I did my auto care here for at least 5 times in last 2 years with the service ranging from changing tire, timing belt, water pump, replacing front axial to replacing transmission. My total spend at this shop is about 2.2k. Initially i thought Ive found the place that I can trust to bring my car there with a total peace of mind that It will be taken care with great quality and honesty. Admittedly, the trust was partially because of lower prices they offered and also seem-to-be-a-great-commitment-to-excellent-customer-service shown by Abe, the owner. However after enough incidents and connecting the dots, I could say although the service can be cheap ( dont take me on this though, because I did not do a comparison with other shops here, but rather on my own estimation ), the quality of it is low and at best questionable. The mechanics seemed to be incompetent. And the thing I did not like the most, they do not seem to be honest. Last month I replaced my transmission because It was bad. They also recommended to replace the front axial because its was in bad shape as well. I agreed to do with a huge chunk of money for a student like me ( but to be fair, its was reasonable for this kind of major repair) and trusted them 100% on their service and quality of the used transmision that they got somewhere else because the owner assured me that he put his name on it. But then 5 weeks later fortunately when I changed my car oil at my other regular service the mechanics told me that my transmission was leaking badly as well as the axial! It was bad but I was so confident (though not happy) that broadway would fix it for free (at least the service part). But no, I had to pay additional 250 bucks (170 for labor) because they told me some seals leaked! Well, I had never had any leak before their service. Ok, I know my car is old but isnt it weird that the two things leaked at the same time after they replaced?? Worse, Abe told me even though the transmission was under warranty the seal (part of the transmission) was not therefore I had to pay! and I wasnt told about this at the first place. I know there are a lots of uncertainty here that we customer will never know such as what really happened, the quality of parts etc and that only trusting each other can help. I brought my car there because I trusted the people, not to "read the contract carefully before you sign it" kind of thing. But the inconsistent and doubtful explanation from Abe, together with other incidents in the past, enabled me reach a decision that I am not trusting them any more and will never service my car there again. FYI, in the past I brought my car their to fix the weird noise in front right wheel, they replaced the tire for me. The problem still persisted I told them, they argued the car was fine. Then finally they recommended to replace the axial. This shows me that the mechanics there are not competent. and when i replaced the transmission, they told me they would repair a little dent on the car body for me free of charge as a discount, that did not happen as well.

Broadway Auto recently helped me out more than I can say. On the way from Chicago my VW Passat overheated (even though I had just been to a Jiffy Lube to get my oil changed the day prior and coolant topped off). After towing it to AA, I called Broadway Auto when they first opened on Saturday at 9 am. I was greeted with a warm voice on the other end who assured me I could bring it right over. They assessed my car while I had breakfast across the street and when I came back, although the news was new timing belts I was happy because no other mechanic had educated me on this 100,000 mile repair. The owner was there with his son and assured me that the parts would be ordered and there by 1 oclock that day, full repairs done by 5 so I could drive back for work on Monday in Chicago. If you are a VW owner you know how rare it is to not only get a good estimate, but find a place that will do the work in a timely fashion. They were amazing, went over everything with me line-by-line and even gave me a UofM student discount. I felt comfortable, taken care of and got some great education on keeping my car running. They took the time to explain everything which I appreciated. Sure enough the owner himself called me when the repairs were done at 5 oclock and even stayed later after hours to help me out. HIGHLY recommended. Dealing with car issues is not easy, and talking finances is even harder. They are fair, efficient and truly customer-oriented.

I cant say this strongly enough - AVOID going to Broadway Auto Care! I live close to their shop, so I started going there out of convenience. My first bad experience was when I went for a routine oil change - they drained my engine of oil, but they forget to re-fill it with new oil! I could have burned my engine out if I had not checked it. Thinking it was an honest mistake, when I needed my next oil change I took it to them, explained what happened, and the guy apologized. But this time they over-filled it! If you dont know, this is absolutely horrible for an engine. I had to go through the trouble of draining some of the oil myself. The final straw for me was when my car was running really rough and I took it to them to get their opinion. They made the fix (without running it by me first like I had asked) and when I really pressed the guy about what it was that they actually fixed (because they didnt write anything down on the invoice regarding what parts where used, how many labor hours, etc), he told me they replaced one of the spark plugs. And they charged me $150 to do it. $150 for one spark plug! Of course there was nothing he could do about the price because the work had already been done. So the guys at this place are either incompetent or shady - either way, I wouldnt recommend taking your car to them. There are plenty of other garages to go to that may not be like this garage is known to be.

Theres guys are awesome. I was out of town over July 4th weekend and got back the morning of the 5th to find that the clutch of my 2000 Honda CRV with 280k miles wasnt allowing me to shift gears. The car would start but the shifter was stuck in neutral and the clutch had about 20% normal resistance. To complicate things I had checked out of my apartment 4 days prior in preparation for an upcoming cross country move (in the CRV- probably not the best idea with that many miles) and I also had a flight leaving from Chicago on the afternoon of the 7th for which I needed the CRV to function. I explained the situation to these guys, got the car to them the afternoon of the 5th and they diagnosed it by the end of the day. Basically the clutch needed replacement and they had to order parts. I was concerned it wouldnt be done in time for the flight and expressed this to them and even offered extra money to expedite the process. I spoke with the owner on the phone and he wouldnt take extra money. He said hed make my case a priority because it was the right thing to do. I picked up my car on the afternoon of the 6th and it drove perfectly. They did a safety inspection too as Ill be driving cross country when I return. They gave the car a clean bill of health! Ive never before worked with such efficient, ethical, professional, skilled, and personable mechanics in my life. I would recommend these guys to everybody!
