We ordered a custom window with frame from the Eden Prairie Home Depot. The window developed a hairline crack one month after installation. Home Depot agreed to replace the defective window sash (ie, the window). However, I had to remove the window sash and install the new one in the frame. When I picked up the new window sash, I left the defective one with Home Depot. I unpacked the new window sash at home, and I realized that all of the hardware for connecting the window sash to the frame was not included. I had to return to Home Depot, where I quickly realized there were about 10 pieces of hardware and close to 30 screws on the old sash. Home Depot expected me to remove all of this hardware and install it on the new window sash. This required positioning all of the pieces correctly AND drilling pilot holes for the screws. When I asked for assistance, the window consultant refused and said that some of the parts couldnt be installed until the window sash was hung in the frame. Im not a window expert, but I didnt do this when I eventually installed the window myself. I just put the hardware on the window sash and then hung it in the frame. After informing the window consultant that I wouldnt be shopping at Home Depot again, he called his assistant manager, who said that they would assist with the hardware but that it would void the warranty. I decided to do it myself to protect the option of returning the window if there was a problem with it. I left the store frustrated with the combative customer service that I experienced at Home Depot. As a customer, I had one expectation. I bought a product -- a window sash with the hardware pre-installed. When the product was defective, I expected the product to be replaced, but I was given a different product -- a window sash without the hardware installed. I spent about 3.5 hours on this project, which should have taken less than an hour of my time. A footnote to this story is that when I eventually installed the window and went to clean it, I noticed there were streaks of adhesive on the window. It took me about 20 minutes to remove them. All of the vigorous scrubbing left me with a very sore shoulder afterwards.

Ive been going to this location for a decade. This Home Depot is a serviceable location very close to home, with a decent store layout, where its easy to find things, with sensible categorizes, and usually they carry what Im looking for at a reasonable price. While, Ive never been astounded by the associates, Ive never been steered wrong. If they dont know the answer theyre honest and dont try to make stuff up and, yes, they will point you to a different department or grab another associate. Ive never had to speak to more than two associates to find what I need (usually due to my oversight or ignorance). Typically I have only needed to speak to one associate to get what I need (item or information). And yes, when stocking large items they do need to shut down lanes. Ive seen them restock some pretty big items and never seen more than one aisle shutdown at a time. This is true of any store Ive been to that has to restock while open for business, not just Home Depot. Such complaints are unwarranted as the aisle is closed so no customers accidentally get squished. Trust me. Waiting is far less painful than a forklift to the kidney. In short: This location is okay. Just be reasonable in your expectations. Dont expect miracle workers or omniscient beings for associates and you wont be disappointed. P.S. Ive seen a lot of negative reviews as of late, some getting quite petty such as criticizing the hair style of the associates. Such items as hair styles are irrelevant and say more about the reviewer than the location reviewed. And remember when ordering replacement parts for defective products, a manufacturer issue, get as many details as you can about what youre actually receiving. (e.g. Is it a whole window including sash? just the pane? what skills are needed to properly replace the defective part?) The more you know, the easier it is to properly handle the replacement/return as well as negotiate discounted or free services, UP FRONT. Its always a pisser on the back end, no matter who youre dealing with, if you meet with an unexpected result.

Encountered an employee named "JP" aka DICK in plumbing today. I needed to plug a clean out in a floor drain where the threads had rotted away. When I asked him where I could find an "expandable plug" he looked at me like I was from mars and he was clearly annoyed that I was taking him away from whatever mundane task he was performing. As I explained futhur he pointed them out and said in a really douchie tone "test plugs". Typical know it all DICK but whatever, I gotta get the job done. As Im looking at the "test plugs" the measurements are not jiving as to what I think I need so I turn and ask DICK "what am I missing here?" and motion to him the plug doesnt fit as I expect. What follows is DICK basically schooling me in that same douchie, dickish, bullying tone all the while inturupting and not listening to me. What a total PRICK!!! It doesnt matter that hes got it all squared away in HIS head as to what I need. Its HIS job to explain it to me so I understand and can make an informed purchase to complete my project. He will from now on be know as DICK the know-it-ALL head of plumbing whos too smart and too busy to listen to the needs of me the lowly customer. The mens room is filthy. Why do I have to stand in urine in order to use the urinal. Dont you sell mops and cleaning supplies there? Why dont you use them! If the plumbing is leaking why dont you repair it?

What is wrong with people these days? Is customer service completely lost on companies? Im waiting to be checked out not because of a line, but because employees are having a conversation. The two women didnt even acknowledge that I was there waiting to be checked out. If you need to discuss things, turn your check out light off, or better yet go to an office /break room. After this as Im getting ready to leave, another employee walks over to join their conversation and rests his hand down on my cart while standing partiality in front of me! Its unbelievable. How oblivious and incompetent do you have to be? Im pretty sure one of them was a manage too, so its not like anything will ever change.

Friendly, but clueless. In the gardening center, the potting soil I wanted was sold out at customer level...but they have pallets of it shrink-wrapped and stored above. I tell the garden center cashier, who gets on a walkie to say a customer needs help with potting soil. A minute later, an employee from inside the store comes out and asks for clarification on what Im looking for, and helpfully leaves to literally look for a forklift operator. 10 minutes later, she returns to tell me that she couldnt find a forklift operator. No suggestion on when to return, no offer to call when its available, nada. Very nice, very friendly, but fundamentally unhelpful.
