I have bought books both at the actual location and online. The shop itself is a candy store for bookophiles and I found that a few hours in the store wasnt enough! Books line the shelves, floors and ceilings! It was a great experience. Now, ordering online has been both a good and annoying experience. The pros are that I can search the warehouse for titles and shipping only costs 3.99 for all books. This is so much cheaper than Amazon which charges 3.99 for EACH book. There are many amazing old titles, so if you are looking for new books, make sure you check the year. I have found books for cheap that I cant get anywhere else. The con to this is the extremely slow shipping times. I live about 45 mins away, yet it took more than 10 days to get to my mailbox. It went from Frederick, MD, to two cities in New Jersey, all the way back down to the capital and then to my mailbox! This trip was longer than a book shipped from Texas to MD. I wrote to them about it, but never received a reply. So, dont expect awesome online customer service. Next time, I am going to try the higher cost shipping. Its still better than buying individual books on another site though. Do check out the actual store in Gaithersburg. Its amazing. Oh and one thing to note. A lot of people complain about the money they get back for selling books to WB. There are several local books stores here like Ukazoo who sell books at affordable prices. They will also only give you a small portion of what you think your book is worth. Places like Amazon will give you credit as low as 2.00 on a fairly new book. If youre looking to sell a book, do so by yourself at places like Ebay. You will be disappointed otherwise. Considering most of the books I have bought from WB are no more than 5.00, you cant expect them to give you more than what they can make a profit off of. If you are selling back school books, check out places that buy those books back. These places probably wont give you very much either due to the fact that new editions are released almost every year, rendering the old ones obsolete.

My family and I stopped in this store this afternoon, and the selection was amazing. They have everything from comics, reference books, fiction and literature, horror, and biography. They even have a lengthy childrens section complete with a collection of little gold books. I was particularly impressed by their large selection of graphic novels. My husband was thrilled by the amount of variety they offer with their vhs, DVD, and record selection. What we were not thrilled by was the blatantly rude way that we were treated by the attendant at the checkout counter. Isaac, who apparently is in training, is seriously lacking in his person to person demeanor. As soon as I walked up to the counter, and placed my selection on it he noticed I had a trio of graphic novels to purchase. He immediately began to growl at me about having a social media account for reference. I blankly looked at him and explained that I didnt understand what he was talking about. Apparently there was a buy 2 get 1 free sale on graphic novels but you had to like their Facebook page in order to get it. I had seen several signs about sales around the store, but didnt see anything printed on them that stated it was for social media only. Regardless, I dont have Facebook, and the sale would only have saved me $5 so I wasnt bothered by it. Isaac however continued to mutter under his breath about the account, and how he couldnt give me the sale price even though I had already told him I wasnt bothered. One of his coworkers even noticed his behavior, and apologized for him with a "sorry for being so rude". But, did nothing to chide or reprimand him. After completing my transaction I quickly collected my bag, and politely requested to have a copy of my receipt only to be bluntly and coldly informed by Isaac that it was in my bag. At which point my husband, and I were about to lose our tempers. So sadly despite their large selection and amazing prices we did not find Wonder book & video very wonderful, and we definitely will not be returning customers.

I ordered a Graphic Novel which was described verbatum as "Brand New! Volume 1" but instead it was absolutely a used book in very poor condition. The packaging was in perfect condition, indicating this occured prior to shipment. The seller knowingly sent this damaged item but posted it as "Brand New! Volume 1" thinking no one would have the resolve to find every possible post and spread the word about "Wonder Book & Video." I am a US Marine and will relentlessly continue to find every possible review I can post because folks need to know that these slimy people intentionally send you damaged items that are at a low cost but confidant that victims will not make a big stink over it. But thats their scam and thats where they get their name from...as in "I wonder what condition my item will be in that package?" and "I wonder if they will ever respond to my return request." The worst was not the fact that they scammed me, the worst is how they will not respond and just blow it off. Not on my watch. If I know someone is stealing from hard working people I will do everything to stop them. I already called Visa, but that doesnt make up for the wasted time. So I am going to double down, and inform everyone I can about these slimy animals that have no integrity.

This bookstore is constantly rated as one of the top used bookstores in Maryland, on the East Coast, and in America. There’s a simple reason for that—it is. Several of my out of town friends insist on visiting and mailing boxes of books home. All of that being said—it is a used book store. The books before have been used, read, and loved by other people (yikes!, right?). Some of them smell like used books. (Shocking.) The staff can be best described as eccentric. The selection takes some digging and is constantly changing. However they have an excellent mix of best sellers, out of print, obscure, and downright rare and unusual. Prices are generally good, and if you are pleasant to the staff, they will be pleasant back. They also rent movies and buy books. The new releases are sometimes a bit on the expensive side, but you have access to a lot of older titles for cheap. I’ve never sold books to them, but wouldn’t be surprised to discover they don’t pay a fortune, because the books are generally affordable. If everyone ‘could have made so much money online from Amazon’ why didn’t they just sell them there?

Hagerstown - Been there twice before attempting a trade. Ten graphic novels, five single issue completed series, a hard cover Vonnegut, and the entire Narnia seriers in the heavy cardboard sleeve (never read) -- took all of it in to trade for store credit. Chick looked at my offering for less than a minute and offered $8 store credit - $4 cash. I was never so insulted in my life. Her attitude made it worse than it sounds, but her explanation for the dollar amount was - We have a lot of books. She did no research, no price comparison - she just guessed. Unfortunately she guessed wrong. I wasnt looking for hundreds of dollars here, but $8 was enough to turn me off of this place for life. The key to this mom & pop business model is that they respect the customer enough to keep them coming back, keep them trading, and keep their inventory flowing. If youre lucky enough to live close to a Half Priced Books - please go there instead and see what these folks are poorly imitating.
