Costco is less of a retail store and more of a shrine, or temple if you will, to great values. When you walk in you are immediately blessed by the holy grail of retail electronics, where everything is cheap and they are all high quality models. Delving deeper into the church you are imbued with the cleansing aura of discount groceries and housewares, even sometimes stumbling into a miraculous clearance item, the most sacred of offerings. This is not to mention the five dollar rotisserie chicken seasoned with only the finest spices and accoutrements. After sanctifying your wardrobe and purifying your body with the richest of ointments and cleansers you are given the opportunity to receive the ultimate reward, the Costco hotdog. The penultimate value in all of the fifty kingdoms, this holy meat tube not only fills and warms your belly, but is easily the most enlightened your taste buds will ever be for under $2. Once the Father or Mother checks your receipt you will head back out into the pagan wild, though in truth, your heart will always stay within the Most Glorious of warehouses.

I been Costco customer since Costco exist. I always was and Im satisfice with the product and prices, because Costco always brings the best a the lower price possible. I come to Rochester from Florida and I was expecting to find a Costco store here in the area, but it was not one here, so I call the corporation to know and see if they will soon open the store here, but they told me "no" they will not open the store here because the market here in Rochester was the worse in the whole nation, so dont expect that they will open one here. And for 19 yeas i wait that a miracle occurs and finally, it happen. I was faithfully paying my membership every year, and occasionally I will go to Costco in St. Catherine in Canada. But now Im happy that it is not a dream anymore but a reality. I recommended to anyone t became a member of Costco because it is a great place to shop and also the guaranty and returns are with out questions, and always improving their service in other areas. Thank you Costco for open the doors here en Rochester, New York.

Its a Costco, and a relatively new one at that. Decent variety, cheap high-quality meat, low-end prices on electronics, bulk everything (although if youre living alone, its kind of a pain). Having regularly been to ones in CA, CO, and NJ, the only chance youre getting a good spot at any of those is if you arrive before they open. Here, you can park right at the front door practically any time of day. Theyre switching to Visa in 3 days so you can use any Visa card there (instead of AmEx) but their store card (through Citi) has decent cash back that covers the annual fee and then some. Have had a few quality issues with them on food - for example, their bananas rot by the time you get them home, so Id stay away from them on produce. Tasty cheap food court to ruin your diet. Damn cheap gas, too, and no lines! (Try finding that in CA.) They usually only have two or three registers open, though, so theres a short line to check out. Its brand new, opened summer 2015, so very clean. Whole hell of a lot better than going to Aldi.

Can get some great prices on things here. However hours are not great ( closing at 6 on Saturday is ridiculous) and I find it extremely annoying that they take only one specific credit card! When we joined it was American express which was perfect for us...now its a Visa which isnt a good fit for us ,so a bit of a problem! Too much is "seasonal" even with foods. More than once ive come back a day or so later for a deal and had it be gone, and not getting in any more of the product ( last year with garden soil, recently with a dehumidifier...so some deals very hit and miss). Staff is friendly. Like the samples...has got me to buy things I wouldnt have otherwise! I like the specials are automatically taken off at the register...but I do miss being able to use manufacturers coupons as they dont take them. I am still on the fence about membership here.

Costco is very focused on providing easy interaction with employees and almost militant about upkeep and making sure customers are not stuck in long lines or cannot find the help they need. In just one visit three employees spoke up asking if I needed help or to tell me about a product. A checkout helper directed us to an open line and unloaded our cart for us. And when someone spilled a drink in the food area, it was addressed in less than a minute. This is very different than the slow as snails experience at Sams Club (customer service desk is a nightmare with inadequate help) or the invisible employees at BJs that dont notice you unless you set yourself on fire. The store is immaculate -- I only wish they labeled aisles with something other than cryptic three digit numbers.

I was a Costco member in California, and now reside in Rochester, NY and recently joined Costco again. I understand that things change from coast to coast, but the one thing that I found disappointing in the Rochester location is that I could not find any fresh organic produce. The Costco in LA has a large supply of very reasonably priced fresh organic produce. I switched from BJs to Costco here in NY and also found that some of the items such as Olive oil were much more expensive at Costco than at BJs. They also have a limit on the types of credit cards they accept. All in all, I expected a better experience at our local Costco here in Rochester.

Super Deals. Wonderfully helpful Staff. Many Organic Options. Seasonal items at Best Value pricing. Management is mellowing its stern-father figure (default position) approach to the Staff as everyone learns Honey motivates far better and longer than vinegar. Sometimes (usually always) a smile and a helping hand or giving someone a pass is more productive in achieving all the goals including community support (these folks are like our extended families and we too feel their triumph as well as their misery). Hunting down deals in a clean, organized, well stocked, comfortably laid-out warehouse environment is fun too. Happy deal hunting.

Few realize the devastating impact, when a company like Costcos invades a small City like Rochester, vacuums up the local currency and then exports these hard earned dollars for deposit in their home bank in, Washington. None of this money is reinvested back into our economy with the same impact as, for example Wegmans. Let us not forget the devastation to small business who cant compete with their economies of scale and eventually succumb by closing their doors. When you spend money, its important to know that you are not only supporting goods made in America, but your local economy as well.

pros - costco has good quality items at competitive prices, and good free samples . cons - you always have to have the cart full. If you are there with just a couple items, the cashiers and the people who check the receipts at the exit, look down on you. Unlike SAMS. Recently they started checking for ids at the cashier, to make sure it matches the name on the card. This defeats the purpose of sharing the membership in the same household. Again no issues at SAMS. Looks like they only like to cater to wealthy customers, acting all hoity toity.
