Fantastic selection and superior service. Knowledgeable staff who are very patient. I come here every time Im in Fargo. Best art store in the region. I also caught the phone call in which Brandon (see negative review) was trying to insist on a paint return. I was both impressed by the clerks patience and professionalism and horrified that this Brandon fellow was clearly trying to blackmail the store into accepting paint returns in exchange for removal of his bad review. The paint section is positively PLASTERED with signs saying no returns, and I have photos to prove it. Id have told him off but the clerk put up with a lot of abuse and remained calm. Great local store. Wouldnt hesitate to do business here one bit. UPDATE: In response to Em Sather who somehow thinks a random person (and I have a friend who was with me) who walked into the store and heard the longest phone call in the world is somehow bought or encouraged by the owner to respond here on Google+, wrong. Ms. Sather, I assume youre a friend of Brandon, who now has changed his review to 5 stars. Perhaps he got his paint return. Nevertheless, Ive already reported him to several sites for abusive use of reviews. I dont even know the name of the clerk behind the counter, but it doesnt take a genius to understand, even from one side of a phone conversation, what was going down. You and Brandon need to grow up, be adults, and appreciate the local mom-and-pop art store that you have because many towns dont have such a thing. Trying to abuse them with threats online is disgusting. I do have screenshots of all that Brandon said, I do have photos (one of which I posted here) of the rather ridiculous number of signs that say "no returns on paint" that Ive posted here. I am not from Fargo, know no one involved in the store, and am simply a customer and artist who happens to appreciate a fine store. If youre an artist, you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to abuse the owners of this store in this manner. Support them, or they might not be around for you to treat so harshly.

Quite a nice store that I discovered downtown but Im saddened by these reviews. If someone spends two hundred plus dollars in any store, Id hope the clerk would let the customer know of the return policy, regardless of signage or something stapled to a reciept. I agree with Brandon. And Im also wondering how the reviewers who "caught the phone call" would have any idea of Brandons side of the conversation, unless the owner himself told them. It seems to me the owner is clearly asking for positive reviews now to make his rating go back up. Its sad when a company is more interested in positive customer reviews on the internet than the satisfaction of new or existing customers. I, for one, am disgusted. Update for Julie: Attacking other reviewers is the same behavior you say you are disgusted by. I suggest you take your own advice and grow up and be an adult.

I popped in for a nose around this week and was thrilled to find a "real" art shop for hobbyists and artists in Fargo. Great inventory and selection. No more Joes orders for me - they have the selection and prices to match - and we don;t have to pay shipping. Staff are easy to work with and could answer my odd questions. They have on-going demos and presentations by vendors too so that we can all learn first hand about products which I thought was excellent and really gives back to their customers. Well done to Art Materials for filling a much needed business void in our area.

Ive only been in a few times, but am starting art classes now. They have great service, awesome selection, and a student discount. I will be spending a lot on paper and other whatnots over the next few years, and Im glad I can keep it local with a group who is as dedicated to art as they are.

Its a cool shop! Not only are the employees knowledgeable on art, the costumer a are likely to be part of local art groups. You can buy quality supplies and learn about local art events at the same time!

Loved this place, but when I went there yesterday, it was no longer there. Highly disappointed, since it was my go to place for fabric paints and dyes, as well as traditional art supplies.

Its about time Fargo has an art store! Great selection and helpful staff. Nice variety of products, and a good location. Plus, they have student and teacher discounts (always a bonus!).
