A few years ago I had this really old external hard drive that contained ALL my music. (Mainly very hard to find with no list to try to replace it all should something happen). Something did. My house was robbed. All my old crappy useless but useable computers were stolen along with my punk leather jacket, every family heirloom worth anything and all my clothes, boots (Im a girl in a size mens size 3 shoe size) and well, if you understand anything about that stuff, youll shed a tear or two knowing it ripped out my heart to lose such sentimentally valuable stuff. My house was turned upside down and oh....the kicker....they got me in a 2 hour window on Christmas Eve night when I was just up the street having Christmas dinner with my family. Long story short, I was able to dig out my old hard drive with my music on it. All that was left. However it was configured to be used with a Mac which I couldnt afford to replace. I finally had a friend try to use it with his Mac and he said the hard drive appeared empty. 500GB empty. Maybe it was stored with a really big magnet? I was once again shattered. My roots, memories, soul...gone. Finally I took it to these guys. They worked and worked and it kept coming up empty. Finally they called and said they could offer one last ditch effort and totally destroy the casing, tear it open and rip it to shreds essentially turning it into a useless twisted piece of tech trash (which if my music wasnt on it than its what it was to me anyway), I said do it. I expected a call saying it was no use. And after a few days forgot about it entirely since I figured it was a lost cause. The phone rang and they told me they were able to retrieve every single file (all my music....all of it)! I dont even think they charged me more than like $60. To be honest I would have given my first born to have it back, so I dont remember what it cost but it was definitely reasonable! These guys are amazing! They worked and worked at it from every angle, kept me totally informed the whole time, got my permission for everything they tried and within less than 2 weeks, they dove into the heart of the dinosaur of a hard drive and found every file it had hidden somewhere after appearing blank from each angle! They knew what it meant to me, what Id been through, and they got it out and onto a new hard drive for me. I am eternally grateful. I just took in my elderly father with dementia. I took his 2 hard drives, (one from an old Mac, an external one), and his 2013 MacBook Air. I just dropped it all off to have them collaborate all my dads stuff to be as user friendly and easily found within one machine. Im sure theyll help my dad with organizing his disorganization in his progressively confused state and Ill jump right back on here to write a follow up review. I cant thank these guys enough! After the Mac Outlet charged my dad (on a walker who couldnt understand) $98 for a simple diagnostic to tell him his computer was trash because it was filthy inside, we wont be going anywhere else but here.

As several of these other reviewers have suggested, please please please do your homework before you buy anything from Action Computers. The CPU in my computer burned out recently, so I was doing some shopping around and found that the replacement I needed was going to take a couple of weeks to order online. I called Action and was told they had my CPU in stock. It was more expensive than I would have payed at NewEgg or anywhere else online, but I wouldnt have to wait two weeks to get it, so I went in. The first thing to catch my eye was a Dell Latitude C640, on sale for *** $675 ***. Some of you may not recognize this as the farce it is, but the C640 is a 5- to 6-year-old laptop; the technology in this laptop is considered positively ancient by todays standards. For perspective, I just helped a friend buy a brand new laptop at Microcenter for $450 - a machine that is orders of magnitude faster than this old hunk of junk. The C640 was a ~$150 computer (if that) for sale for nearly $700, and there were several other machines in the store for sale on similar markups. Anyway, being in a pinch I bought the CPU and a CoolerMaster heatsink and cooling fan and took it home. I never noticed until after I had installed the CPU that the cooling fan was actually an OEM Intel (read: cheap-o) fan that had had a barcode pasted over the Intel logo, thrown into a CoolerMaster box, and put out on the shelf. This place might be good for someone who knows what theyre doing and is in a tight spot, but BUYER BEWARE. And for the love of Mike, do not buy your computers here!!

First off, let me assure you I am not a disgruntled former employee. I am a real paying customer who agrees with the others who have complaints about the hard sell and poor customer service/repair. When I took in my laptop and it was confirmed that it was probably not cost effective to repair, the Action guy wanted me to give it to them(no discount offered on another one). Started hard selling me on an old laptop, which I bought, only to find out this same model available MANY places for hundreds of dollars less. When I had suggested to the guy that I wanted to compare prices, he seemed offended and assured me I would never find a better deal. Shame on me. Ive had nothing but trouble with the laptop--it just randomly shuts down and, even though it was SUPPOSEDLY completely examined and refurbished before I bought it, now they cant seem to figure out whats wrong. The biggest problem is no refunds-store credit only-so you are forced to buy more crap stuff from them. I think if they cant fix something that was supposedly in great condition when you purchased it from them, they need to be offering a refund. Dont EVER go in the place. I was referred by MicroCenter, of all places, and I wish I would have trusted my instincts when I drove up to the place. Its a rundown place in a rundown strip mall. So, regardless of the owners protests that hes being unfairly attacked by a former employee, read ALL the reviews. Many of them are from authentic, real, dissatisfied (former) customers. Stay away.

Avoid this place at ALL costs!! They will rip off you, your computer, and your time. I brought my computer in for a diagnosis, for the sole reason that I called and they said they could do it by mid afternoon. I was very specific with my problem and very up front about my timeframe and that my computer was my office. By 6:00 PM, 4 hours after they said it would be done, they had checked everything else on it except for the reason I brought it in. They explained it would take another day and the only way to do my "hardware test" on my problem was to try other components, and if none of them worked, "that would only leave one thing". Hardly a "hardware test", not to mention, I had already done everything they said they would check and no one ever thought to tell me thats all they would do!!! So after losing all day of work, expecting to at least know what was wrong with my computer, I had to pick it up with absolutely no resolution. On top of that, my $40 SD card that I use for a HD camera was taken out of the computer and taken from me. Obviously, like any thief would say, their response was "we didnt touch it". This place will tell you anything to get your computer and money. Then they will miss your timeframe and take parts off your computer. Worst service experience Ive had EVER. Your better off taking your computer to the dumpster, at least you wont waste your time that way and youll know what to expect.
