Seriously, if theyre calling that opening "soft"...Im scared of what their "hard" has to entail. Seeing as I will be investing a lot of time and money in this location, I should probably get ahead of the game and buy their stock now because its about to steal a lot of business from all the surrounding coffee shops. The Italian Process Just how I like it. Come in, order your drink with the barista, get your pastries, then pay at the end. Just like how pumping gas used to be back in the day, if you dont understand that reference, youre too young and you should probably stop reading this. With tender love and care, each drink is made by the person you order it one by one handcrafted with love. Theres no machine, no automatic button, just your barista pouring scolding hot water over your coffee beans and letting it slow drip for every individual cup of coffee that leaves that door. Now thats freakin boss! A Word from the Wise To all you coffee newbies out there, dont get suckered into drinking a "Light Roast" thinking its light in caffeine, its just light in taste. Most of them are actually stronger in caffeine. Very much the opposite of how you would order your beer. So be aware of those "lighter" coffees...you just may end up wasting your entire afternoon in your boss office chatting about how koalas are not actually bears at all but marsupials, which means that their young are born immature and they develop further in the safety of a pouch. Drink more coffee, do stupid things faster and with more energy!

Id heard great things about Philz, so i decided to check out their DTLA location. First of all, their coffee is great. Easily the best as far as chain coffee shops go. Their specialty drinks are unique and totally worth trying, if you havent been there. But i had to dock Philz -2 stars here. The place is LOUD. Louder than a lot of bars Ive been to. It didnt help that they were blaring crappy pop music the entire time. Not exactly a good atmosphere for relaxing or getting work done (a lot of people there were wearing headphones, not surprising). In the future Ill probably stick with the smaller "indie" coffee shops...where the coffee is just as good as Philz, but where you can actually sit down and hear yourself think.

Awesome coffee. Thats all Ive got to say. Ive basically tried all of their specialty coffee from their special menu here. All of them have been exceptional. Also, the service here is great. I really like the Mocha Tesora and Ginger Snaps. The mint mojito is a bit overrated and I do think that sometimes the barista can make it a bit watery than normal. However, nothing beats the taste of fresh mint within your coffee. Coffee here is EXTREMELY strong. Be prepared for a rush of caffeine to your brain and to be completely wired for the next couple of hours. TIP: If you bring your own mug and order a small, they will always fill it full for you!

I paid an impromptu visit here under the advisement of a friend. I ordered the mint mojito with the Ethiopian decaf coffee. I am immediately hooked and bear in mind that Im not a regular coffee drinker. The environment is open and friendly, especially considering that dogs are welcome in the shop. Orders are placed and picked up directly with one of the baristas. Expect about a 10-min wait for your coffee. I noticed that the coffee is made pour-over style, for those who are curious. Havent tried their pastries but the variety and quality looks attractive. Pricey coffee but worth it!

Such a pretencious place! I consider more or less knowledgeable about coffee, and I wasnt sure how to order. Thankfully the staff was helpful for selecting the right coffee blend and preparation style. Since they pretty much only do pour-over coffee, ordering can take a while. However, I was pleasantly surprised to still find a place to work despite how crowded it was. You probably wouldnt be so lucky if you were in a group. I worked for four hours and no one ever bothered me about taking up space. Overall good coffee, ok place to work, and I would definitely go back.

every time i get a chance to visit a philz, i have to stop by and grab a mint mojito iced coffee. the baristas are super friendly and accommodating, and service is quick! this is pretty much an in and out kind of place. theres some seating available for while youre waiting for your drink, but not much to offer if youre trying to get work done. after you order with your barista, go over to the register and let them know what you got so you can pay. and the baristas always make sure to have you taste your drink and see if you like it before you take off. great experience!

Finally! Another one of SFs famous Phillz Coffees in Los ANgeles, this one closer than the Santa Monica location for those of us who live further east. This place has all the normal fixings of Philz, great coffee, great workspace, and a great environment, but also couples in the norms of DTLA, no parking, way too many people, and long lines. Overall, I cant complain about this place because they cant help that theyre on such a busy corner. There is free wifi, clean bathrooms, and a water dispenser, so grab a seat and get some work done while youre here!

This is my first time at Philz and I am hooked! I think its going to deadly that its so close to my school... This place really lived up to its hype. I heard about it SF and I heard about it in Santa Monica but I never had the time to try it! The barista that helped me was nice also! She helped explain the whole menu to me and told me their mint mojito was their best seller! OMG... I can see why! The coffee tasted so good that it made Starbucks coffee taste like dirt now to me. Who would ever thought mint and coffee would go so well together?

I love Philz Coffee! I honestly havent had any other thing on the menu than the Mint Mojito so my opinion might be biased. But I love and enjoy their mint mojito so much I dont think Ill ever even want to try anything else here. They hand brew all your coffee right as you order so expect your coffee to be fresh! Also if it doesnt match to your taste liking, you can sip it right in front of them and then let them know what you would like customized to your drink. The service is great here and the baristas are pretty awesome too.

Youll see the good reviews for a reason. The parking here is...not good but you will frequently see people risk their cars by pulling up to the curb and flashing their emergency lights while they run in. If you do this, order before through cavier. Its the only to-go service they work through and they dont deliver. Pro tip - if you bring in your own coffee cup, theyll use it, fill it up (more coffee! ) and give you a dollar discount.

I went here after walking from Whole Foods on a Sunday afternoon. They had a bit of line but they move fast. You order first then pay then wait until they call your name. The line will not move unless the server is done making your drink. I had the Chamomile tea with ice, I like it since its not too sweet even though they put honey already. I would go back to try their other tea drinks.
