Having been here a few times over the years, I feel confident in saying that this is the worst liquor store Ive had the misfortune of patronizing. This was the closest liquor store to my house for a year, but we would consistently drive down to Chi-Lake Liquors instead. As mentioned, the "no cards" policy is hilariously out of date. Whats even more weird is that theyll take a check! I cant remember anywhere else, especially a liquor store, that will still do that. I can deal with that policy, I suppose, but this place is NOT the cheapest in town. Okay, whatever. But the service itself was atrocious - I realize these kids have to deal with some of the biggest douchebags in the city (comes with the territory in this part of town), but you shouldnt make it seem like youre doing me a favor to ring me up. Topping it off, the store itself is ridiculously packed full of cases of wine. I cant speak to their selection as Im not really a wine drinker, but its tough to even navigate the place, and lord help you if theres more than one person trying to make their way through an aisl. To be totally honest, I havent been here in at least two years because I promised myself I would never give this store another dollar of my money, so its possible things have changed.

To the owner: time for a huge makeover. Not sure who the owner is, but I was explained the first time I went in that "credit cards" are not accepted. Being the General Manager of a store myself, I check on reviews every few weeks to see what we can do better and ACT ON IT if at all possible. Seeing as there have been reviews for TWO YEARS about how much not having credit card service at this locaiton sucks, I am shocked that the owner has not taken this into consideration. Its not exactly the most MODERN consideration in the world. To top it off, the service is moderate at best. Would recommend LAKE WINE AND SPIRITS, which is like night and day, especially compared to this place. The only reason I give the quality a good is because it IS better in beer selection compared to some, such as Minnehaha Warehouse Liquors on Lake & Minnehaha.

I wouldnt normally give this place a five star rating, since their beer selection is pretty lacking, but I felt the need to give it some love considering all the hate the other reviewers have given it. Yeah, its kind of lame that they only take cash or checks, but that means they dont have the overhead needed to process credit cards and they pass the savings on to us. If you can find a cheaper, better wine selection in town, Id love to hear about it. Seriously, you can get a huge selection of really good wine here for five dollars. And while the beer selection isnt great, they still carry enough good beers to make most people happy. Best of all, all of the women who work here are super hot. Im not going to say they are overly friendly or police, but boy are they attractive so its all good.

Love it! Cash or check is sweet! All the hatters complaining they can’t use their credit or debit cards. Think about it! You need to think about the savings passed on and the fact that this place is holding its own and it is one of the only places that are standing up to the CC companies for their fees. 3-10% tacked on to every purchase for everyone because you can’t pay with cash. Get real an stop being a selfish complainer. Stop mentioning it to them at the counter too, they are aware of it and they don’t do it for a reason. Great Wine selection, I always grab a bottle on my way out through the stacks of booze. I’ve never had bad service, in fact the opposite. I’ve always had someone around I could ask a question an the checkout has always been fast and friendly.

Cheap because the workers are paid peanuts and treated like garbage. Take it from an ex-employee, the owning family makes bank while sitting on their ass and treating their employees like less than nothing. The turnover rate is two months for a reason. Dont support such a terrible business model. The owner Phil is nice to you if you are a customer who looks like they have money. He will schmooze and drink wine with you for hours in his checkout area. His son Nick is a nice guy but doesnt seem to recognize how much of his life he was handed by pure luck of being born in the right family. Me and my coworkers once had to stay 15 (UNPAID) minutes late so he could continue to sweet talk a couple into buying a bottle of whiskey.

I would gladly spend 3% more on wine/beer/liquor to save myself a trip thru the sludge and snow to get cash from the grocery store. What about all the bank fees Phils unknowing customers have to pay to get cash out of an ATM that isnt their banks? I dont care about "attitude" or attractiveness of the Henn-Lake employees, however, its unethical for a business to expect (a virtual requirement) its suppliers to work regularly on the floor in the evenings helping customers. I await the lawsuit when one of these reps gets injured in the store. Not to mention the biased service it provides Henn-Lakes customers when most the "floor staff" are actually employees of the distributors.

Terrible employees, terrible selection (compared to any chain store or Franklin Liquors a few blocks away), terrible atmosphere (boxes stacked everywhere with narrow aisles). I live about 3 blocks away and make the effort to drive/bike elsewhere even if it means adding an extra 10 minutes to a booze run. They dont take credit cards, their beer/liquor selection is awful. The other reviewers mention the wine, but honestly, how hard is it to have a good wine selection? if you have 50 different types, its hard to say you have a bad selection and i think that argument could be made for any store. Do not come here. Put them out of business so Uptown can get a good liquor store

No credit/debit cards and mediocre prices! Its 2011, what business doesnt take a visa card these days? In addition, who the heck carries around cash anymore? They have a really small sign saying cash only as you walk in that you can barely see. They advertise as having the lowest prices in Minnesota, however after I left to go to Chicago-Lake Liquor, I ended up paying about five dollars less. Another annoyance are the staff members they have standing in every aisle watching you like a hawk to make sure you dont steal anything. I understand theft from liquor stores can be high, but there are other ways to prevent it than intimidating your customers.

Highly obnoxious that they dont take plastic, and they are definitely not passing the savings on to the customer. Beer prices are on the high side. Apparently all the good-looking women got fired since Donpfeff wrote his review, because it was hipster leftovers when I went through. Ill be driving to Lake Wine & Spirts from now on.

SCREW this place. extremely rude wannabe-hipster staff (nobodys buying it, kids), awful selection & prices. if youre in the area, take your money to hums (real punx) or franklin-nicollet. they deserve it much more than this place. also, they are the only liquor store in the united states that is still accepting checks.
