I have gone to total wine and more in Claymont, DE now for over 5 years- I sent everyone here and it used to be one of my favorite gift shopping stops. There is no where for miles where one can get the width, breath and range of Chateau Neuf de Pape- They had an excellent selection this year. The wine advisors are always the best and know their wines-. This place used to make Christmas gift shopping bearable. Ill stand in the isle and read up on my wine choices and then a wine adviser would come along and help me settle on my final pick; that was until this year. I walked up to the middle like I usually do; where they have cheese and wine tasting set up. They also have a computer where I ask them to make small printouts of the wines history and recommendations. I would glue these on little cards and put them in a ring that I will hang the neck of the wine bottles. I walked up to this lady and she was talking to other customers so I waited, and waited, looks like the customers wanted something thats sold in Connecticut or another state and she -the wine adviser/store assistant - was making recommendations. The customers tried to walk away and she continued the discussion, forcing them to take a step back to listen to her. Then I walked up to her and said hello- no response. Then I asked politely if she would make two printouts for my wine bottles- I said its the same wine and year so you only need to scan one bottle- silence She makes one print out and handed it to me- Silently So I asked again if I may have another one- and held the two bottles up-! she makes another print out and handed it to me- silently- I turned to walk away and turned back and said to her- my, arent you a barrel of professionalism- She whispers, I have laryngitis and cant talk- I said, I just walked up to you while you were chatting and laughing with the nice "white couple" ahead of me about them getting something in Connecticut that they could not find in this store- but you have laryngitis and cant talk to me? She replies, I have laryngitis and can barely talk- I replied, laryngitis huh? Sure you do and walked away. But this woman took something away from me. This womans thinking lead 6 million Jews to the gas chambers and causes African American babies and men to get killed in the US every day. This womans thinking also let their killers go home to their families and leave black families to mourn the loss of their children. This level is emboldened racism should not exist and should most definitely not see the light of day. And I should not be contributing to her pay check and providing her with a life of satisfaction- So- I will not be going back to this store.

I usually love visiting this store. But... Went to Total Wines to buy Christmas booze today. It was a mad house. Was on a very specific mission for 4 items, one of which was 750ml of Jamesons. There was none on the shelf. The place is a MASSIVE warehouse.. I asked an employee, who was in the whiskey isle .. specifically asked him twice if there were anymore 750 ml bottles of Jamesons. He never answered the question. Instead, he asked me "why I would want to buy that, do I hate the recipient?" (Was not being cheeky, cheerful or helpful. Just trying to be a steamroller masogonist, speaking down at me) ... Then TOLD me I would be doing myself a favor if I bought Kavanagh instead. Again, I asked the Total Wines employee: do you have any more 750ml bottles of jamesons? Answer. "trust me, this is better, youll be doing yourself a favor" Since Im not familiar with the nuances of Irish whiskey, I asked around... and, Ive already been given the official word from the Starr F&B guru that Kavanagh is the same as Jamesons the same way Ranch Dressing is the same as a Commodore 64. So.... If you feel the need to be told lies and steamrolled, head on down to Total Wines!

I have to agree with the previous review that the customer service at this store is quite bad. We interacted with probably 7 different people and only two were helpful and friendly. The rest were difficult, rude, flippant and in several cases flat out lied to us. We purchased over 1200$ of alcohol for a wedding - you might think that would entitle you to at least be treated decently, but not so here. We ordered several cases of wine after this purchase and were never notified about them. When we contacted we were told unless we could remember the exact type of wine they couldnt even look up our order (a lie as a manager finally was able to look it up) - then told they werent coming in but might come in next week (after our wedding). I guess they know they can be rude since they have some of the most competitive prices but unless Im desperate I am done with this store (at least this location).

I was here with my husband and two friends today. I didnt have my ID because we didnt originally plan to stop here today. Regardless, the staff offered and gave me wine samples without asking. For the record Im 28 years old. So, my husband, with an ID, checked us out, but the cashier asked for both of our IDs. I said I didnt have one on me, so she got the manager. Is this a Delaware rule? Because Im from PA and this was never an issue. Manager came over and said he couldnt allow the sale because he cant prove that my husband wasnt buying the alcohol for me and I could be underage. This is absolutely unacceptable of a rule. There are adults with their children in the store, are they checking them for ID? I was embarrassed and upset that I wasted an hour in that store and will make sure anyone I talk to knows that this store sucks and doesnt deserve your patronage.

Customer service here is HORRIFYING!! Worst of the worst. Staff were very rude, didnt know anything about anything they sold, and walking out to the car after grabbing 400 dollars worth of alcohol for an event to get my credit card, was told i couldnt come back in to pay for my order that was still sitting at the register for me (it was 8 on the dot and they were still holding the door for customers leaving) the rude lady just kept saying there is nothing i can do, and that i had to call corporate. EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH MY EXPERIENCE HERE. I have been coming here forever and been a loyal customer and this is how you treat people?!?!

Im from PA and was visiting family in DE. They recommended me to stop by on my way home. At the check out I was demanded for ID. Im 23. So granted, im asked all the time. But, it could of been asked in a much better manor and tone. Afterwards she demanded for my cousins ID. which, my cousin explained she did not have her ID on her. So instead of telling us politely she couldnt serve us, which I would completely understand. She called her manager over and the manager made a scene that was unnecessary. Horrible customer service. I never have been so embarrassed.
