Accidentally discovered this store when walking down Ninth Street one day and was pleasantly surprised to find they carry a huge selection of dog food (specifically the one brand my finicky dog will eat) at really reasonable prices. Im here once a month to stock up on dog food and treats (they even carry locally made Barley Labs dog treats). Though I havent spent much time browsing the shops other inventory, I know they carry cat food, as well as food for other pets and pet supplies (collars, leashes, toys, etc.). Then theres the garden supply section of the store where youll find organic fertilizers to help your garden grow. I plan to come back in the spring to buy supplies for my planned patio garden (they also carry seeds and seedlings). The staff is helpful (even offers to carry the extra large sacks of dog food to my car for me).

Their prices are affordable (competitive with Amazon), and we get the pleasure of supporting a local business. Also, for our food brand (which Ill add a lot of other chain pet stores dont carry), they have a customer loyalty program that lets us earn free food. The staff is always friendly and helpful, including giving us free samples, and the store is a clean, welcoming environment. Highly recommended.

Barnes has high quality products and helpful associates. I go there for pet supplies, so I cant comment to much on garden supplies. Their pet food selection is great and they are great at helping you find what you need. They have samples of most foods and will take food back if your pet wont eat it. Very nice, independent, local store.

Knowledgeable staff and very willing to help. I know were Amazon/online consumers these days, but yesterday I bought cactus potting mix ($5.99 at Barnes, $12.99 on Amazon. Chuck-It dog toy ($7.49 at Barnes, more than that at Walmart.) Dog food prices are the best Ive found, including Costco. They have a repeat customer in me.

Best service of any business I have had in Durham. Went in to grab soap for my husky (who had a mild heat rash) and left with everything I needed and more. The clerk also had knowledge of some ways I can change her diet to help her out. I will definitely be back for more food, and return business at this store.

This Country style garden and pet supply store feels like the true country stores I visited as a young boy in the 1960s. Sooo many interesting items to look at and friendly staff to tell you about their unique merchandise. One of the best hidden Durham Gems.

I get dog food here. There is a guy who is into dogs and can tell you about all the foods (they have a large selection of good foods). He also gives my dog treats when I bring him in :)
