I am, out of shape, overweight and decided to get back on the right track. After checking out a few bike stores where I felt pressured and had the impression they were trying to sell me more than I needed I headed over to Performance. I found the staff and management courteous and helpful. The selection was good. I had actually been in there a few times perusing bikes before I decided to buy. When I did buy, I felt that Dave (the fella that sold me my bike) took my needs and physical shape into consideration. We picked out a bike that was actually a bit under my price range. Nice to buy somewhere the staff doesnt get paid commission. I tire of salespeople trying to up-sell me. Anyhow, I took the bike home and did some rides around town for a week or so. I was having trouble with changing gears. It got to the point where I had to bring it back to the store. No one could reproduce my problem. In the end, there was nothing wrong with the bike. It just wasnt the right bike for me, Rather than blow me off, I found that the staff and management "took ownership," of my issue. For them whether or not the bike worked was not the issue. Rather, their concern was that the bike did not work for me. I have read some reviews where folks found the staff rude or stand-offish. I found the opposite. Dave and company were not letting out of that store until I was a happy customer. We decided to try another bike. They took my first bike back at full price and sold me my new one. I got home with the new bike and it seemed to have an issue as well. So back to the store I went. These guys were so cool. PLEASE understand, there was nothing wrong with the bikes they sold me. It had to do with the shape I am in and how I ride. These guys were patient, honest and customer service oriented. I would have been exasperated with me for the number of times I showed up at that shop. These guys were happy to help. Check them out. You wont be disappointed.

STAY AWAY! If you anticipate a warm welcome as a walk-in, especially on a Sunday afternoon of an EMPTY store. Now I know that a busy store at a bike shop doesnt always constitute the presence of customers as some people leave their bikes for servicing however, there were 3 employees on staff - to which all 3 have once serviced my bike in the past. I walk in with a very minor issue which wouldve been a quick fix for them. Addison approached me to ask what he could do for me, I told him I swapped out my rear tire myself as my old tire had a hole that kept allowing for punctures in my tube BUT my ride is still tough, where did I go wrong in swapping out the tire, I merely wanted a professionals eye. He said, "Oh, well your chain is too tight." I say ok I figured that, could you guys perhaps loosen it real quick? He says, Nope! We cant do any labor right now, Hes pretty backed up back there (pointing at one of his coworkers thats ACTUALLY working) I look back at the lone servicemen working and then look at the other employees that were present and think are you kidding? Is this your idea of customer service? To tell a customer no. I pause, stunned, essentially waiting for him to offer up another option. Hes says, "Yeah, sorry nothing we can do." I left enraged and in sheer disbelief. He had no intention to service me, he didnt care if I left unpleased, there was no sense of urgency in the atmosphere to leave any customer with a lasting impression. A good lasting impression at that. Customer service once meant meeting the needs of the customer by any means, especially when youre more than capable of doing so. All in all I returned home to push my tire a little forward to alleviate my chain a bit and problem solved. I reported Addison and the establishment to the corporate office. Well see what happens. Thanks for listening guys.

I am new to biking and this review is geared to other newbies looking for a store/shop. After reading multiple store reviews, I found this place to be the store I needed. It has great value entry-level bikes (as well as high end, but I wasn’t looking at those) with very knowledgeable staff. They patiently helped me through all my dumb questions and found me a perfect bike for my needs and budget (I told them my budget and they didnt show me anything over it). There was zero pressure to buy and I genuinely felt they were excited about someone new getting into the sport and they wanted to help however they could. I ended up buying a GT Avalanche (entry level mountain bike which I have since read multiple reviews glorifying it as the best mountain bike under $500). I took it home and rode it for a week. I ended up having some gear trouble (probably due to being new and grinding them) and blew a tire (thorn). I kind of felt dumb for causing the gear issues and asking them to fix a flat. They treated my requests as if normal and made me comfortable to ask additional questions/help. They made adjustments and got it running like new for a total cost of a $7 tube (didn’t charge anything else). Overall, top notch customer service on multiple visits, great value and great knowledge. So happy I found this place!!! Recommend to any new rider.

Update: This place was great at first, with superb customer service and seemingly knowledgeable staff. I purchased a new full suspension bike here over a year ago and the experience was great. However the last several (6-8) visits have been just terrible. Problems, beyond problems, beyond problems. Ive been sold wrong parts, incomplete parts, etc. I ordered parts in store and a week later got a call the parts were in. I drove 45 minutes one way to find out the part never even shipped. Guess Ill have up find a shop that can get it right. Original review: Thank you guys, great customer service! I bought an inexpensive pre-owned Giant mountain bike for my girlfriend to ride to see if she likes biking. The bike needed some new cables, these guys were very helpful, honest, and fair. I dropped it off one evening and they had it back to me the next morning. The store had a great selection of inventory in stock of both bikes and accessories, I was looking for some new QR skewers as well and they had them in stock as well and, they were less expensive than the online stores! I dealt with Jacob and he was super helpful and knowledgeable about the product! Thanks again guys, Ill be back!

My boyfriend is just getting into road biking with me and has been looking for a good starter bike. He found one he liked the looks of at Performance Bicycle in Charlotte. I sent him by the store to test out the bike and to see if it was something he wanted. I told him if he really liked the bike that I would buy it for him. So after being at the store for an hour and having the bike fitted to him they tell him that I am not allowed to pay for the purchase unless my credit card and I are present in person at the store (I live an hour & half away). This clearly did not make sense, how is this purchase any different than a long distance phone order? We then asked if I could purchase it online and select in store pick-up and he could get the bike that way. They told him that if I ordered the exact same bike online that it would have to be shipped from the distribution center and we would be charged a $50 shipping charge FOR THE SAME BIKE!?! I do not appreciate the poor customer service and would unfortunately not recommend anyone to them.
