of dog poo they stepped in. However, not all of the people that work there are like this, there are many nice people there (including cashiers). The managers are always helpful and the deli guys are great.

I previously worked at this company, and while working with them I would always get bullied by the workers there, I would complain to the managers and human resource and they did absolutely nothing to fix the issue, other than tell me to ignore it.Eventually the bullying turned physical , and I complained again and they did nothing, and when I finally decide to use self defense against the bully they fired me, and did not fire the bully. This company is not a good company they do nothing to help their workers, and tolerates violence and bullying! Parents be careful in making your teens work here, its not a good company and they are not safe here.

Horrible produce! Very high prices! I know it costs money to ship products to Nantucket, but it doesnt cost THAT much. Most profitable store in the Stop and Shop chain.... I feel this is largely do to taking advantage of locational monopoly. They are the only show in town, and they make huge efforts to keep it that way. Strawberries, blueberries, avocados, tomatoes, etc all go bad after a day at home. Run down store. Frequently out of products. Also, Stop and Shop seems to be a common thread with a lot of credit card identity theft.

Stop and Shop is pretty good. Some things (like baking products, ethnic food prep, almond milk) are waaaay more expensive, but others are reasonable. The cashiers are friendly, so I definitely think that" laooda"s review was uncalled for. If you treat people nicely, then they will probably be nice. Plus, I really loved Jamaica while I was there!

Very disappointing. The produce is like the 1960s, often low quality. The store is poorly managed with an uncreative, dated approach. You would think with the summer volume and cash flow, the island could support a higher end grocery store. Wegmans would clean up here!

A good go-to place for groceries downtown. Close to the docks so you can go ashore and reload your pantry quickly. Good selection of ready to eat lunch-type food when you first walk in on the right. Nice selection and not too overpriced.

Everything you would expect out of a large grocery store. Tends to be busier than you may expect. Staff are frequently restocking shelves as customers are shopping. Due to how supplies get to the island, this isnt unexpected.
