I am currently looking for a new puppy and stopped in this store a few times to check out different breeds and possibly purchase a puppy. I do not believe in making rash decisions when bringing home a puppy so after falling in love with one I was still able to walk out to do a little reading on the breed and the store. On my first visit my attention was completely on the puppies, however when I returned for a second look I noticed a few things that didnt sit well with me. The girl who handed me the puppy seemed to handle the pup in a very brutal way and did not seem very interested in making a sale, instead she informed me that the price of the pup was actually 200 dollars more than the marked price because of a fee for a health warranty and microchip activation fee because "they cant remove the chip" which seemed odd, why not just up the price 200 dollars and call these add-ons free or included in the price. In addition the puppy I was interested in had become nippy and was chewing on hands. I left that day without a puppy and went home to do more research and look for other options to find a puppy from a breeder. Unfortunately, the closest breeder is about 3 hours away. After about a week of searching and researching common issues with pet store puppies I decided to go back to the store to see if they had gotten a new puppy of the breed in. As I walked through the store I began to notice little details that were very discouraging, new green signs on the cages that stated particular dogs would only be brought out for "serious buyers." Now I stared at the pup through the glass and noticed that some of the dogs looked down right depressed. During these important stages in their development they are left in a cage, with nothing but a water bottle and now no play time until a "serious buyer" comes along. I left without a puppy. As I left I decided to drive a bit further to Hoffman Estates, to the only competing pet store that I knew of. The minute I walked in the atmosphere was awesome. I looked at the pups in there cages and found something I had never seen at happiness is pets, these puppies were playing. Every cage had toys, which are important for a puppy whose teeth are coming in. I searched and found that they did not have the breed my heart is set on. :( I was walking away from the area when one of the employees approached me. I declined help because they didnt have my breed. The next thing that happened shocked me to no end the sales girl said "would you like to play with something else, we like to get the puppies out to socialize them." She then explained that although they didnt have a pup for me they could call me if one did come in and offered to allow my current dog to come meet a few of the puppies to see which one she likes. Just twenty minutes before, I was ready to give up on pet stores forever but that place redeemed the whole situation. Im not saying that the puppies from happiness wont be good pets or may even be healthy but for the price of a purebred I want more, I want to be sure that what I am getting was treated well. My whole life I have had rescue dogs who were abused if I am looking for that I will go to CACC to adopt, however in this case Im looking for a new puppy with a fresh start. You can trust that I did not find that at Happiness is Pets.

I should start by saying that I absolutely love my dog. This is not his fault. Last May I was told my baby had no heartbeat. My world was flipped upside down. That same day my husband and I went on a walk to try to cope. We saw a baby goldendoodle. I fell in love. I was so depressed and all I wanted to do was find this puppy somewhere and be a puppy mom to it. I did s ton of research and was determined to find a breeder. Most of the breeders had long waiting lists or the puppys still needed weeks or werent born yet. I was going through so much emotionally that I decided I would go to the pet store and buy one. I called multiple Happiness is Pets stores. I asked if they had what I was looking for. I was very specific. I wanted a standard F1. 1/2 golden retriever 1/2 poodle. The Arlington heights store assured me they had one. So I took the trip out there. I knew what I was looking for and as I walked through, I didnt see one. So I said, I called and I was told there was an F1. The girl handed me my dog. He was cute as a button... But I said "this doesnt look like an F1." She assured me it was... When I was checking out, I looked over the paperwork(which looked kind of fake to begin with) and notice it said father- standard poodle Mother-golden. I was suspicious... Did they just delete the world doodle quickly? Shouldnt it say golden retriever? I also googled the breeder and found out it was a puppy mill!!!! Terrible things were found about this "breeder." Basically, I paid almost $2,000 for an F1b... And they knew what they were doing. I specifically said I wanted an F1. When you are spending that much money, you should receive honest service. I wouldnt trade mine in, but when I see other F1s, I do get a bit upset. Your company is not honest! You charged me a lot of money for something that I didnt ask for.

Ive honestly never encountered an employee so rude before. My daughter and I have been looking for a puppy for our new apartment for awhile now and we havent found anything we really like. We been to this store before but they never have more than 5 puppies there. Well today we went in there and pretty much every cage was full. Which was awesome. So as we are looking the employees are standing there looking like they hate there jobs. They disappear in the back for a good 20 mins as we wait around to take a dog out we finally get a girls attention. I ask her to take out a dog and she goes well we dont take out dogs unless your planning on buying them today. Im standing there like i just asked you a bunch of questions about the payment process and everything obviously Id be interested in buying today if i liked the puppy. I tell her it all depends on how my daughter interacts with the puppy and this rude younger employee goes well you been here before you clearly know how she interacts with the puppies and there are other places you can go play with puppies. I was so blown away. I grabbed my daughter and left. I was not about to drop $2,000 bucks on a puppy that i wasnt 100% sure me and my daughter loved. Obviously every puppy is different. You need to interact with them to see how they are. They have completely lost my business I will never return nor buy a puppy from a happiness is puppies. Get some employees who actually like their jobs. And this girl was the same girl who last time we were their she had her friends in there playing with the puppies. I tried finding a corporate number or something so i could talk to someone but couldnt find anything.
