My now-wife and I had a cake made from the Cocoa Bean for our wedding last June, and everything went well, at first. We had previously enjoyed their quiches and other assortment of goodies. The tasting went fine, and we chose our cake. The owner and proprietor was very helpful in helping us select a cake type, filling, and working with us to handle the design. There was one small issue that came up; the form that they sent us to confirm our cake type and location showed the wrong wedding venue and wrong flavor cake. My wife emailed the gal that we had been working with (one of the owners) and let her know of the mistakes. She sent a reply that she was sorry and would take care of it. Well, the cake made it to our wedding, but as we cut into the cake, we realized that it was the wrong type of cake! You can actually SEE the moment that my wife notices the issue in OUR WEDDING VIDEO DURING THE CAKE CUTTING! When you pay $800 for wedding cake, you expect a lot out of the establishment that creates it. Not only is it expensive, but this a memory that will be with you for the rest of your life. Upon speaking to the owner that we were working with, and asking for what we thought would be a fair reimbursement for such a mix-up (half of the price of the cake refunded), we were met with hostility. They actually said to us, "You ate the cake, didnt you?" UNBELIEVABLE. After arguing with her for some time, she offered a $50 check or a $100 gift card. Not sure why she thought that we would want a gift card to this place after the colossal screw up that had just occurred. We didnt think that this was a reasonable refund given the situation, and held to our original request of half the price of the cake. We explained that we understood that there was overhead, and that we wanted to support local business in our area, so half was extremely reasonable in our estimation. She told us that $400 that would be left for her would not even come close to covering the overhead. Those must be some premium ingredients! We persisted, asking to talk to the chef (also one of the owners), and did actually speak to him. He asked what it would take to make this thing go away. We again explained that we were asking for half the price of the cake. He said he would get back to us, but HUGE surprise, he never called once in the span of a week. Again, we contacted them, tried to talk to the chef, and only got the owner that we had dealt with originally. She told us that her final offer was a $285 check, and beyond that, we would have to speak to her lawyer. We thought about trying to take them to small claims court, but ultimately took the $285. Terrible way to handle an obvious screw up on their part, horrible customer service, and just a bad way to run a business in general. It seems like our experience isnt necessarily out of the ordinary at the Cocoa Bean, sadly. Bottom line, in our opinion, there are PLENTY of other places in the area that you can get a great wedding cake at that have much better customer service, and will handle problems way better than this, you dont need the hassle that comes along with this place, especially when youre dealing with a wedding, which is already stressful enough. Dont bother shopping at the Cocoa Bean

Do not buy anything from here, espeically if you are considering these people for your wedding. I ordered a cake that was supposed to be around 4 tall, with a specific suggested cake and filling. On my wedding day, the cake arrived less than half that size. When staff cut the cake to be served (in miniscule servings so as to cover everyone), I was shocked to see they had instead filled the cake with raspberry (not at all my order). And now heres where it gets bad. After the wedding, I called to complain. The OWNER told me they dont make the requested filling for cakes. When I showed our contract that clearly stated this was to be done (and had in fact been suggested by an employee), he started yelling at me. I tried calling him again, he told me he refused to apologize. I asked him that if for nothing else, he should make apologize for that fact that its his job to make sure there are no miscommunications and its his job to honor the contract. He again refused, yelling "Im not listening to you!" over and over to drown out and end any conversation. I was in tears. I never once raised my voice to him and called him "sir" through our entire phone call. My husband tried to call, at this point to ask for our money back, and he again yelled, "la la la" this time and hung up on us. We later received a call from an employee who was embarassed at overhearing his boss treat a customer with a valid complaint in such a way. There was nothing he could do, but he confided that this man is usually rude and callous, just never had he seen it done to a bride. I am still sick at how awfully I was treated. At this point, I can let the wrong cake go. Things happen when its a wedding. But I cannot forgive a man child screaming at me. Patronizing this restaurant means you condone this behavior.

I have been a customer since just after they opened about 8 or 9 years ago. EVERY experience has been superior. When one of my sons got married a few years ago and did not want a cake at our wedding reception (they had already had one in Maryland with the Brides family) I simply turned to the folks at cocoa bean and they catered with a large supply of minis instead. Everyone raved about how good the minis were and the father of the Bride said we had outdone the cake at the first reception by a country mile. Everything is always fresh, delicious, impeccable service, helpful friendly staff and a selection of pastries to die for--it doesnt get any better than Cocoa Bean. The prices are very reasonable given the quality of the desserts. They are a 7 on the 5 point scale!

Cocoa Beans has amazing desserts especially the cakes which is worth the trip to Geneva. I recommend this bakery shop for parties such as Baby Shower. My friends and I had attended a baby shower that had Isabella cake, a white chocolate passion fruit mousse raspberry creme brulee was melt in your mouth to die for cake! Now, Im the hostess for baby shower decided to order the exact same one, Isabella cake. There are also mini cakes that has unique amazing flavors that tempt you to buy each one. They also offer a small brunch menu which I have not tried. Service only rated very good because I have not actually entered inside the bakery shop, but they are polite on the phone and ready to order.

Yummiest cake Ive ever had! I found this cute place by accident and ended up using them for my wedding. (which was 6 yrs ago) Everyone was raving about how beautiful and amazing the cake was. Its a bit pricey but Im willing to pay the price for quality. I go in every once in a while just for a mini treat :) In my opinion...a lovely place. Its really too bad to hear that some people had a bad experience (especially with the owner). I personally thought he was great (for our wedding) but then again that was 6 yrs ago...hopefully no one else has a bad experience there cuz this place is different then most and Id hate to see it fold. Anyway...best cake Ive ever had :) peace.
