I frequent bike shops, so I am using my standard treatment at bike shop to compare. Sadly, they fell REAL short in "attention to detail". Check it out. I asked them to repair a derailleur which had a trash bag stuck to it (freak accident) along with a few spokes. I was going to go to another shop because I would have gotten a discount, but sadly, it would have taken a long time for them to repair since that part wasnt in stock. The mechanic here promised me to repair within a day after looking at it. Awesome. The price for service and parts was "market rate" (same price I was quoted by other stores, some were a little higher). So, I would expect them to do a standard job and if they threw in some detailing, wonderful. 24 hours later, they called and said they overlooked another part that was needed (a derailleur hanger) and it would cost me $30 more. Addition to that, they have to order that part, making it an additional day. I dont really have a choice in the matter, so I okay-ed the additional charge. (What can I do/say?) They got the part 24 hours later and managed to fix the bike as soon as possible. They even discounted a few bucks when I told them I came with a little less money (I had close to the amount, just shy of a few dollars). But now, we get to why its three stars. I noticed that they have to inflate my front tire upon me collecting my bike. Wait... Why? Turned out that they overlooked YET another thing: my front tire had a puncture. But I wouldnt notice that until AFTER I left the shop. So after spending money, I wasnt able to use my bike for very long because the front tire started to deflate upon leaving the shop! They overlooked the hanger, but how did they missed my front tire having a flat? They noticed the tire BEING flat upon giving me the bike, but they didnt bother to check WHY and they had it for TWO days? Since I left the store 30 minutes before closing time, I wasnt able to ask them why they overlooked the tire. So yeah... maybe the mechanic didnt have a sharp eye, but the fact that they missed two details, took more time than originally estimated and thus adding more to the cost than I was originally quoted makes this visit a three star at most. They did the principals, but didnt went the extra mile of making sure my bike was fully ready. Maybe they deserve three stars based on their name which stands for a 3-point type: a size smaller than brilliant. In other words, they fell 2 stars short of brilliant. Updated side note: There used to be three stars, but I took off one. Why? My derailleur (the same one they sold me) fell off a few weeks back. However, I managed to keep it in tact and when to my usual bike shop. They managed to put the derailleur back, but SOMETHING was off. I asked them why is my bike now skipping? I asked them to readjust the derailleur... only for them to tell me its a 7-speed one, not an 8-speed. So, Excelsior placed a 7 speed derailleur on an 8 speed bike and didnt alarm me about this. Suddenly, another star fell off this review.

Ugggg! I purchased my bike here about a year ago, and since have gone back twice for major service and have never had a positive experience. The staff is nice, but the mechanics arent competent and the service systems sucks. Due to a wreck, Ive now paid more to this shop in repairs than I did for the original bike. If they had warned me that might be the case I could have just bought a new bike. The first time I had to wait two weeks to have my fork replaced because they failed to order the fork twice, which was irritating enough and cost me $60 in public transit that I count on not paying. Even worse, after a wreck (the same one that caused me to have a fork replaced), they failed to warn me that my frame might be compromised. It ended up having a huge crack that grew out a dent. I took it in to have it replaced on Saturday, and happily got a call to pick it up on Tuesday. Unfortunately I arrived to find that they had forgotten to put pieces back on the bike, had put on parts that they hadnt warned me about, and that they had waited to ask me to replace a critical part (the brake calipers), which a mechanic had previously said was ok, but now they said needed replacing. So after leaving work early and two trips to pick up my bike I was finally on my way (and I had to rescue my brand new Shimano Pads of the old calipers, the new ones have the stock pads which arent nearly as good). Even so I was happy to be on my way and back to biking to and from work. Unfortunately, as I was crossing the BK Bridge this morning my handlebars started to role downward, since they hadnt tighten the stem adequately. Oh, and the chain knocks because its to loose. Maybe you should take your major repair jobs for a test ride guys?

Ive been here a few times and have always been on the fence about the service. I came in last night for a broken spoke. They told me it would be ready at 11am the next day. I came in at 7pm and they hadnt even started on it. Wish they were reliable. UPDATE: went here to pick up my bike on 9/8/15 after another broken spoke. I dropped my bike off on a Friday and they told me it would be ready by Saturday and that theyd call me. Todays Tuesday and I called them to see if my bike was ready because they never called. After trying several times—they say they open at 11, nobody picked up the phone til 3—I finally got someone in the phone to say my bike was ready. I dropped in and the spoke seemed to be fixed but they didnt even bother to put air in the tire after having to deflate it for the repair. Cmon guys, please, just a baseline level of customer service. I seriously never want to have to go here again.

Terrible, terrible bike shop. I paid for a tune-up just 2 days ago, but am going to need to go to a different shop for another tune up. The service is terrible and the repairs are impersonal and badly done. While I was waiting for a bunch of things to be fixed on my tune-up job, a lady came in whos inner tube was put in wrong. This shop is for rich hipster kids who will pay tons of money for bad service. They probably dont know the difference between a good bike and a bad bike. This store is unfortunately like much of the gentrification of the neighborhood: A pretty front for a bunch of garbage!

This was my first experience with a bike shop, so its hard for me to compare. All I can say, though, is that they fixed my flat tire immediately. The bike mechanic was very helpful and gave me good advice regarding the bike tire (not just the tube). He avoided using the most expensive materials based on the use I make of my bicycle. He also put some lube on the chain, which I appreciated. Staff were very kind and helpful. Price seemed reasonable to me. Definitely worth trying.
