I fell in love with the looks of the Pashley Guvnor . I originally planned to order it from a fancy Manhattan bike parlor. Then I stumbled on to Bronx River Bicycle Works while surfing the net . I contacted the proprietor, Ted, and asked if he could order it? He said yes and I ordered it on the phone during my initial chat , at a savings over the quote I had gotten from the other shop. Within a week Ted called me to report that the bike was ready for pick up. I went up to Mount Vernon and entered Teds shop. It has a certain feel to it upon entering. Creaky wooden floors that have their own story to tell. Bikes hanging from the ceiling and bikes parked neatly along the perimeter of the open spaces. A nice work area and classical music playing softly in the backround. Then there is Ted, who was welcoming and very friendly. He led me to my bike . He had it assembled and we made a few adjustments so it would fit my frame. Not one single scratch or fingerprint on it. This is what I want from a bike shop. I recently returned to replace the original pedals with a better fitting pair and to also fine tune the original adjustments. Ted dialed it in for me and I left there for the second time feeling very happy about the whole experience. Ive found my new favorite bike shop. I highly recommend Bronx River Bicycle Works. Give it a try for yourself ....

Just to say that this place provides awesome service is an understatement. There is nothing jazzy about this shop but if you want service this is the place to go. This guy loves bikes... he is definitely not fixing them for money and you will know this when you get the bill for what ever repair you are getting done .... he is fixing it for the love of biking. I have been to Dannys a few times they are an absolute pain to deal with ... try this guy and you wont regret it.

I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED MY TIME HERE!! Great service, Ted I think the guys name is? Older guy with long grey beard, was like thee best!! He was soooooo passionate about bikes and knowledgeable and his service was very admirable and I would recommend this shop to ANYONE who wants QUALITY service AT A PRICE THAT IS A STEAL!!!! The guy fixed so many things on my bike and charged me so little! THIS PLACE IS THE BOMB DIGGITY!!! Yup, I said it!!

I took my sons bike here to have a pedal repaired/replaced because it had been stripped. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone who is looking for a knowledgeable, courteous and reasonably priced bike repair. The guy who helped us, I believe he was the owner named Edward was Excellent. We had to leave the bike over night and upon his inspection of the bike he found several other issues and fixed them with no extra charge.

Top place in the U.S. to buy a bike or just kick back and chat with the owner, Ted. He is one smart dude. (For you female bikers, check him out, if you like guys with beards, he is one good-looker!) The place to buy a bike, have one fixed, or generally stand around and learn about Biking History, The French Revolution or the Zen Approach to Happy Living. I mean it, this place is the best! It was a great experience buying a new bike here. When there were parts missing from the original bike order Ted made sure that I was taken care of and that my bike left with me on my vacation a few days later. As other reviewers say, dont let the exterior of the shop fool you, he has an true passion for all things biking. You will leave with a great bike/repair and maybe even a good story.

I just bought a bike from this shop today. He is very passionate and very knowledgeable in what he is selling. He even showed me some awesome videos of famous riders and the bikes they use. At one point we actually talked while throwing this cool Frisbee around the shop. As long as his shop is still in Mt. Vernon I will keep my business with him. Really great and friendly guy.

Bronx River Bicycle Works did a great job on my sons bicycle. The derailleur got wrapped up in the spokes and bent the hanger. They fixed the hanger, replace the derailleur, and added pedal straps which improved my sons riding significantly. We rode nine miles that week for the first time. He rode like a champ...but slept about ten hours the following day.

Once you get past the location and bare bones shop, you find a very helpful and very qualified mechanic. brought one bike back to life for me. nice change from the attitude at some of the other shops if you arent dropping a lot of coin on a new bike. just gave him another bike to upgrade. will add another review if he comes through on that one too.

The man Teddy fixed my bike, he is a really experienced man with bicycles (he used to be a bike messenger) and very kind, he has a great attitude and knows exactly how to fix bikes. He didnt over charge me, and he did an amazing job fixing up my bike. I will be returning for a tune up later on in life and I recommend him to all my friends.

Place was awesome. The service was great. The owner was a trip, cool freaking dude. Very knowledgeable about bikes helped me out a lot even taught me a few things to keep my bike in check. Also if you like history hell talk it up with you. Definitely going to be coming back

Great bike shop, the owner Ted gives good advice and suggestions when it comes to finding a bike that you will be pleased with. He has a decent inventory of bikes to choose from. Competitive pricing and excellent customer service makes this my go to bike shop in the area.

Was a pleasant experience that had an old world charm. Eddies personality is very laid back and welcoming. When you enter you are immediately in a space that could easily be out of of the 1930s! I love the spirit in this shop and will make this my go to place for biking

A story to tell: My jazz-piano playin bike-ridin doctoral botanist sister was visiting and we went to BRBW to rent a bike. Ted set us up while my sister and a friend of Teds jammed it up royally. I dont go anywhere else for my bikes service (even without music).

The worst experience ever, went for a bent back rim and came out with a tire that didnt come with the bike.... He changed my pedals and kept my original...he basically stole parts off my cannon dale!!!! Then he tried to replace them with others bs!!!!

Ted is the man. Im 67 and he hooked me up with a big bike at a fair price. Had some trouble the first time riding with the gears. Shop is open late so I was able to stop by on the same day. Ted made some quick minor adjustments, bike feels good.

I walked in there with a flat on my way to work. Ted was very chatty, and I would have loved to stay longer, he is a real character with lots of interesting stories to tell. Anyway, he fixed my bike, great service, going back there for sure!!
