This is only a commentary on their service, there is no spot for "does not apply" in Quaility and appeal. A couple years back, our oven stopped working. I called Jarvis because Id heard some good things about them. The technician came out, looked at the oven and found obvious burn marks on one of the components. He called into the office and found that the replacement for that part was around $400. Well it seemed stupid to put that kind of money into an old oven, so I told him Id replace it. While he was there, I noted that our dishwasher wasnt acting very well either, so he said he would take a look at it. The water spreader (a little plastic thing at the top of the unit) had broken off and I thought that might be the problem. He assured me that it wasnt a big deal and that the problem was most likely a leaky dish agent dispenser. I asked him to quote replacing the dispenser unit and the water spreader. I got a quote back for over $600 for a complete replacement of the entire washer arm. Again it didnt make sense to replace an old unit for that much, but it was doing a passable job if you got all the solids off first, so I kept using it. Later, out of curiosity, I went online and looked to see what the parts would cost so I could try fixing it myself. I was surprised that you could replace the water spreader (a $6 part) without replacing the entire arm assembly and the detergent & rinse aid dispenser was around $60. I ordered both and a replacement bottom tray since some of the tongs had rusted out of our bottom tray and a replacement utensil holder for just over $200. I put everything in except the rinse & detergent dispenser as it looked complicated and tried it out. It works great now. I still have the dispenser in a box. So basically, I paid $160 to have two appliances looked at. The oven which to this day I wonder if I should have looked up parts before replacing it and the dishwasher that was misdiagnosed and a ludicrous quote to replace the entire arm assembly in order to fix the top water spreader. I don’t think they were trying to cheat me, I just think the technician was incompetent. Now my KitchenAid freezer has stopped working. I’m in a quandary, should I give them a second chance? Should I try one of the other repair companies that also have very mixed reviews? I’ll update this if I give them another chance and they show any signs of competence. I might call the owner first, explain what happened in the past and see what can be done for me.

Up until a few years ago, Jarvis was a great place to buy appliances. The staff was friendly and courteous and they always had a price that was reasonably lower than anyone else. Times have changed and so has Jarvis. You have to remember that the area has changed as well. What was once an area of farmlands and pastures is now McMansions and developments. The residents in the area are now wealthier, busier, and less friendly. And so Jarvis has evolved into a company that caters to this type of demographic. The sales people are snobby and they charge the same prices as every other retailer (Best Buy, Sears, etc). It requires a ton of haggling to get a better price. They know their competition and they will "beat" their prices by pennies only. The Jarvis prices on extended warranties are no different than any other place. Some of the sales people will give you a break on the extended warranty if you beg. Don’t even try to negotiate a deal with “Bob”. He wont budge no matter what. In these tough times, you want to see an ounce of respect from a company like this. Instead, they kick you in the head with their prices and attitude and then they laugh at you with their extended service policies. If you walk in wearing Prada shoes, they will treat you with tea and crumpets. Oh, they really want that kind of customer. Go in wearing jeans and a sweatshirt and they look down their nose at you as if they know you are a sucker. So instead, go in with armor and sword knowing that this will be like buying a used car. You can’t win. The only positive to Jarvis these days is that there delivery guys speak English and they seem to be much more careful while delivering the appliances for which you paid too much.

True Customer Service I bought a dishwasher from them about two years ago, because I wanted the people I bought it from to be the same organization that installed it. The salespeople are low pressure, but extremely helpful. Installation was FAST and painless. Last weekend I opened my freezer to find a frozen waterfall where my icemaker was supposed to be. I did a little bit of research, and headed over, and went ahead and replaced the fridge, stove and microwave, to match the dishwasher. Again, a pleasant sales experience. And they worked with me on delivery. Today Jason and his partner (whose name I unfortunately did not catch) arrived early within the window they provided, always nice. They were pleasant, personable, and funny - despite the fact that it was a 90 degree day with a 109 degree heat index. They hustled everything in and out, carefully and quickly. But heres where they earned that fifth star. The back of the microwave was damaged. Damaged in a place I would never have known, and from the way it looked to me, probably would not have affected the operation of the unit. But they stopped and showed me and said they were calling in for a replacement. Jason wanted to put the old one back, but I told him if he brought my spare stand alone unit up from the basement they didnt have to. Not to throw disparaging remarks, but I have to wonder if the contractors for the hardware store, big box store or department store delivery guys would have done the same. I dont think I would ever consider a big box store again for appliances, and Im happy to support this local business.

Strike 1: Tried to purchased a dish washer, and when we decided which one we wanted, the salesman said we would be happy with another he showed us. We said no thank you. Guess which one he ordered. We refused to take delivery until they ordered the correct one. Strike 2: Called for service, three weeks and four technicians visit later, we called kitchen aid and they referred us to another company that fixed it the next day. Strike 3: Purchased fridge, took it home and hated the look in the kitchen. went back to the store to ask about exchange and we were told no. We purchased "as is no refunds." They had no return policy listed anywhere and when we complained the manager finally said we could with a 30% restocking fee. We balked and decided to write the owner, his response was no excahnge and that we were just bad customers. I try to always buy local when I can, but I think I gave them more than enough chances.

I recently had my refrigerator go out on me. I called Sears because I thought I bought it there. There customer service was horrible, they couldnt get to me until almost a week later. I had no freezer or cold in fridge, all food would be lost. I have a family of 7. I remembered Jarvis. I actually bought the fridg there. Turns out, they were out the SAME day within about 3 hours to fix my fridge. The guy had to even run back for a part. I was ready to buy new fridge, the guy said this will fix it for 300.00. He saved my food and my wallet! My fridge was fixed and running like new. They were awesome. I would buy my appliances there anytime. Thank you Jarvis!
