This review is not about products or IKEA itself , simply about the horrible " for the lack of better word " customer service i have witnessed my friend receive at the white marsh location while attempting to return some of the furniture he bought about 5 months ago - I went to IKEA with a friend ( a judge is his respective country who is here to obtain his masters in criminal law ) first up was Liz ( lady with bright blue hair ) right of the bat had a less than pleasant greeting with no smile and said that she can exchange for store credit and no returns , when my friend reminded her of the companies policy of ( If youre not totally satisfied with your IKEA purchase you can return any item within 365 days, together with proof of purchase, for a full refund ) there Were no mattresses , she mentioned that she would have to call somebody who would come expect the furniture and confirm whether or not a return is possible , after about 25 min of waiting apparently the other associate had come down and was helping other guests , when my friend and I were finally asked " can I help you ? " we mentioned that we were waiting for a person who will inspect the furniture when she ( Karen ) I believe ( name tag was a bit covered up ) said that person was her , and with the worst attitude I have ever seen on any customer servic ever proceeded to ask again ( what the reason for the return ) and then questioned my friend when he gave his reasons , the sad part is this wasnt the best Karen and Liz were capable of , because the second they noticed I was observing the interactions and taking down their names it was night and day , their attitudes changed 180 degrees and they started smiling and using words like please and thank you and rest of transactions was a breeze , in the end return was made and money was refunded but I just felt like somebody should know about this , I work in hospitality and understand how good customer service should be and also understand that you cant watch your employees all the time so this review is my gift to you .

Poor to Fair is wayyyy too kind. Ikea has THE worst customer service policy and people I have ever experienced in any business, company, restaurant, period!. They will not help you, they are rude. I challenge anyone to call customer service or call any store directly and ask to speak with a manager, or ask to speak with a manger in person while youre at the store and have an issue.I called customer service to complain about an employee that may have been the laziest most complacent and rude person I have ever dealt with , and the customer service person flat out told me she would not let me talk to the store manager and SHE would handle the matter however she saw fit. I was so mad I drove back to the store and demanded to speak with the manager. The associate told me store managers are too busy to deal with customer complaints and that i should call customer service if I had a complaint. UNFRIGGIN BELIEVABLE! There is no way when you call the store to talk to any person and there is no way to have them physically check stock. The website always says the items are in stock then you drive to the store and find out that theyre not. They will not hold an item like a bed or couch even if you offer to pay in advance. They told me I had to just continually drive to the store and hope its there. I promised my daughter I would buy her a specific daybed and have been trying to do so for three months now, they order 2 at a time and they sell out the same day they arrive. the problem is....there is no way to know when they arrive. They wont tell you when they expect them if you ask. Once I buy this god forsaken bed I will NEVER step foot in IKEA again. I hope they alienate enough customers that they put themselves out of business. They would have deserved it.

Long ago in days of yore It all began with a god named Thor There were Vikings and boats And some plans for a furniture store Its not a bodega, its not a mall And they sell things for apartments smaller than mine As if there were apartments smaller than mine Ikea: just some oak and some pine and a handful of Norsemen Ikea: selling furniture for college kids and divorced men Everyone has a home But if you dont have a home you can buy one there So rent a car or take the bus Lay your cash down and put your trust In the land where the furniture folds to a much smaller size Billy the bookcase says hello And so does a table whose name is Ingo And the chair is a ladder-back birch but his friends call him Karl Ikea: just some oak and some pine and a handful of Norsemen Ikea: selling furniture for college kids and divorced men Everyone has a home But if you dont have a home you can buy one there Ikea: plywood, brushed steel Ikea: meatballs, tasty Ikea: Allen wrenches All of them for free All of them for me Im sorry I said Ikea sucks I just bought a table for 60 bucks And a chair and a lamp And a shelf and some candles for you I was a doubter just like you Till I saw the American dream come true In New Jersey, they got a goddamned Swedish parade Ikea: just some oak and some pine and a handful of Norsemen Ikea: selling furniture for college kids and divorced men Everyone has a home But if you dont have a home you can buy one there

Ive bought plenty of their furniture over the years, and I like the company, but oh what a bad experience on Saturday. My wife and I were among the horde that descended on the store on Saturday afternoon. It was just so crowded and chaotic, it really sapped any of the joy from the experience. We had questions about a TV stand, but the associates in that department had a throng of people waiting for them so it was never answered. The curtains we were told were in stock ended up being sold out, and we never found anyone in that department to even ask for help from. They had the bathrooms on the first floor closed off and the mens room next to the restaurant had a line snaking out the door. After about 40 minutes of getting pushed and shoved by other shoppers and not being able to find what we were looking for we grabbed a $10 cutting board and decided to get the hell out of there with our sanity intact. I really cant blame IKEA for the crowd they draw, I suppose they are victims of there own success, but god almighty I will absolutely pay the extra freight to order online and get stuff delivered. It was just about the most unpleasant retail experience Ive ever had. I would say the demand from our market would justify Ikea opening another store in our market between College Park and White Marsh!

Staff not willing to help on the floor. Even when I walked over to ask a question the worker was annoyed that I was interrupting her reading. When I asked my question the employees answer was a flat " I DONT KNOW" then went back to reading. I just stood there then realized that was the all she was going to offer. I reported the employee on the Ikea customer satisfaction card after you check out, but to date have never received a followup from Ikea. This transaction was over 6 months ago. So if you have questions about the product this is not the place you want to go. If you want customer service this is not the place to go. If you want to feel like a valued customer THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT THE PLACE TO GO. But.....If you want inexpensive home furnishings, self serve then Ikea is the best option. I gave 1 star for the products I purchased. I took 4 stars away FOR: 1-NO CUSTOMER SERVICE 2-LAZY FLOOR EMPLOYEES 3-UNKNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF 4-NO FOLLOWUP WHEN REPORTING A PROBLEM.
