WORST book store ever with idiotic and/or lying staff. Used to be good. The last two times I went are as follows: 1.I went to sit at the cafe and do some work. Almost or all of the coffee machines were broken and I could only get a refresher. I like refreshers. That would have been fine. However, for some reason they thought that running the broken coffee machines would fix them. It was extremely loud and smelled horrid. Since I really did have to get my work done, I ignored it all and stayed about 45 min before I couldnt stand it anymore. The smell was making me feel sick and the sound was giving me a migrane. I picked up my phone that I had not used, and that was at aprx.90% charge when I got there and it was dead. Great, I couldnt call my ride. I noticed everyone around me also complaining about suddenly dead devices. I went outside and to target but all in all I was stranded for three hours. 2.I went to pre-order the new Harry Potter book. I got in line and was told to go to customer service. I stood there for a good minute before the cashier decided to page the worker who was supposed to be at customer service. She was sitting down at the cafe. My name is eight letters total. After telling her how to spell each name, she still took about ten tries. Then she told me that it was impossible to pick it up in store and that there was no event. I questioned this. She said that because it was a pre order, you could not pick it up in store. Then I was sent back to the cashier to pay. I asked him if she was correct because I knew she wasnt. He said she was wrong and that I could pick it up in store but that I couldnt pay for it now. That seemed odd but I went with it. I had to pick up a friend whos bus didnt come. He told me that the event started on the 31st at 8 pm. I asked if he meant the 30th. He said that he was absolutely sure. The 31st at 8 was the date on the print out he gave me. I trusted it. It seemed like an official print out. Of course that was wrong. I dont even want to try to pick it up bc any more of this unprofessional mess and I might blow. I think Im just going to order it online.

Im kind of bummed because I usually enjoy shopping here. Its my go to location even though I live closer to the Pikesville store. My mother purchased a book light for my son; he opened it Christmas morning and discarded the packaging. He was excited to use it that evening on the way to dinner but quickly discovered that it didnt work. My mother gave us the gift receipt and went to Columbia to exchange it for the same light. The woman behind the counter said that there was nothing they could do without the packaging, even though I had the gift receipt proving that it had been purchased. She suggested I buy a new battery for it. I explained that I wasnt interested in purchasing a battery for a brand new item. She then told me to go home and take the backing off to see if the battery was properly aligned and if that didnt work I could bring it back tomorrow and they would exchange it. I still wouldnt have the packaging so what difference would it make for me to experiment with the battery? We left and went to the Pikesville location and the gentleman there exchanged it for me in less than 60 seconds. I will skip the extra miles and keep my business close to home from now on.

I love going there all the time but 50% of the time when Im ordering books through them they either get it wrong or it comes later than expected.I ordered a book through them last week and they told me 2-3 business days so I expected it Friday called them that day they told me Monday.Called them today they say tomorrow.I found the book at a local library and told B&N to hold off on it.Im upset because this has happened before and I wont be ordering through them again.

Its a good store. This B & N is a medium sized store with a Starbucks. The Selection is generally good, the clearance and bargain priced offerings are decent. The staff is pleasant, polite and helpful. They do a fairly good job of keeping the magazines spaced out for easy spotting. I gave three stars ONLY because (I just found out, to my dismay) that Wegmans gets the newest magazines in first.

I visited the store today with the intent of purchasing a book for a child. They had such a great selection and very reasonable prices that I ended up buying many books. The Starbucks Cafe is sub par as they ignored me and provided me the wrong drink. They are also less then friendly. That said; the selection of children learning material is superb. I will most certainly be back!

We took our 2 year old grandson to this, his favorite, store. He wanted to play with the wood train set, Thomas the train and his friends. We bought him a new engine to go with his set at home. The remainder of the store was big, beautiful, and stocked full of very nice books, gifts, and other media.

Theyve got wifi at 0.2 Mbps but it seems a lot slower. It was sad to see Borders in Columbia close but man what bad business decisions. The store was twice as big as it needed to be and they would close the cafe when it was full of customers. Hope B&N doesnt go the same way.

I always get a friendly greeting walking in this store. They have a coffee shop and decent WIFI. Of course they have books for sale and a pretty good selection too. Any questions will be answered by the knowledgeably staff just walk up to the service counter

As an avid reader its great to see bookstores still in business. Not a big fan of chain stores but this B & N does a good job and has an excellent selection (audiobooks a little less than what I would like to see)

A ton of high school kids here around April and May studying for exams. Beware! I loved the kids section growing up. They had frequent shows and performances for the general public.

Atmosphere is warm and inviting. Well organized layout, with plenty of help available from staff. Great selection of books. Prices are high, but not off the charts.

"Who doesnt like a bookstore? This is a nice bookstore with a lot of categories to choose from. And lets not forget about the coffee shop. Always an added bonus."

i too agree. it is nice to see people buying physical, cumbersome and flammable reading materials. i cant believe people read books on the cloud. what is that?

Its a bookstore, whats not to like? Word of warning, however: every beverage Ive ever had from their Starbucks has been absolutely vile. Bring your own coffee.
