I can’t recommend this bike shop at all. The staff is unfriendly and is more interested in listening to the radio than helping customers. When I brought back my bike I had to wait 20 minutes. But that’s not the reason why I am writing. They gave me an old lock with the bike that I rented. That lock was frozen after I locked the bike during my lunch break. I had to ask a passer-by to help me, but even he couldn’t open it. After 40 Minutes I opened the lock, it was more difficult than solving a rubix cube. That ruined my whole day. After I returned the bike to the store, I showed the lock to the shop manager. Even he could not handle it. Now that!! He offered me to discount of an hour after I told him my story. And added with a sarcastic smile that I had the day flat rate, so there is no discount. That’s ridiculous.

I had a great rental experience with the Pedal Pusher. I was in town for a week from Chicago. The mountain Bike I was given was perfectly tweaked and ready to go. It was a Fuji Mountain bike that was seasoned but maintained well. No gimmicky stuff like seat springs. Just a good working bike that performed like a charm. Great Value too. To compare. I also rented from a place that had Brand New Treks that did not seem maintained or perform at the level of the Pedal Pusher. One of the bikes made noises that we could not figure out where the problem was located. The springy seats may have been comfortable but they took away from the performance. I think the main difference between the two businesses is that the Pedal Pusher has been in the bike business along time and knows how to maintain bikes. The other bike rental places had people that were just working for someone who wasnt around and did not care. Who ever called the owner a slob is a fool. Thank you Pedal Pusher

In light of some negative feedback on this site, it was with some trepidation I hired three road bikes from Roger in Pedal Pusher. What I have to report is quite different to what I feared might be the case. I was travelling from Ireland with my sons, and due to forecasted bad weather, our bike hire plans needed to be changed at short notice. We also had nowhere to store bikes in our hotel, so again we needed to alter our plans. None of this was a problem with Roger, who I found to be incredibly accommodating and understanding. The bikes were not the latest models for sure, but they were in good condition and mechanically worked excellently. All in all my experience was very positive, and on this basis I can absolutely recommend a bike hire from Roger. Further his store is a treasure trove for cycling enthusiasts (there is an awesome pantographed Pinarello bars & stem, with Campag mod-1980s SR levers), and across the street is a great deli/café!

I cant say enough about these guys! Honest to the core! I brought in my fixie to replace the breaks shoes on a bike I only had for 3 weeks and they not only replaced the breaks on very short notice (because they didnt want me killing myself as a bike messenger) they actually rubbed off the paint the idiot mfr but on the part of the wheel that contacts the breaks and was making them squeal and wear down so fast in the first place. Breaks work great now! They could have charged me for some high end brand but they were up front and said it wouldnt likely change the performance that much. I know their shop is a little hard to see from the west side of 2nd Av with all the never ending subway construction but if you want great complement work done by honey guys who love what they do, go to these guys! Also as I browsed while waiting I see they have an amazing selection of bikes. Check em out!

I started going here a few months ago when Toga on 1st closed down. Im in bike shops all the time because I ride all the time, and I never much liked Toga but stayed with them because it was close. I went here on a whim, and despite being a junky-ish looking shop, its a great place. Ive thrown all sorts of repairs at them and they always work it out. Their prices are fairly reasonable, and the guys are extremely friendly and helpful. I understand why someone might not like the owner (I dont really either) but if you head past him and talk to the younger guys, theyll treat you well. Dave(?) has worked on my bike often and helped me buy things, and is always very helpful and knowledgeable. Ive picked this out of a couple of other UES shops, and havent had a problem yet. They dont always have a bunch of stock, but will order anything you need. Very much a neighborhood shop.

Yes the bikes are old, but the important thing to consider is that most bike shops in NYC will not rent you a lock - they say it implies liability. Most shops in NYC rent you a shiny new steal me please bike at a high price with no lock (Toga, Gotham included). Its a crazy proposition never encountered anywhere else in the world. Most shops will sell you a lock for $50, but say they prefer you not to let bike out of your sight. One would not even sell a lock with a rental, so scared were they of the legal implications. Here I rented a worn, scratched, working bike and lock for several days for a fair price. The chain jumped off a few times, but I was a able to shop, sleep, eat and go to the loo without my bike. Common sense. Note; Mod Squad bikes on F Douglass Bd/115th will rent locks (and a shiny bike)

I usually thought this is a reasonable bike shop and i usually let them repair my flat tires. However, they have zero expertise in repairing problems with your gears/chains and more involved problems. After they repaired my chain that did not solve the original problem (the repair was a wrong recommendation and the cause of my problems was a different one) the owner refused another simple repair of my gears and recommended me to sell my bike (which is a old but solid and Schwin bike but very far from the need to be sold) I do not recommend this bike shop any longer ! Terrible experience ! About me: I grew up with bikes in Germany riding a bike every day since the age of 5 and when i had the time was repairing my bikes myself.

I went in to have my bike tuned up. The mechanics did this very quickly, same day, and I was on the road before I knew it--this seems to take a day or two at other shops. When I went in to pick it up, all of the guys there were very happy to see me and to give me my bike, it was actually a lot of fun, and they are all great. As I went on my way out, the Italian man named Luigi (whose apparently the one who afixed up my bike, and who doest speak much English) tried to hook me up with one of the mechanics named Pat, who I must admit is a looker. Though it was certainly not the experience I expected, I was helped in every way and am looking forward to heading back next time I need help with my bike (and not just for Pat).
