Im giving it 3 stars because I have had both good and bad experiences here. To start with the good, I came in to buy some more fish for my tank. The associate that helped me with the fish was very informative and answered all of my questions thoroughly. He talked with me and helped me find fish that would best suit my tank based on what I already had in it. Also, when we first went in to get puppy supplies, we signed up for a rewards card. The associate was very nice and explained to us the perks of having a rewards card, and told us about all of the free services that can be given (nail clips, first groom, etc.) once we get our dog. She also searched the little booklet they give you when you first get your rewards card and found us some coupons that could apply to our order. She was very enthusiastic and kind to us. Now, on the flip side, we got our 8 week old puppy and I noticed that Petco did something called "puppy playtime", which allows puppies 8 wks-6 months to socialize and play with each other. It stated that they required vaccination proof, which was reassuring to me, especially with my little 8 week old who has only had one set of vaccines so far. I looked on their event calendar and noticed that they had a session for that same day. I called to verify and just make sure that it would be okay for us to come in. I started with, "I just wanted to ask some questions about puppy playtime today-" and was immediately cut off with "I dont know if we have a trainer in today, I need to check." and was put on hold. After maybe 5 minutes, she comes back on and says "I dont have a trainer today, so no puppy playtime." She was very abrupt and didnt allow me to finish my initial question. I just said okay and hung up because I felt like the fact that I even called to ask a simple question was bothersome to her and I didnt feel like dealing with it. Also, I didnt mind that it was cancelled for the day, but the event calendar should have been updated to reflect that. I went in later that day to buy some supplies and asked an associate which vaccines were required for puppy playtime, just to verify because I was unable to find it online. His response was a condescending "All of them." He wasnt able to tell me specifics, only that "the rabies was most important." Now, an 8 week old puppy isnt going to have all of his vaccinations, so maybe the range of dates for puppies allowed at puppy playtime needs to be changed to 16 weeks(when most puppies have all of their vaccines) to 6 months. I still dont have an answer as to if the vaccines my puppy has will allow him to be a part of puppy playtime, and Im not even sure that I want to take him there from the experience Ive had.

I had paid for the Puppy Essentials Package and the trainer, Sarah had gotten so sick that she was unable to finish the classes. She had cancelled class multiple times as well sometimes without even notifying her clients. She had texted me the day of a class and had told me she quit Petco and they would get in touch with me about the classes. No one contacted me. I called and they said I could come in and get a refund. I went in and spoke to the male manager who had an eye patch. The manager had asked if I wanted to wait-- I interrupted him and said no I would just like a refund and he said, "you didnt even let me finish talking." He asked if I had my forms or receipt and I said I didnt but it was in the trainers books. After he had found the forms, he asked another woman, Wendy, to help me with the refund. She asked if I had the receipt and I said no, the male manager came up to me and started getting attitude about not having the receipt, which I said I did not have from the beginning of the conversation. I again told him no. Wendy then asked if I have my Petco rewards and I said "I do but I dont---," the manager had interrupted me without letting me finish so I asked him if I could finish talking and he just kept talking over me. I looked at Wendy and had ignored him the rest of the time. I then finished explaining to Wendy about the Petco rewards and she took care of me from there. The manager then continued to say to me, "Why arent you looking at me, I am talking to you maam." I continued to ignore him. Wendy finished me up and gave me my refund. This experience makes me never want to go to this Petco again, the employees are wonderful and Wendy got me taken care of, I appreciate her. I DO NOT appreciate the manager, he was rude, inconsiderate and talked down to me like I was his child. I hope Petco comes to find better management here and maybe put one of the associates as manager-- they are a better help than that manager ever could be. They actually have customer service skills and problem resolution skills unlike this manager.

Weve had some pretty awful experiences at this location in the past, but tonight takes the cake. Horrendous customer service, notably from one female employee that tried to "help" us with the fish. She was adamant that it was ILLEGAL for her to sell us a beta with any other fish if she knew they were going in the same tank. She continued to go on and on about how she could lose her job and go to jail if she sold us the combination of fish we wanted (a combination of fish that weve done very successfully in the past), and proceeded to call us "dishonest" people for trying to bypass the ridiculous "laws" she was spewing. We finally were able to get a "manager" over (who I dont think was even a manager) who promptly informed us that nothing was in fact illegal, at which point in time the arrogant, rude lady stormed off upset. Worst customer service Ive ever had the displeasure of receiving. This was just the cherry on top of all the other bad experiences weve had here. The "manager" was great, but overall tends to be a poor location. Avoid this specific store, even if it means going out of your way.

My cat has a chronic bladder condition which requires him to eat an all wet food diet with absolutely NO plant products. Petco has the best selection of all meat food for cats but its a hit or miss on whether or not I can find the kind that he eats in stock at that particular petco on that particular day. Often times I have to go to two or three petcos before I find what I need and then I have to make multiple trips because most of them only carry a few cans at a time. I am so sick of going on a wild goose chase just to buy cat food. The staff at this store said they would order some for me and never got back to me. They still dont carry it on a regular basis. The only Petco that seems to be reliable is the Sugarhouse one and that store is way out of my way. If Petsmart sold a comparable food for the same price I would shop there instead.
