As Loyal, Jo-Ann customers, my (4) daughters and I shop at this West Melbourne Jo-Ann an average of 3x per week.....and, frankly, were quite puzzled at some of these SCATHING reviews!? Our family are varying levels of artists; cake decorators, painters, seamstresses, crochet/knitters, crafters-of-all-kinds...and theres not a section of Jo-Ann we HAVENT shopped....but NEVER have we had anything but Kind, Friendly and Helpful staff - both young and old - go "Out-of-their-Way" to assist us whenever were in need of help! In regard to the "Quality of Fabrics"? Personally, I head straight for the Clearance section and I must say, Ive found some beautiful, intricate, paisley brocades for reupholstering our dining room chairs - Needless-to-say, a generously weighted fabric as well - Absolutely NOTHING "Cheap" or "Shop Stamped/Woven" about these gorgeous fabrics, nor any of the other fabrics or YARN weve hunted and gathered over the years - Very Rich Indeed! "Yes", there are times when they are training new staff....but its usually pretty clear whos "new" - Common sense dictates, "If you dont want to be waited-on by that person, then WAIT and let the person behind you go ahead of you!" (Theyll think youre just the Nicest Person In-the-World AND you get the cashier YOU WANT!) Its a Win-Win! =) *Dont Forget, Jo-Ann is also one of our Beloved Favorites because they take COMPETITORS COUPONS! (M*chaels, H*ncock, H*bby L*bby, AC M*ore) - We LOVE YOU & Thank You, Thank You, Jo-Ann, West Melbourne & Keep Up ALL the GREAT WORK, Liz, Fritz, Thomas, etc., etc., etc., you-know-who-you-are! ;) <3

Gaga will now give her unbiased opinion so that others in our little community might benefit from the truth: Indeed, its sad for those of us who are seriously inspired and original, especially in terms of costume creation: At JoAnns the fabric is not just terribly overpriced. Sadly for the consumer, the QUALITY of the fabric that JoAnns sells is seriously below par. One half mile up the street from JoAnns theres a quilt store that also sells overpriced fabric...but I never mind paying their inflated prices because the quality of the quilt shops fabric is simply top-notch, heavy and rich to the touch, with prints to die for! Compare that little shop to JoAnns where the fabric is thin, shoddy, smells bad (really! I had to hold my nose after the last purchase) and the prints are...well...TACKY. And I agree with you, Scott and May 13 Anonymous: in order to even be able to purchase the fabric, you must first deal with their clerks, no laughing matter! Unkind, uninspired, snobby...one even raised her eyebrows at me! I was mortified! Perhaps if the manager wanted to increase the stores sales he or she or it might consider hosting some classes for their personnel on building good customer/employee relationships and proper sales technique. Theyve got some cute things in the store and a great selection of McCalls, Simplicity type patterns and other notions but its always a drag to have to go in to buy them! Gaga Has Spoken!!!

I stood in check out for 25 minutes, at one point the line was 16 deep. During my wait they had two clerks at the register, what appeared to be a manager flittering around doing I dont know what... but it wasnt helping the back-up at the register! A third girl who was apparently due to clock in in 20 minutes was arguing with another clerk at one point, that she could clock in now and help, but was told she couldnt. I finally put my unopen box of velcro on the counter and am told that I have to go back and wait in line to have it messured. I explained that its a box of 15 ft of velcro and I need all 15 ft. She said that I still need to go have it measured even though the box was marked 15 ft and was unopened.....no, I didnt see any signage requiring this item to be measured..it was just in an isle with a dozen other boxes of unopened velcro. Since I dont get paid to purchase velcro by the hour, I just left it with the cashier. I knew I should have ordered this online...

I have been to other Jo-Ann Fabric stores (Gainesville, Orlando) and this on is the worst! I was stunned by how messy it is. Fabric is very much a mess, even on the floor! For a store this size, there are not nearly enough employees to help customers or keep the store neat. The prices are too high for the low to mid quality of the fabric. If I need quilting or basic fabrics, I will go to Hobby Lobby in Viera or Hancock on Merritt Island. Or it may be worth the drive to go to the Jo-Ann in Waterford Lakes. I suggest they hire one dedicated person to help customers with guidance on projects and one or two more to keep the store neat. The other employees could use some help with being friendly and efficient at the cutting table. One more thing... I dont like how their coupons are for non-sale items only and almost everything goes on "sale" during the coupon dates. This store has potential - just needs some work.

Besides everything being very overpriced and the rude and slow staff, which I have also experienced, my worst complaint is their restroom. I visited this yesterday and I have to say it is one of the dirtiest bathrooms I have ever seen in a store. I dont think the floor EVER saw a mop and it was just overall filthy!!! I dont understand how they can get away with such an unhealthy atmosphere. Since it was early on a Monday morning, I dont think it can be blamed on a busy day or week for that matter. The sinks werent too bad but the floor and the toilets and stalls had "stuff" all over them, including blood. I wonder about the employees using these restrooms and then working with the pubic. I never write reviews, but I just had to on this one because I was so upset. Just AWFUL!!!!!

The fabric has outpriced even local quilt stores but is thinner with patterns that are clearly designed to be cheap to print - little detail and limited shallow coloring. The clerks at this store are more interested in chatting with each other and get very annoyed if you ask where something is. On my last trip I walked out without my fabric when the two clerks were just standing around at the cutting table chatting even though there were 3 of us waiting for fabric to be cut. They got annoyed when we asked if we could get fabric cut. I told the manager why I was leaving and that there were several people still waiting for cutting - she said Ill deal with it and then went back to putting things on a shelf. Clearly she had no intention of dealing with it.

I love Jo-Ann Fabrics. I have been to Jo-Ann stores all over the country and I have to say I was shocked at the condition of this store. The WORST fabric store I have ever been to. There were plenty of employees due to the holidays, so it wasnt a staffing problem. Fabric was scattered everywhere, even floors. It was disorganized and hard to find what you were looking for. The check-out clerk wanted to argue about a discount with me. I dropped the issue, paid my bill and resolved to BUY FABRIC ONLINE. Does corporate even read these comments????
