Ysalys Kate - No More Lies
I have travelled the world, and been to pet shops worldwide. Fish and Pets has to be my favorite pet shop worldwide! Fish and Pets is one of those special, so hard-to-find "mom & pop" family shops. I hate the institutional type cold shops and big corporate stores that dont care about their customers, or the live animals some of them have. They will even trash good family shops like this shop all for the almighty buck. I am also a professional dog breeder, and there is no pet store that I would ever bring my puppies to, to sell, because they would never get the old-fashioned health care, loving, and attention my puppies get here. I do not use this shop for all my puppies, as most people drive from out of state to get my babies, but the puppies I do bring there get the best care, and play. Bringing them there is akin to letting them enjoy being in an indoor petting zoo; remember them? lolol And the cleanliness at this pet shop is the best Ive seen; especially with the overhwelming amount of business they have coming and going. Coming here is a happy experience, and I am loving that he finally found a store that is almost large enough to house his big heart. *smile* I just hope and pray that the huge corporate pet stores dont hurt him, and that no-one else ever tries to hurt him through jealousy, because there are not enough mom and pop family shops of any kind left in America. This pet shop is the epitome of what America used to be, and needs to get back to being. Down with the corporate warehouse stores, and the little elevator music pet shops that you feel you have to whisper in. lolol Good work, Fish & Pets! I will always come back, again and again; even if just for the experience. Cant come to your store, and leave with anything but a big happy smile pasted all over my face.

This place might seem nice because it is fairly clean, but it is absolutely APPALLING how many animals they have living in one tiny loud shop. There were dozens of birds cooped up in one corner of the store, and a Blue Macaw kept in a cage that was much too small for its size. I didnt look closely at the puppies individually, but I cant help but think they must have all come from a breeding mill since they were so many different breeds and all pretty much the same age. I cant imagine they would contact that many different individual breeders to keep that many puppies "in stock" in their store. Also they know NOTHING about caring for pet rats- they pick them up by their tails and use pine bedding in the cage, both of which are EXTREMELY harmful to these creatures. They had no toys or food in the cage, only a pvc pipe for all of them to lay in. When I asked for assistance, the lady just picked up the pipe in which they were sleeping and very carelessly flung them all onto the cage floor. I know its tempting to overlook faults and forgive a small "mom and pops" store, but I strongly recommend not to support them. If youre looking for a puppy of a specific breed, consider calling any of the many rescue organizations or AKC breeders around Buncombe or Henderson county. Also if youre looking for a rat as I was, read into the characteristics of an ideal environment from which to get one. This place is DEFINITELY NOT it.

I have seen a few reviews knocking Fish & Pets because of what they perceive to be poor conditions, but let me remind everyone that this is a small, local pet shop. Its probably about the same look as a pet shop my 60 year old mother might have gone to as a child, and nobody was horrified about anything then. Besides, all pet shops submit to health inspections. As a small business, the only way to possibly stay in business is to maintain good relationships with customers and stand behind your animals, products, and service. This is why I have to give Fish & Pets 5 stars. We took home a black German shepherd pup last week and were very pleased with the animal, the service, the limited warranty, and the affordable price. We saw a photo of her parents, were told a little about the breeder, and even told their name on our documents for the puppy. If these animals were coming from so-called puppy mills, why would there be such transparency here? Im most impressed, however, with the shops commitment to stand behind their animals. When our pup fell sick and it was not clear where she might have contracted the sickness, the shop ownership took every step to ensure the health of other animals and to satisfy me as the customer. They even called me to check on how the dog is recovering. This, in my mind, shows a commitment to quality and integrity in business.

There are sour apples here with several of these reviews. One of them is just plain stupid. This pet store is not new and modern, it is old, small and cramped. But they do not run a pup mill service they use local breeders and they stand behind them. The personnel could not be more supportive and helpful. I bought a little Persian mix kitten and she was scared to death when I brought her home and hid under the couch. Once I confined her to the bedroom, she was fine. We are joined at the hip and I couldnt be happier with my new little baby. The shop owners are extremely kind and go out of their way to assist their customers. This store has been around for awhile and they know what theyre doing. Now I frequent the store more often, I buy her food and other items I need to keep her healthy and happy. A great shopping experience I recommend this store highly. If you want modern sterile, go to a mall and quit complaining.

I am so MAD that Fish and Pets closed. I bought my five year old boxer from the owner and he is the sweetest most helpful man ever!!! My boxer is the most perfect boxer youve ever seen!! She is gorgeous and means the world to me. After getting my boxer, Penny; Ive always said I will never get another dog anywhere else. They had a wonderful/ perfect business. I would even bring my 1 year old daughter in there to hold the puppies and she loved it. She would always give them hugs and kisses. Whatever the reason for them closing down, Im just praying that they will open another one soon. This was the only locally owned pet store around here with puppies! Ive been going here since I was young, it really upsets me theyre closed.

We came with our friends to have their daughter pick a dog. Bad idea. If your children want to pick up a dog they will be rudely yelled at by the bitter store lady. Our friends daughter is 12 and very mature so there wasnt danger of her harming the pups in any way. While the store lady impolitely kept going on, there were plenty of other girls (younger than our own) picking up puppies.. so why pick on our kid? Racial discrimination, perhaps? We were very disappointed by the ill-mannered store people. How can a kid choose a puppy if she cant even pick it up? Some of the pups also looked sick. We went twice in the same day, in the morning and afternoon, and the cages hadnt been kept up.
