This place is amazing. My black lab, Teddy, is currently training with Kim to be my service dog. It has been a long process and Ive learned so much about my dog and myself through the process. Dogs are more complex than meets the eye and Kim is very keen on on having the owner/handler understand that. When the dog and the handler hit a stalemate during training she is there for you and your dog as try and creatively figure out the next steps in training. What I recommend is a service dog consultation to discuss your needs and she will give you a few ideas as to which dog group to choose from (she will explain this during your consultation). Service dog training is rigorous in every way possible but with Kim, you can get there. She has extensive experience in working with a variety of disabilities. Scheduling is very easy, too with her assistant, Emily. We, me and Teddy, feel so honored and privileged to have her as our trainer as we progress towards graduation soon as a team.;although, the learning should never stop between a dog and their handler. So what are you waiting for? Bark at The Dog Door team today and schedule your service dog consultation.!

I scheduled a consult with Kim following our adoption of a year old pup with behavior issues. After shelling out 250 bucks for the recommended in-home consult, I didnt feel like I had learned anything more than I knew before - and no training tool place at all in the hour visit. It was almost like she was hesitant to show me anything without a follow up payment/appointment. The secretary then followed up with me recommending 700 more dollars worth of training in order to address some of our issues - and we couldnt be fit into Kims schedule for an appointment for another 6 weeks. We were in a very bad spot with the newly rescued pup, and looking for immediate assistance/ meaningful guidance, which we unfortunately didnt get. I was very disappointed as she came highly recommended, even from my vet. We trained our first dog with a great group in Charlotte, and were quite disappointed with our experience here. There are other very qualified trainers in the area that will give you a free consult on your dogs opportunities before you are asked to drop 1,000 bucks on training.

We happened to walk in this store while in Asheville on vacation. We have a very large Golden Retriever mix and we have had trouble finding things that fit him. I was looking at the harnesses that they sell and I discovered that, as is common, they did not offer the largest size in store. I was disappointed and asked if they had any somewhere else. They did not, but they immediately offered to special order one for me and have it shipped back to Virginia for free. I am thrilled with the purchase, it actually fit my bear sized dog, he loves the design and it has a warranty against chewing. The people who work here are very friendly and really know what they are talking about. They offered me literature on the new harness to read before it arrived at my house and were helpful with other recommendations on what we could buy that would be tough enough to stand up to his chewing. I will definitely be going back here next time I am in Asheville.

Kim has been such an amazing service dog trainer. I have a rare nerve disease and often cannot perform daily tasks. We started working with Kim when my black lab was 4 months old. Now he is almost a year old and can retrieve my cane for me and pick up dropped objects, as well as wear a pack so that I dont have wear a purse. He is well behaved enough to go everywhere with me and we will even be flying together in a few weeks. It is a testament to Kims training methods that in 6 months weve gotten an 80 lb, ten month old lab puppy to help me in so many ways. I would highly recommend The Dog Door for any behavioral issues, training, or service dog training. Kim is an advocate for TRUE service dogs and even offers a program to help businesses be service dog smart. Thanks Dog Door Team!!

I was so impressed with the professionalism of the Dog Door. Kim Brophy was recommended by our vet for our 3 year old mild mannered mega-mutt, Hope, due to alleged aggression issues reported by our kennel. From the initial phone call to schedule an appointment to our 1.5 hour consultation with Kim we were asked intelligent and relevant questions about our dog. Kim observed both Hope and us and made a recommendation for future kenneling. She did not ask for additional meetings but instead asked that we follow-up with her by phone. Her knowledge of dogs was exceptional. She even suggested that our sweet Hope might actually be part Carolina Dog, a more recently recognized breed!

Dear Kim, We very much appreciated your visit and all of the comments and suggestions on how to move forward. Memphis has been and still is quite a handful, and probably by now close to 65 lbs or so. We have made (finally) some progress on the housetraining issues. Not 100%, but quite a bit I think. We were wondering if you know of some obedience training available for him? Weve done this with the Huskies and with Jack, but all when they were puppies. Lynn somebody, out in the parking lot of Candler Vet Office.Others that you know of or would suggest? Do you do it? Let me know please at your convenience. Thank you very much.

I already liked Kim Brophey before I met her, because I had heard her speak on the ways in which breed affects dog behavior. I had also heard that she is the very best behaviorist in WNC, and I tend to agree. She taught us things about our dog that we did not know, and gave us some hard news that we needed to hear, when other behaviorists didnt. She is patient and thorough with her time, attention, and information. We constantly think of taking our other dogs to her to help us sort out each behavior problem because we know she could! I am grateful to her!

We adopted an English Shepard from a second-chance shelter in early July. She had never been socialized and was extremely skittish. We knew she would need a lot of patience and a gentle but firm hand but there were things about our Ally we just didnt understand. After 4 sessions with Kim and her exceptional insight and training suggestions we are all more confident and are achieving our goals. We still have more work to do but Ally is a entirely different dog. I dont know how we could have done it without you. Thanks Kim!!!!

Kim was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I took my Shih-Tzu Lucy to the Dog Door, thinking she had resource guarding issues. But it turns out that her behavior "quirks" were more about our relationship than anything else! Kim gave me some easy tips to help me improve my relationship with my dog - which will help Lucy learn to listen better and eliminate any resource guarding issues. Im really looking forward to the follow-up training at the Dog Door - and ending up with a dog who is as obedient as she is adorable!
