Just moved to Long Beach from Austin, Texas. Loved that this Ralphs was just a couple of blocks down the street. Have made it my go-to store for the past few weeks. Unfortunately NO MORE. With my bank card number being breached I found myself in the position of having to withdraw cash while the bank is actually open and augmenting that with the old-school version of payment: checks. While is is extremely inconvenient to me (thanks cyber-crime) all other vendors have been able to accommodate the need. Fortunately my bank is Wells Fargo - not some random local/regional bank in Texas. So... having had this precedent set while I await the delivery of a new debit/bank card, I shopped my way through Ralphs purchasing the basics of my weekly grocery needs. Arrived at the check out. Handed cashier $50 in cash and proceeded to write a check for the balance. DENIED. Out of State? Out of Luck at Ralphs. Do I have a Ralphs membership card: YES. Have I shopped there every few days for the past 5-6 weeks: YES. Was I trying to write a check for cash: NO. I was shopping for basic groceries. Paying for most of the expense in cash and asking to write a check for the balance. NO. Not an option. My five year old daughter stood there asking me why they wouldnt let us pay for our groceries. I told her: I dont know. They did offer to "suspend" the transaction and let me stand there in front of a bunch of other customers and pick through my selected groceries to decide which items I could "afford" to pay for with my $50 in cash. I told them that I was really horrified that this was happening and couldnt even imagine HOW I could do that. Instead, took my business to Vons and had a much more accommodating experience. Ralphs: You just lost my $250 per week in grocery business. Just so youre tracking this. Thats $13K a year. Gone. Hope it was worth it.

I have shopped at this store since about 1998 and the remodel it was a model of how to treat the customer. Although small as it wasnt originally a Ralphs they seemed to carry most if not all of what I needed. The manager Steve and all the employees were what made it a pleasant experience. Then the remodel and many of the employees were shifted to other stores. The Ralphs nearby on Anaheim closed and some of those employees transferred in. What a difference! Too often they are in the middle of stocking at 11am and too often they are out of the items which they used to carry. The parking lot was downsized making it difficult to maneuver into the tight spaces. One morning a friend visited to buy pasta salad but was told it would not be available until after 10am. So much for grabbing a quick item for lunch on way to work. I now drive to the Traffic Circle Ralphs because I want choices and I need the everyday items I use to be in stock with having to step over boxes at mid morning.

this ralphs is really different compared to the other stores in the surrounding area, they have a good selection of organic produce and the sushi bar is pretty good, a bit pricey but sastifying to say the least. free friday downloads are a hit and miss every week, sometimes they have good freebies like artisan bread and juice and the next week its like a chocolate bar. only gripe i have with this store is that the parking is the worst, so try walking here instead. and try to stay away from entering from the back area of the store, people leave the parking lot like if they nascar racers and that old guy that runs the back area of the store is always cat calling women and hits on my wife a lot ... creepy haha, so just enter from the front.

Very nice organized and clean... also lots of checkers including quite a few self-checking stations. Only problem is that the prices are generally quite high. I recently tried Amazon Fresh and I found it difficult to buy many things since I would notice that it was 10 or 20% cheaper to have it delivered. Also lately they have had a security guard and a "no backpacks" sign which often makes me think twice about using a store. I do know from experience that over 90% of their losses go to employees or other insiders so I dont like seeing them try to oppress a few poor people in the name of "profits" which is exactly what is going on. Average mark-ups are in the 300% range or higher.

So tired of going into this store and having to share the space with people walking their dogs, or others walking their bikes up and down the aisle. Arent there health laws about animals? Its pretty clear that most these people are just jerks who think their dog is human. And I know there are bike racks out front. Ive ridden there many times myself. It seems they are too scared to lose a customer if they tell them to leave the dog or bike outside. I know they arent busy cleaning the bathrooms, because they are disgusting. It would be nice if Ralphs had some oversight to address these problems. This store is very close to me, but I avoid it when I can.

This is my neighborhood grocery store within walking distance from where I stay. They have good deals late at night. In very back youll find bread and pastries are discounted to the point that theyre almost free. I buy ripened fruits & veggies cause they are usually bland, hard & over priced if found on the produce shelves. Friendly workers. Clean store. Try the broccoli salad from deli. If it doesnt suit your palette you can opt for their soup and salad bar. This Ralphs is a step up from the basic grocery stores. Open past midnight if you need to grab last minute "party supplies".

After the last strike, I stopped shopping in grocery stores and found Whole Foods and TJs. Then, out of convenience and an appreciation for their produce, I started shopping at Gelsons but cringed at their prices. Recently, I started shopping at Ralphs on 4th Street in Long Beach on my way from work. I have been very very happy with the friendly, personable atmosphere. The produce and fish always look fresh and I get good guidance from their seasoned employees. It would be too bad to be forced to return to Whole Foods.

Big things come in little packages and boy dose this store look small on the outside but inside its big, it has everything from organic to non organic to dairy and non dairy to low fat Etc..., Im just really impressed with all the selection this store has to offers for the community and it self. I love all the verity of everything And its isolated in a little community, this store is a one stop shop spot. My shopping experience here is always grate even the employees are so helpfull and they always put customers first.

My favorite neighborhood grocery store, Period! Theres this Long Beach phenomena that folks dont talk about much, but its influence is palpable, thrilling, and drenched in bliss. People sayin its a community thing, but it starts at our "everyday places" like grocery stores. Ralphs 4th Street is a perfect example of the coffee shop hug-fest that gave Trader Joes its leg up. But no matter how you dice it, this particular Ralphs is just about perfect!
