Absolutely Loved it!! We were driving from NY to Orlando with our two daughters, ages 7 & 11, detoured to go to the Consolidated Gold Mine in Dahlonega, Georgia & it was sooo worth the stop! We hadnt planned on being there for as long as we were but our girls were having so much fun, we ended up staying for about 3 hours. During our visit, we toured the mine, despite the fact that I am claustrophobic & was not too sure about going in, but it really wasnt as bad as I thought. (But take a light jacket, it kind of chilly down there, obviously...) We also did the gold panning, (included with the mine tour, or you can purchase separately) which my 7 year old had a little bit of a hard time with so needed some assistance, but still loved it. We also did the gem mining! Which, for our girls, (and us really. :) was the best part) We purchased the $50 gem bucket (definitely enough for four people & worth the money) We ended up with four good sized bags of beautiful gems, (even some rubies & emeralds) and although I was kinda pretty set against having jewelry made with the gems we found before we went) We did end up purchasing a ring to be made for each of our daughters from the gems that we had found when gem mining. The prices were actually very reasonable & the staff was sooo helpful & friendly, and not at all pushy or salesman like, especially Miner Mike & the guy sorting out our gems for us & our tour guide for the mine. (Sorry, Im terrible with names & dont remember what they had said their names were!) They definitely made it a very memorable experience for us & our daughters! Our girls are very excited to receive their rings which will be shipped to us in 3 weeks. The Consolidated mine in Dahlonega, Georgia was definitely something that my girls will remember & will talk about for a very long time & we will very likely do again on our next trip! Thanks again to the staff at The Consolidated Mine! We had an awesome time and cant wait to come back again!

Ill confess that I only decided to go to Consolidated Gold Mine because of the kids and trying to do something fun with them. We decided to go to let the kids pan for gold. So, after going in to survey the place mainly to see if it was wheelchair accessible, we took the family in. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We bought three tokens to let the kids pan and also bought a $30 gem package. We assumed that sifting for gems would be more exciting for them than the panning would. They loved both activities. Having never panned before, Ill say that it was a lot of fun for me to "help" them with also. So, after we got through, I decided that I wanted to tour the mine and as it is not wheelchair friendly (understandably, it is a mine) I only took my older two kids along. The tour was my favorite. "Miner John" was our tour guide and judging by the tour we received, Id say that he was a primary school history teacher because it was awesome! He made it very enjoyable for the kids including hands on demonstrations of what the different techniques of mining near the 1880s and the history of the mine and techniques kept my attention. I know this is a tourist activity but the tour was pretty awesome and Id highly recommend it!

Me and my husband brought our 4 kids up here for theyre spring break and took them on this tour..It is a wonderful tour dont get me wrong..however my 5 year old daughter feel on the tracks head first onto one of theyre gold mining carts they had left there for display. She was bleeding from her nose and her whole nose was swelling and completley black and blue instantly. She was of course screaming and the tour guide continued talking about the tour, never asking if she was okay. I had to interupt him myself and said i need to get her out of here I think she broke her nose...He barely had any reaction and instructed us the way out of the mine. Once back out to the front I told the lady at the register what happened and again, little to know reaction...no offer for 911 call, ice pack NOTHING. They just told me where the ER was. They had no other help for me. Our whole vacation at that point was over..It was not theyre fault she fell and I understand that but theyre lack of caring leads me to say I will never be back..sad to seeing my grandparents are up there..Needless to say enjoy the tour but be careful cause if you get hurt your just out of luck and left with no help.

A MUST DO IF IN THE AREA!! Would give more than 5* if possible. We stayed in Helen, Ga and after googling for a gold mine to visit we decided on consolidated. Its not too far from Helen and so worth going. You will not see nor experience anything better then this tour. It is reasonable and not only gives you a 40 minute tour down inside a real gold mine that can be reopened any time the price of gold rises enough to make it worth the expense to run the mine again, but also you are able to pan for some gold. You come away with a cool keepsake of your gold in a tube. You can also pan for jewels which we did not. A could we spoke to did and showed off a beautiful ring that they had made on a prior trip. The staff is very personable and so very informative. You do have to walk down stairs to get down into the mine in case this present a problem. The panning was easily accessible to all. The best adventure ever - DO NOT MISS IT!!!

WONDERFUL experience with our young children!! After reading the reviews (and having some concerns about negative feedback regarding children) my husband and I decided to visit Consolidated Gold Mine with our 2 1/2 & 5 1/2 year old daughters. We are so glad that we did!! Chris, our guide during the tour of the mine was very informative, and engaged both adults and children during the tour (even taking time out to identify special points of interest for the kids). He, along with other helpful staff, guided us through the gold panning and gem finding process (we opted to purchase the $50 bucket for gem finding and it was loaded with gems in every scoop). Chris was also among the staff on hand to identify the gems found and was very knowledgeable in separating the precious from semi-precious stones. We had a wonderful experience and would definately return to Consolidated Gold Mine!

Did the gold panning and gemstones. Found some beautiful, high quality stones. 1in particular will be made ibto a ring. They valued ay $2,000. to $3,000. as a finished ring.....1lady there has her wedding rings from stones found there. The guys who help show you how to pan, very polite, patient & helpful. Young lady that helped identify the "gemstones" was "Miner Nish" and always had a smile, answered questions. We came back the next day to do more..Saw us walk in, gave a big wave, called out.. "Your back" and took a minute to see what we were going to be doing. Excellent help...Clean.... the jewelry people who cut/mount stones were polite & helpful. Gift shop was not out of line in pricing. Will be back here, will stop in again. DEFINITELY..A MUST VISIT STOP.
