The store seemed unkempt, understaffed and generally uncaring. I was in the aquaria section for about 20 minutes where I was not asked once if I needed help. The girl who was there was busy badmouthing the fish purchase orders (to a trainee?) instead of helping me or the two other customers who came and left in frustration. Plants placed in the fish tanks for show were in various states of rot. Plants clearly meant for terrariums were labelled for sale as fully aquatic. I saw overstuffed bags of fish lying on countertops or in the plants-only tanks unattended. Several fish tanks were disturbingly overcrowded, to the point where a normal person would know that this is not healthy and that the fish would eventually die from illness. I cant fully express the extent to which this store creeped me out. The Petsmart close by is a rung or two better than the Petco, but the best choice Ive found nearby is actually Optimum Aquarium.

I recently decided to start up an aquarium, and I really didnt have a lot of prior knowledge other than some information gleaned from the internet. However, my dad and I decided to start by buying a few fish from this Petco. We were immediately met by Mike, one of the managers, and he went above and beyond in giving advice and explaining every question we had. You could absolutely tell he cared about his job as well as the fish. Furthermore, he was friendly, polite, and obviously knowledgeable. In fact, he made sure that his advice was not centered around making quick money off of us, and instead, he conveyed exactly how to set up a new aquarium in the most correct manner possible. His interest was centered on not only the customer but also the care of the fish. This is exactly how business should be done, and they certainly have repeat customers in us.

Avoid their grooming department. To begin with, the lady drug my dog behind the counter by a slip leash around his neck. I know this is probably how they train, but that is unsafe for an animal and definitely not something to show a customer. After receiving my dog, it looked like he received NO haircut at all. What did I pay for, a three hour daycare? Lastly, after examining my dogs nails, ALL were damaged. Two were cracked so bad he would jerk away when you touched them. The others were filed so terribly there was blood showing under them.

Walked into the store with my granddaughter this afternoon. She loves to visit the animals. The store smelled awful!!! Like the cages and the litter boxes had not been changed for days. I approached one if the employees, who told me :well, you ARE in pet store! Well, sorry fellow. But it doesnt have to smell like urine so bad your eyes sting! We went to the back of the store to see the fish and when we left the store, it smelled like they sprayed some febreze . I think cleaning the litter boxes would have been a better idea.
