The first time I went to the store I actually got wonderful help from a younger, clean-shaven guy whose name I cant remember. If everyone else there was like him theyd ear five stars. Unfortunately, they arent, and the customer service on my second visit was so off-putting that I went out of my way to figure out how to post this bad review. I needed to get some PVC that I bought there cut into pieces, which I figured should be no big deal concidering how easy it is to do and that my "local friendly hardware store" would appreciate my business. Whats more, I like to supprt such stores, and I figured theyd make up for being over-priced by providing excellent customer service. But this was not the case: they didnt seem to take me seriously, tried to get out of it, and then grudgingly helped after I insisted. They were only willing to make four cuts (which took all of two minutes), after which I left because they clearly did not want me in their store. Im on a tight budget and dont own a saw, but still need to make some more cuts, so I will be taking the bus accross town to Home Depot to get it and everything else I need to finish what Im doing.

First of all, this is a small store. If youre looking for something very common, youll probably find it. If its something in the hardware category, but a little more unique, there might be a single item hidden somewhere. Prices are alright for most things. By alright, I mean its competitive with online stores when you factor in shipping. Ive never seen anything there that seemed like a good deal. Of the 4-5 times Ive been there, the customer service has ranged from average to downright terrible. The last time I was there, the two employees and one manager sat around talking at the front desk while I searched the store for an obscure and hidden item, then grudgingly helped me when I asked. Even then, the manager himself was not courteous. I found this review place when I was looking for other hardware stores in the area - and for good reason.

As the other reviewer notes, the price is fine for the convenience. Definitely not as cheap as a big box store, but you dont have to drive out of your way if you live near the UW. Customer service on the other hand... suffice to say that the employee I talked to was surly to the point of being insulting and generally unhelpful. Let me put it this way... it was so unsatisfactory that I took the time to come online and find this page so I could place a review, something Ive never done for a store. All the other retailers Ive been to have hired employees who can at least be civil.

Im sorry everyone else had an awful experience there, but Ive been there about six times and didnt have a single issue. I remodel houses on the side and these guys definitely know what theyre talking about. Theyre also really friendly - I took back a couple of light bulbs that were DOA and they didnt even ask for a receipt. They also offered to test the new bulbs that I bought so I wouldnt have to make a another trip! Great selection for such a small store, and top-notch service.

I shop here frequently. The staff is always friendly and they almost always have what I want.....at reasonable prices. Yesterday, I brought in an expensive heavy-duty stapler that had gotten jammed because we used the wrong size staples. The sales person at the front desk spent about ten minutes taking it apart and fishing out the jammed staples. "No charge," he said when I offered to pay him. "Happy to help."

I dont normally write reveiws, but I see all the bad ones this place got and I just wanted to chime in. I live close so I stop in here whenever I am wondering how to fix something and these guys are extreemly knowlegable and almost always have what I need. That is all.

For a quick local stop in the heart of U District this is a great place. They have a strong selection of typical hardware store items. If you need specialty or wider selection, best pricing, etc... youre better set heading to a larger box store.

I found Siam (garden guy) to be very helpful over the phone and in the store. This was the best hardware customer service Ive received (and I have such low expectations of hardware stores in general)

I go here almost every week. I am the House Manager for a UW fraternity, and the service and selection are excellent. A bit pricy, but a price worth paying for the service and expertise.

The staff really know their stuff and were quite helpful as I found what I needed. It would have been nice if they could cut the lumber they sold to the size we needed though.

A small store, but packed with everything you might need from a hardware store. The staff are all knowledgeable and courteous as Id expect from a True Value location.

The staff are rude and unhelpful; one guy I asked a question acted like I was bothering him. Ill just take the hint and stay away from this place next time.

Small selection, and the service staff was arguing and yelling at a customer the last time I walked in. Awkward!

This place will bail you out when things go astray. Staff has been helpful in my experience when asked nicely.

Friendly staff that are willing to help confused college students.
