If I could give this store a 0 star rating I would. These stores are absolutely horrible. The dogs that come through these stores do not come from "reputable breeders" or "shelters." These dogs come from "puppy mills." If you do not know what a puppy mill is, you should google it and see the horrible conditions these dogs live in and the situations they go through all because people want "pure bred" dogs. If you want a pure bred dog then contact breed specific rescues, local shelters and reputable breeders. A reputable breeder will typically only breed one female a year and get the parents OFA tested to make sure they are good breeding candidates. But back to the Pet City... it isnt just about where these dogs come from... it is about the conditions of these dogs while they are at Pet City. Some of the dogs looked sickly or maybe the lights in the display cases were just too warm. The display cases or "cubes" were too small for half of the dogs they had on display. They had two larger display cases but 3 dogs who needed the larger case. One of the larger dogs that needed the larger display case was in a small cube with two smaller dogs. The larger dog was playing too rough with the smaller dogs that they were trying to hide but had no where to hide from the larger dog. The bottom of the cubes have a grated flooring so the large dog that was picking on the two smaller ones got his toe nail caught in a hole on the grated flooring and was yelping for help for a good minute or two before someone helped him. I had just told one of the store employees that the larger dog was picking on the two smaller ones and they should probably be separated in which she replied that he couldnt be moved because the larger cube was for the great dane puppy in the front of the store in a special display case. She went to the back room for a second for something else. Then the puppy got his foot stuck and I had to go tell someone in the backroom that their dog was caught and she rudely snapped "we got it." To which I replied, "No I dont think you do have it..." I quickly left before I went off on another store employee. A few other guests of the store saw what my husband and I saw and made similar comments on their conditions and they left as well. It is too bad a few other guests were "blinded" by puppy cuteness. If you dont support them they will eventually be shut down. So for anyone who is reading these reviews... STOP SUPPORTING PET STORES THAT GET THEIR DOGS FROM PUPPY MILLS!!! and DEMAND better conditions for these poor creatures. My next steps are to write our Mayor and City Council to get these stores shut down or to at least force them to get their puppies from the shelter.

Shame on the owners of Pet City and the mall for allowing this store to exist. My Sister , Son and I went in today. There are at least 80 puppies for sale around $2k each in this store. They are kept in small plexi glass boxes, not big enough to allow the puppies to walk in without stepping on one another, about 4-6 puppies per box. They are stepping in their own poop and look depressed and bored, some look sick. My Sister asked to see a puppy and we were told that unless we planned on buying it and taking it home that night we werent allowed to see it. How do you know if you want to make a puppy a life long member of your household if you arent even so much as allowed to see it in person first?! Anyway thats when I mentioned to the employee that I didnt like how the puppies were being kept, that it seemed inhumane, illegal, And it was just depressing. She turned around and walked away! Actions obviously speak louder than words. Truth is. Shes as guilty as the owner and any employee who works there. These puppies are from mills and breeders who shouldnt be breeding more dogs when there are plenty in the shelters who need homes. What they are doing is greedy and irresponsible. Do not support this place!

These reviews should be more about saving a dog, which is exactly how I see it. Yes their living conditions are not ideal, which is the exact reason why we shouldnt let them live in the Pet City conditions. Its also a version of adoption. Are they too expensive...YES! However, these dogs dont deserve living in these conditions or at the local shelter either. Our local shelter is a kill shelter so I guess that is better? I completely understand not supporting puppy mills but it should come down to trying to stop them from ever being developed into a puppy mill. I believe this will come down to city and state law. Getting the city, county and state involved to shut them down entirely. But again, the animals themselves dont deserve any part of the process and saving them into a loving home is what we do. We adopt pets from pet stores and our local shelter. They deserve the best life possible no matter where they come from. So instead of attacking the pet stores maybe we should make a difference and work towards the complete dissolve of puppy mills.

The puppies are not taken care of at all in this store. Their cages ar consistently dirty. There is a lady there with glasses and brown hair who is super rude. She had a puppy out yesterday and when we tried to play with him and inquire the price, she said, well, I am about to put him up, so you need to stop playing with him or make a decision to buy him. How are customers supposed to know if they want to purchase the puppy or not if they dont have adequate time to assess the dog and play with it? Also, Im not sure if this person works there, but she is an elderly lady with an oxygen tank that sits at the desk all time. Not anything wrong with that, but if she works there, she doesnt wear a uniform. The staff is not properly dressed in uniforms and I hate to say it, but not very hygienic. I understand that puppies get yucky, but there is a difference between puppy smell and body odor.

This used to be one of the worst places and saddest places to go to in the mall. I was born and raised in Colorado Springs and have worked in the Chapel Hills Mall before. In the last couple years since the MANAGEMENT and OWNERSHIP has changed it has become a very different place. This staff ACTUALLY CARES about the animals and the cleanliness of the kennels and cages. THANK GOD!!!! I bought a Yellow Labrador from that store and she has been the best dog I have had. I bought a Yellow Labrador from a private breeder and she had so many health problems that I had to put her down at the age of 2 years. My Labrador now is almost 2 years old and I havent had any health problems with her. Thank you so much. I will forever shop with them as long as the conditions stay the same. Very Appreciative!!!

I was there with my daughters and a female employee with no name tag opened the glass door in front of the store by me and was very aggressive with the puppies. A bit later by the front registers, she confronted an employee regarding her dismay in front of many customers and was loud. I spoke to her stating that I heard what she said and she was rude, that the customers do not need to be exposed to that behavior. I honestly will never purchase anything there at this store. I am co corned about the wellbeing and treatment of the animals there. Something needs to be done. And, why do employees not wear name tags...
