A new low, even for Gander Mountain. My father, a disabled veteran and I spent the majority of the day yesterday completing paperwork at the county clerk’s office to have his newly purchased pistol put on his permit and my permit. After that was completed we headed to the Gander Mountain store in Henrietta NY to complete the transaction. After arriving, taking a number and being called we provided the store associate with our purchase coupon, the associate came back to the counter with the gun and the FFL form F4473 to be filled out by my father. The associate made sure to tell my father to pay attention to question 11.l as it can be confusing. My father filled in the top part of the application and asked me to read question 11 because he didn’t understand the wording. As I was in the process of helping him with the application the associate came back and took the paper and pen and told us that we were not allowed to purchase the gun because it was a “straw” purchase. I explained to the associate that the paperwork specifically states that I am allowed to help him fill out the answers if he has trouble reading the form and the only thing he is required to do is sign it. After a long drawn out conversation filled with half truths and bold faced lies about the legality of what we were doing the gun manager accused my father of being a liar and told us that we were committing a crime. I don’t ever write reviews because I think that people should be allowed to decide for themselves who to give their business to but sadly this is only the final “straw” that broke the camel’s back. For them to tell two law abiding gun owners with pistol permits, one of whom is a disabled a American veteran that they are liars and committing a crime is insulting, degrading and discriminatory. I would expect that as an FFL dealer they would be able to read and understand the instructions on the form.

They were able to get the rifle I wanted but everything after my purchase was a train wreck. I applied for what I was told was going to be a Gander Mountain store card, which turned out to actually be a Mastercard. I specifically said I wanted a store card so I was lied to. I was not given a sales receipt on a $788 rifle, just a piece of paper with my order number scribbled on it. When I returned to pickup my rifle the factory 10rnd mag had been swapped for a Magpul plastic mag; not the metal Mossberg one the gun is supposed to come with. Even after pickup I was not given a sales receipt and was told I couldnt have one. They made a copy of the store order form but that in no way is a bill of sale. Sales staff is a joke. Bunch of grumpy middle aged men who look like they hate their entire life and it shows in how they talk to you. The guy who signed me up was for the credit account was bragging right in front of me to another employee that he had "x" number of credit apps that day (they get a bonus for signing people up; hence why I was lied to). Nothing like being a gun owner for several years and having some idiot treat you like a 7 year old that was just handed with first BB gun. I will be paying off my credit account and closing it asap and will give my business to Field And Stream which is 5 minutes away. I can see this location going out of business in the next 5 years because they suck that bad.

I stopped into Gander Mountain the other day to pick up multiple firearms that I had purchased. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming, even though they knew that my purchase was going to be a lot of work. I am shocked at how quickly those guys were able to team up and knock out the paperwork side of the transaction. In addition to tackling my paperwork, one staff member, Fred, took the time to price out the best ammo deal for me. I was curious about the price per round for multiple calibers. He took the time to look up multiple prices and do the math to ensure that I got the best deal for my dollar. This simple act by Fred gained my complete trust as a customer, it was apparent that he was trying to find me the best deal, not upsale me every chance he could like many associates at other retail stores. Due to these exceptional experiences, I will continue to shop at Gander Mountain for any of my hunting needs. In the end, I walked out with multiple new firearms that will forever be highly valued in my collection. The purchase was way less painful than I had expected, it could not have gone more smoothly. Thank you for the awesome job, I will certainly be back for more in the future.

I cannot speak on behalf of anyone elses experience but as for mine I would not advise anyone to buy any products from this establishment. I purchased a gun from this store that was broken out of the box, the day after I bought the firearm I brought it to the range and the firing pin in the bolt would not actuate. After bringing the gun in that day I experienced an extreme amount of grief from the sales staff and received little to no support. They did however agree the firearm was defective and was scheduled to be sent out for repair. After FOUR MONTHS of waiting I finally received a call to find that the gun was not even returned to the manufacturer and that I was required to pay $59 to repair my brand new gun. The only help the magement gave me was that they waived my "fee" and did not offer any sort of compensation for my terrible experience. Since then I have not and refuse to buy anything from this company and advise anyone else to do the same and support your smaller local gun shops, the money you pay extra will go so much further in support than you will ever receive from Gander Mountain.

I went into Gander Mountain 11/09/15 to purchase a Remington rifle. I brought my Thompson Encore .243 cal. handgun with a 15" barrel to trade. I had just left Field and Stream to accomplish the same task and wanted to get a competitive quote. The manager of the gun department looked at my gun and with a typical old school used car salesman additude said he would give me $200 for my gun and began to down play the condition of my firearm. He offered no documentation as to how he arrived at his price and literally invited me to go back to Field and Stream and purchase my new rifle. Which I did!!! The manager at Field and stream was very pleasant and professional. He went as far as to bring out the dealer guide and showed me the value of my gun in trade which was $400. He also showed me what the gun was worth if I sold the gun myself. Needless to say I will spead the word this is just the tip of the iceberg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw a lot of negative reviews for this place but.. I have to post my own experience.. The exterior needs an update. No 22lr ammo but who can blame them. They go quick everywhere! I like the layout the moment I walked in. You can easily see where the real men ahopping should start.. A clear shot to the rear where the guns an ammo are located. Easy find! I like that!! My own issue really was no reloading supplies. Plenty of clothing and targets. Nice selection of guns including handguns an ammo. The waiting to be served issues these cry babies posted about had to be experienced when there was a hihh bolume of people in the store. It was under a minute for me each time I went to look at any gun. PICK A DIFFERENT TIME TO GO!!! WTH!
