Went in today for the first time to check this place out. For selection, you couldnt ask for more... I also think the prices were rather reasonable overall. I did not look at the puppies as a small child was playing with them and only glanced at the birds, but they looked all right from a distance. The mammals were all right, but I do wish the female and male rats were not housed together-- that is definitely asking for trouble in terms of unwanted pregnancy on unsuspecting customers in rats much too young for breeding. They also were lacking hides or any kind of enrichment, and 10 gallons are definitely not ideal for rats... The fish section was amazing and immaculate, I was very impressed. What interested me so much was how nicely kept the fish section was in relation to the rest of the store? I dunno if different people work different departments but I think in all the tanks I saw maybe one? dead fish and the water quality was really great. Perhaps some of the tanks were a bit on the small size for what they housed, but it was nice all in all. What didnt impress me, was the reptile section. Stuck sheds on multiple animals, not enough humidity, substrate that appeared to not have been changed in a long time in some cages, and improper caging for most of the animals. A Chondro was shoved into a corner and he had next to nowhere to hang, which is imperative for the species as they are arboreal. Most of the large constrictors had eyecaps stuck on and not a SINGLE ONE of them had a bowl large enough to soak. Most were attempting to (I assume from the low humidity...), but could not fit. At the bottom of one of the long ends a large python was put in one of the bottom cages and had absolutely 0 water or hide, and had stuck eye caps. The most distressing was the large Burmese Python literally crushing the tub she was trying to soak in because she was double the size of it. There was a nice selection of product otherwise and I was very intrigued and impressed with the place overall, it just really needs a bit of TLC. The staff that helped me was very personable and upbeat, I just wish a little more care and attention was paid. I know with that volume of animals its hard, but perhaps cutting down if its becoming overbearing might be wisest? I will continue to patronize this store, but Id really like to see it a little better looking next time-- mostly (especially) the reptile section and small mammals.

I would do ANYTHING in my power to get anyone to stay the hell out of this pet store. I do reptile rescue work and I can say that I could make a living off of saving the lives of all their reptiles. They;ve been breeders for over 20 years and still have no idea how to care for their reptiles. Cages are extremely over crowded, and have about 4-7 snakes in each cage, these cages are SMALL 1x1x1 cages. The bigger reptiles are kept in 3x2x2s and still forced to be caged with other reptiles of the same size if not bigger. Ive been in that store and there were 9 6-11 ft snakes in ONE cage. They get in a bunch of illegals as well that they say are "not for sale" but everyone knows for the right price Fred would sell them in a heart beat. Ive seen MANY cases of crypto in this building, the most recent was their Sailfin dragons, which have been pulled from the tanks after I said something in the showcase. Crypto is a disease that kills off EVERYTHING including making people sick. From previous employees i have heard cases of Merca getting transferred from the reptiles to the employee staff. There are also ALWAYS at least 1 dead reptile somewhere in the showcase. I have counted up the 17 dead reptiles at one time in the whole showcase. They over crowd cages, dont care about disease, dont care about mites, dont care about infection, and dont care about a animals well being. They are in it for $$ only and are terribly rude people. I got an iguana from there FOR FREE because i refuse to give that store any money. This iguana had a broken jaw, dropped tail, respiratory infection, mites, and severe mouth rot. --- They wanted $40 for this iguana in the condition it was in. I will do anything to get people to not go to this pet store. It deserves to be shut down AGAIN only this time... for good.

We purchased a 400.00 Bengal kitten March 2012. Kitten was a fraction of size of other siblings. He was one of 9 kittens. expressed concerns at time of pick up and was told he was just the runt and he will catch up and do much better on his own. I called the next day and expressed further concern on his condition and was told I needed a vet certificate.I already had appt. for next day but the poor kitten died before making it to his appt. Devestating my young children and myself. They demanded aultopsy. I sent him to cornell . They found a severe inflamation and infection suggestive of severe viral infection left untreated so long that he suffered an estophageal rupture. possible causes for severe infection like his are herpesvirus& feline coronavirus.Or unsanitary conditions. All cats were kept in small cage with one litter box. also has evidence of disease in small and large intestine. showing severity of systemic infection. Proving this could not have develpoed in the few days I had the kitten. I was told they believed I force fed the kitten and ruptured his estophagas myself.Even though final report from altopsy states clearly that is not at all true. They refused to look at it and owner would not talk to me. Had employee address me. No One should have to go through what we have. And this sweet cat did not have to die. He needed treatment. His condition was to advanced by the time I purchased him. I have the proof I need and will filing action in court as well as reporting to the department of agriculture. I wish I read reviews and checked all the reports to BBB before making purchase. Please dont be a victim. Though I know I will have no problem proving the neglect and recieving refund and compensation my main concern if for the animals and other possible victims.

I recently purchased two horned lizards (Phrynosoma platyrhinos) from Pets Plus, which opened my eyes to the horrible business practices of this pet store. I purchased these from them three weeks ago, and learned, after purchasing, doing some research, and consulting with the world Phrynosoma expert, that these reptiles were both very sick--Extremely malnourished, dehydrated, and stressed. After conversations with employees at Pets Plus Reptiles, I learned that this store fails to feed them the proper diet, keeps them in inadequate enclosures at inappropriate temperatures, and maintains them in crowded conditions. But this is not the worst part. What I have learned is that Pets Plus Reptiles traffics in many reptile species stripped from the wild in the southwestern US. Horned lizards are protected in much of their native range, and with good reason: Their numbers are dwindling dramatically. When confronted, Pets Plus has (with great hostility) stated they will continue to do business with the private distributor who has been cited for poaching these and other sensitive reptiles from the wild. Horned lizards are some of the most difficult lizards on earth to keep in captivity, and Pets Plus puts profits above the well-being of these lizards to sell them to inexperienced and unknowledgeable buyers. Please help the reptiles of Pets Plus by avoiding all business with this company. If you care about our ecosystems or have a passion for reptiles in any way, please let the owners of Pets Plus Reptiles know that the unethical and irresponsible practices of this company cannot continue.
