An odd thing happened to me in Prospect Park today. I saw a woman fall off her bicycle on the hill near the lake. I stopped, called 911, and waited for the paramedics. She told the paramedics that a pedal came off the bike, causing her to crash. I had seen the pedal in the bike path, and I had brought it over to the bike. Her boyfriend was there, and I offered to store the bikes at my place so that he could ride along to the hospital. He said the bikes were on loan from Bicycle Habitat, and that they were coming to pick them up. They bikes looked brand-new, and there was no evidence on the pedals threads that it had ripped out of the crank. Heres the odd thing. Last year, on March 19, I picked up a bike I bought from Bicycle Habitat. I walked it on the sidewalk to corner of 10th Street and hopped on. A fraction of a second later, I found myself in the middle of the street. The pedal had popped off when I stepped up on it. I had some serious road-rash on my hand and arm. I took the bike back into the store, and they offered to reattach the pedal for me. I had to convince them to get me a replacement bike, and the manager reluctantly offered me a $50 store credit. At the time, I thought about writing a review, and I now wish I had. Someone there is not doing their job, and its putting people at serious risk of injury. I was fortunate that I waited to cross with the light, and I escaped with only a permanent scar on my right hand.

I ordered a $15 sadle online for my bike since mine got stolen last week and dont want to spent over $30 just for a sadle while leaving in 2 months and while I paid $45 for the whole bike. So I went to the store to ask about the pole diameter to make sure it would fit. Because of its low price an employee Emily lied about the pole diameter and then tried to sell me USED parts for $35. I already knew I can buy seat and pole new for that amount in 3 other stores in the area so she was totally ripping me off. I found out the exact diameter online and fits perfectly for my bike and if the sadle really wont fit me I have enough brains to find that out and make my own decision but I have good idea that this seat will work for a slim adult like myself. Emily had put my order on hold and refused to let it go through now saying its not safe for an adult bike since its a strider seat. So I cancelled the order and told her she has no right to make up other peoples minds. In turn she has now used my email adress and Im getting spam in my inbox minutes after the order got cancelled. Dont go to Habitat, theyre greedy and obviously their service sucks!!!

Id spent a lot of time researching panniers online and wanted to check them out before buying them. I asked Matt a ton of questions, trying to choose between two Ortlieb panniers, priced $150 and $180. He spent a lot of time with me, answered all my questions thoughtfully, and eventually steered me towards a $90 pannier which better suits my needs. I would have been happy to pay extra for the additional service provided from a brick-and-mortar retailer, but it turns out Bicycle Habitat had a great price, too. Ill be back on my next trip to NY!

Went in today ready to buy a bike. It was moderately busy. After spending 20 minutes viewing bikes and waiting for someone to help me with the size and the price, we decided to move on- ended up at Roys in Sheepshead Bay- I had the exact opposite experience there - I started looking at bikes and a very nice man helped me and answered all my questions about the difference in sizes, hydraulics, discs, models, etc. Roys was twice as busy and they still accommodated us. Ended up spending over 1K there. Better customer service and better stock!

More interested in you spending money than actually helping. They asked me with a straight face to leave my rim for an hour or two just to measure the axle. Waste of time and $$$. If youre in the neighborhood and need a helpful person who will listen to what you need without being a bike snob and suggesting you spend more, just go to Behind Bars on 5th Ave and 17th. Will never go back to Bicycle Habitat.

Had a wonderful experience buying a new bike here to replace my stolen one, which I had for 6 years. The staff couldnt have been friendlier and answered all my questions with complete honesty. I felt absolutely no pressure to buy a more expensive bike, and the salesman even encouraged me to go with the cheaper model because it met my needs better. Ill definitely be coming back in the future.

A terrible and disappointing experience. Upon stating my preference and price point , I was what I thought was "help" until I was turned away by a sales rep named mike. The sales rep was very informative until it was time for a transaction. I was turned away because “it was too busy” Huh?! I purchase the same product the same day from another bike shop.

An absolutely wonderful group of bike experts and enthusiasts, always willing to take the time to advise you on the best options for your needs. They helped me find the right match, over the course of 3 weeks. I tried various bikes and made multiple adjustments until we got it right. I highly reccommend them.

Awful awful mechanic. Seemed very put upon that I wanted my bike fixed. Did a shoddy job and argued with me about it before fixing it again. Staff not very knowledgeable. All hype and no substance. Go to your local bike shop, with friendly mechanics and staff who know you. Not these posers.

1st time shopper with two flats. They took care of the problem with no unnecessary repairs and had me on the road in 20 min. Prices were pretty standard and the service was good. I look forward to making this a more happy stop in the future. Thanks, guys!

Emailed the main info address to check their availability on a Surly bike. Got a friendly, prompt response and came in to go for a spin at the Park Slope location. Friendly, welcoming service that was patient with my dumb questions. Good shopping experience.

This is probably my favorite bike store in the US. They have a good selection and the people who work here are helpful and knowledge and seem to really care about bicycling not just for recreation but also to commuting or transporting.

The staff and customers have a serious bike pump stuck up their BUTT at this place. Go around the corner to On The Move. Those people are friendly, cool, AND THEY HAVE A CAT!
