Well, apparently Any Water Sports is doing so well with all of your praise they no longer feel quality service or customer satisfaction is required. I have been a rescue diver for over 10 years and although I never thought Id ever wish for SoCal again, my previous experiences in Orange County dive shops puts this place to shame! I took the recommendation of a co-worker, a novice diver, and dropped off my tanks for a hydro and my reg set and dive computer for a checkup before the summer season. My paperwork clearly states that I specifically requested a new battery be put in my Oceanic Pro-Plus computer, as it had been sitting in my dive gear container for over a year. A week later I picked up my gear, paid the $65 dollars (on top of the $100 I already paid for the hydro and fill) and was happily on my way. When I got home (30 miles away) and checked over my gear before repacking it, I noticed my computer was not activating when prompted. I removed the battery (dated 06 00) and checked it on my volt/ohm meter and it read 0.00VDC! That is about as dead as a battery gets folks and they didnt even notice despite my request for them to replace it. FINE! Unhappy and frustrated, I figured Id just drop by the shop on Monday and have them finish what I asked them to do... When I went back in on Monday, I dealt with a second rate clerk named Correy, who seemed wholly disinterested in the fact their lack of detail has now created an inconvenience for me and brought their competence as a service center into serious question. He offered the meager defense that he guessed it "was overlooked". No kidding! Retrieving a "new" battery from the stock shelf in the back he tells me it is $22.50. Youre kidding right? I know for a fact, because I looked it up online when I first discovered it hadnt been replaced as I requested, these Tadiran TL-250 1/2AA 3.6V lithium batteries are available from several retailers for under $6.00 each. I said to him, do I at least get a discount for having to come all the way back here to fix your oversight? His answer, was that he wasnt "making much on batteries", which as I have demonstrated is crap but in otherwords implying... No. They didnt even offer to install it for me while I was there! So, already 3 days longer into this service than I wanted to be, I didnt want to wait longer for a battery if I ordered it myself so I just agreed and paid their extortion. As I did, I told Correy directly that this sale was going to cost them all my return business from here on out. He said he was sorry to hear that, but I contend that if he truly WAS sorry, he would have been appalled that they had missed the battery change to begin with and asking me from the start how they could make this right with me! NOW, for the frosting on this cake... I get home (again a 30 mile drive) and place the "new" $22.50 battery I have just purchased in my computer and start it through its calibration sequence. Upon completion, the computer display goes blank and the "Low Batt" indicator is flashing! I try again, same result. Removing the "new" battery, I check IT on the volt/ohm meter and it has a nominal voltage of 1.76 volts! After all that, to add insult to injury, they sold me a bad worn out battery! Im finding a new dive shop for all my future needs and recommending everyone I encounter who shops there or is even thinking about it to do the same!

HORRIBLE customer service! I bought an underwater camera from these people -- cost me several hundred dollars. I got it to my dive location and the battery died on the first picture I tried to take -- this was after I installed the backup batteries that came with the camera after the first batteries from the box also failed. It was supposedly brand new, but there was sand under the lens cover from someone else. So Im guessing they sold it to someone else who depleted the batteries and then returned it. The store shouldnt have sold me a used camera without telling me it had been used, and they should have made sure the batteries were good, because I saw sharks, rays and turtles, and couldnt take a picture of any of them. I had to rent a camera from the dive boat which was an unexpected expense. So when I got back to San Jose I took the camera back to the store, and they said theyd look after me. Ha! THey said theyd "let" me return the camera BUT they tried to charge me $75 for "renting" it, since I took it underwater. I didnt get to take a SINGLE picture with it and I had no end of frustration, but they still wanted $75. Buyer beware -- these people will take your money, sell you something that doesnt work, and then try to make you pay for it anyway. They knew I was newly certified -- they should have offered me a discount on gear as a gesture of apology, and they would have made money off me. But they are sorely lacking in customer service.

There is no other shop like Anywater in the Bay Area, period. The the service is top notch, and if they promise something, its a guarantee it will be done. If youre a beginner diver, *listen* to what they recommend. It will save you thousands of dollars in the long term. They have a very long experience and theyve seen it all. Do not disregard a valuable free advice. The classroom is spacious and the instruction is thorough and fun. Higher level instructors might travel from Monterey to Anywater for a private class, because Anywater is a great place to bump into best divers in the area, from Monterey to Mendocino. If you an experienced diver and know what you want, its perhaps the only shop in the area to get all what you want, in one place. Make yourself clear, and it will be so. When they service your regulators, they actually breathe them personally to make sure youll have the best performing equipment there is. Im speaking out of my personal experience, and Im diving in Monterey practically every weekend. Last but not least, their banked 32% mix is always 32% and their fills are always meet or exceed my expectations.

I have shopped around online and at a dozen local shops, as I advanced from open water diver up through DM and now technical diving. I keep coming back here. They are thorough and safety conscious, but they will not try to scare or mystify you into overpaying for services or replacing more than you need to. They will not act like O2 cleaning a stage bottle is as complicated and expensive as launching the space shuttle. Instead, they will do it in 30 minutes (if theyre not too busy), for less than the cost of a good lunch, and earn a customer for life. Reasonable questions are met with intelligent answers. I like that a lot. Their prices are fair. The top end stuff is spendy, of course, but many things are competitive with even the online discount places once you figure in the shipping. Add the convenience and -- yes Jason, good service -- and it adds up to a great overall value.
