Usually a 5 star experience but today I had a pretty bad experience. We had gotten drinks from the same plaza and were planning on browsing and picking up groceries for the weekend. A security guard caught up to me and said I can only drink this in the food court area but not anywhere else in the market. Thats fine. I closed the lid immediately and had every intention of following the no eating/drinking rule and continued to browse. Less than 5 min later, the same security guard told me I had to leave because I have a drink in my hand. I told him I didnt drink it and I wasnt done shopping. He then proceeded to tell me that he was instructed to escort anyone with opened food/drinks to the food court or out, regardless of whether youre eating/drinking it. He said I could leave or go to the food court or leave my drink unattended on one of the counters at the entrance. He also said hed ask the store manager to talk to me. At that point I was fed up with this unreasonable rule when food samples were offered everywhere and this is a frickin supermarket geez. I understand the guy is doing his job but this is by far the most unpleasant shopping experience EvER! This plaza has mostly restaurants and cafes, are you really turning away patrons for having food in your supermarket that sells mostly food?! I dont understand what this rule is meant for and certainly will not stand for this treatment. I have no intention of disrespecting mitsuwas rule but this is taking it too far.

"Onos" was our grocery store to go to when we traveled "North" towards Sacramento. But "Mitsuwa was definitely" the grocery store that we went to when we traveled "South" towards San Jose or the surrounding areas. Getting to this place can be hectic at times with the freeway being congested, especially during commute times. Once you arrive, you face the overcrowded parking lot which can be a challenge. The market shares a parking lot with other commercial businesses and is congested, at least for me, during the noon hour! The market has undergone a "face-lift" to the exterior recently. Once you go inside your overwhelmed at how enormous the store is for its size. To the left, is an "open air" type of restaurant with limited seating and prepares a variety of noodles and other Asian dishes. Navigating the isles youre overwhelmed with the assortment of spices and other essentials for preparation of Asian recipes. I always gravitate towards the "sushi" counter where there are a large combination to choose from which are prepared daily. Of course you cant leave the store without spending a fortune or least the case with me. On trips where we might travel further south we try and stop to pick up lunch and then continue on our way towards our destination. We love this place and is our go to place for anything Asian. Again, like Otos in Sacramento I give this place 4 stars **** because parking is always an issue.

Santouka, Matcha Love, Mochi Cream...can they add anything else to make this place even better? I dont even know but this place is jam packed with everything good! I really only go to Mitsuwa for two things. The first is for hot pot meat. I take hot pot seriously and I dont joke around when it comes to the quality of meat I need to perfect my hot potting experience at home. The numerous times Ive been here to get meat, Ive been happy with the results. The quality of shabu/hotpot meat is superb and you can choose what grade of meat you want. You pay more for the quality but to me its worth the extra couple of bucks. The second, is their snacks and goodies. I love japanese snacks and candies and I know can find them here. For example, green tea kitkats before it blew up and was available everywhere. Why dont I give this place the full 5 stars because this place attracts about as many people waiting for the next iphone release (jk but seriously its so packed) and also parking here is such a complete pain in the ass. I think I make on average like 10 loops before I can find something. IT IS ALWAYS SO CROWDED. Its located in the same plaza as paris baguette, daiso, a bunch of tea shops, and restaurants so it gets super busy. I prefer my grocery shopping experience to be more mellow and relaxing but I cant help coming back here.

I went mitsuwa a lot and usually the experience was good. But today i had the worst experience when i entered the supermarket. Two things happened. First, no place for guest to leave their drink temporarily since they dont allow people bring food and drink in there supermarket. If you ask your guest not to bring the drink into the store, you should have a place ( for example, at the counter) that people can leave the drink while they shopping. Second, the security guy at the entrance was super rude and treat the guests differently. Today when I get into the store, the guy stopped me and told me that I cannot enter because I bring a drink with me. His attitude was very rude. While he talking to me, my husband( entered the supermarket few minutes before me with the drink and no problem) saw me and came out to the entrance. My husband asked me what happened, and the minute that security guy saw him, he didnt say anything and walked away!!! This is not right! How can you treat a woman with that kind of attitude, but stay quite when a tough guy came? Very disappointed!!!

Cute little market specializing in Japanese products and cuisine, Mitsuwa is definitely a gem for people looking for certain things originating from Japan -- Japanese snacks, make up/face care products, ingredients made in Japan, etc. A place like Mitsuwa is uncommon in the Bay Area, so Mitsuwa does very well. Its located near the freeways and in a bustling plaza full of other things to do. Normally I dont come out here because it is a little out of the way for me -- but, a craving for ramen at Santouka will definitely bring me here. If after a savory meal at Santouka, youre craving dessert, just walk over to Matcha Love also in the market and order yourself some creamy ice cream. If the wait at Santouka is too long, you can pass the time shopping in the actual market. For special occasions, theres also an area by the entrance/exit where they sell fancy desserts/cake gift boxes. Right outside of the door, sometimes a little cart can be spotted selling roasted chestnuts!

There should be a Mitsuwa in every major city. It has almost every product you can possibly want and youll never have to shop anywhere else. Besides a supermarket section which can accommodate for every Japanese/non-Japanese customers tastes, it includes a video rental shop, beauty supplies booth, anime/trinket shop, household items department, and a decent food court. Although this food court isnt as big as some other Mitsuwa locations, it consists of 1-2 booths making hot foods and the other sushi/misc. foods. I recommend #22, the katsudon, that is my favorite. For food you would pay $10+ at a restaurant, you can get it for ~$6 including miso soup. A few things to note that the lines are very slow in the supermarket, parking is limited but not impossible to find, bring cash because the food court doesnt accept credit, there is a ATM inside the store, and on most days there is someone selling fresh chest nuts outside.
