I searched high and low for companies that distribute Linux/Ubuntu out of the box, so done with Microsoft and Apple. I found system76 and to add to it they FINANCE! I ordered the Gazelle and credit was approved same day at an interest rate far lower than retail credit. Their site says it takes 5 to 6 days to build, and 5-10 days to ship via UPS, signature confirmation included. I ordered Sunday, it shipped Monday and arrived the following Friday. (!!) I opened a plain white box to a cartoons on the inside with rockets and stars and an inner package that read "Wait! Dont cut it, its reusable." No non-recyclable packing, just plain common sense. In the bottom of the box were the words, "what will YOU make?" On startup something went wrong with the config and I called support, after regular posted hours, and expected to have to wait all weekend or be on hold for the usual time (you know, until you turn to dust.) The Tech support woman answered in five rings and I nearly fainted. :-) She knew what she was talking about and walked me through a reboot and reconfig, and off I went. This machine is blazing fast and installed all my web development tools (LAMP, Netbeans, GIT etc) without hardly a hitch. Ubuntu has a lot to do with that but LOVE this lappy. Cant wait to pay it off and get a Meerkat next. The computing monopolies could really learn a lot from System76, their company philosophies, the attention they give to their work, and support just like its supposed to be. #freecomputing forever!

I recently purchased the Oryx Pro from System 76. The build quality is very high, it seems like many people were concerned with their keyboards, but the keyboard on the Oryx is very pleasant to type on, Im not sure how old those reviews are but I love the keyboard on it. I put Arch Linux on mine and did not use the Ubuntu installation but the function keys all work out of the box, something that makes getting a made-for Linux laptop worth it and makes their product more than just a rebranded keyboard. The case is sturdy and the hardware has plenty of upgrade options for going into the future, an issue I had with my previous laptop from ThinkPenguin was that after a year the hardware was out of date and I could not get past 16G RAM but with up to 64GB on the Oryx and more storage than you can shake a stick at, I dont forsee the same problems coming up. This laptop will last me years to come. The staff is top knotch, I had a very specific question regarding which video card I should purchase and they were quick to answer with a better answer than I could find wading through google. Quick, to the point, and smart. All my dealings with them is that they have been incredibly friendly and on point. You cant go wrong with a laptop from here, especially if Linux is your thing. Give em a try!

Terrible computers. The galago ultra pro was a complete dud. Broken keyboard out of the box, cheap plastic case, no support for software updates, and completely unuseable in 2 years even though it cost +$1200. All this company does is install linux on Chinese lemons (Clevo). Buy the Dell XPS Ubuntu instead or get a Mac. Response to their response: The ethernet port lock broke from normal usage. The corner of laptop shattered from a 3 ft fall in a padded backpack. Its cheap plastic. A normal update from Ubuntu 14.4 LTS erased all thermal controls in my laptop. I couldnt install a new Ubuntu image because the BIOs doesnt work. You dont support updates. I recommend that potential buyers get a commercial grade linux instead like Redhat. This laptop died on me in the middle of the school semester. Took all my data with it. And forced me to delay graduation. Dont let it happen to you.

Ordered an Oryx Pro laptop in July 2016 because I needed a Linux machine with a CUDA-compliant NVIDIA GPU. Worked fine at first with CUDA 7.5, but when I needed to upgrade to CUDA 8 all hell broke loose. I got stuck in an infinite login loop which required disabling the update to fix. Never had this problem on AWS GPU instances that run Ubuntu. Contacted System76 customer service to return the machine; the first service agent said no problem and started processing my return, then another agent piped up and said I couldnt return it, even though the company boasts that they have a 1-year warranty. Fraudulent company, theyll take your money and not honor their promises or warranties.

I had been researching Linux system manufacturers for a while. I have been using Ubuntu for quite a while, and RedHat and its variants even longer before that. I decided to give System76 a try for a system upgrade, to one of their Oryx Pro systems, and I couldnt be happier! Their laptop has fully replaced my older server-grade desktop, and has been running without issues since I got it. I have been so impressed by their product quality and technical expertise that I have purchased two more of their systems, a Kudu laptop for use as a digital music mastering system, and a Meerkat as a replacement for our media PC. I have no doubt that theyll perform at least as well as the Oryx!

I bought my Gazelle about a year ago and I must say its the best experience Ive had in a laptop with Ubuntu. Its smooth, even running a virtual machine, no errors and no hardware problems or incompatibilities at all. Its really nice to have an Ubuntu laptop that works out of the box and has great support from the manufacturer. You really perceive they care about the product and the customer. The only detail I recommend they improve its the quality of the keyboard, it works fine but for gaming is a little lacky. Everything else about the system is great. Thanks a lot caring about your products and customers.

Overall a good machine and his experience. A couple of minor things made it a less than perfect experience, but nothing that would prevent me from recommending them to others looking for a good computer vendor. Communication re: backorder status could have been better, and feedback was directly given to customer service regarding that. Also wish Id known a refresh was coming on the model laptop I ordered, as I would have delayed my order for a backlit keyboard.

Awesome company, beyond having the high end computers and parts, they have amazing customer support. They do the best they can to help me when I ask, and answer my questions quickly. Ive had my laptop for 3 years now, and I will not go to any other company. I recommend System 76 to everyone I know thats looking for a good computer and a good company to buy from. I only wish I could give more stars than the 5 star limit.

More than 4 years since purchase and my Gazelle Pro laptop has been fast and flawless. I use it mainly as a desktop replacement. I did swap the original SATA drive for an SSD, installed 16GB RAM, and upgraded to an 867 mbps wireless card. The only downsides are that its a little large for use on a plane and the battery life is not stellar. Just ordered a Galago Pro for its portability. Highly recommended.
