Thistle Roses

If you need a bike. Go here. These folks are friendly, down to earth, and all about getting you on a bike that works for you. They are unabashedly all about increasing cycling safely and with joy. I have never felt judged here. They take amazing care of everyone from the barest beginner, to the hobby bike builder, to those seeking burner bikes, to the professional racing cyclist. And each purchase funds their programs to spread their love and knowledge of cycling and bicycle building and repair. They sell mostly refurbished bikes from donation at extremely reasonable prices. But you can also get lights, parts, gloves, and helmets here. They have welcoming and useful classes, earn a bike program for kids, and open workshop times for a small fee so folks can use tools and someone is there for advice. Cannot recommend enough. I have gotten a commuting bike here and 2 bikes for Burning Man that have gone and come back strong. They also give me advice and teach me something every time I come in. This place is good for community, product, and customers. Best use of your money. Go. Here.

Here is a short story about BikeWorks. Our son, several years ago when he was in 9th or 10th grade, found BikeWorks when he decided that he wanted to learn about bikes. He was technically too old for their Earn-A-Bike program and he was fortunate that he already had one. Still, he joined the program with the younger kids, volunteering his time in exchange for the knowledge. He used that experience to get hired at a well-known Seattle bike shop where he continued his learning through high school. This summer, when jobs for young adults (he is 21) are so difficult to find, he turned down 3 separate bike shop jobs (and several other outdoor stores) to spend the summer doing "BikeWorks" style work leading at-risk kids from DC in outdoor experiences in the Wyoming wilderness. It does not matter where you are in the equation, BikeWorks rocks!

I loved the selection of used parts! Can not be beat, even on ebay or craigs list. Instead of paying $50 or more for a new chainring, I paid $5 for a slighly used one (50t w 130mm bolt pattern...not usual). While I was looking through the hundreds (of well oragnized) chainrings, a lady came in with her kid to drop off a bike to have training wheels installed. The mechanic told her it should only take 5 minutes if she could wait. That was super cool. Now, if I could just find an automotive repair shop half as customer oriented...

Had an absolutely wonderful experience here. I came in looking for a particular bike for my large size and they gave me an array of options to try out and even took some bikes out of their storage for me. Even though I didnt make a purchase at the end, all of the staff were helpful, polite and enthusiastic. If youre looking for a great LBS that is truly community focused (they are a non-profit), then I highly recommend this humble shop to all riders with all needs and experience levels.

A really fabulous organization with deep roots in the community. Theyve offered professional wrenching, quality bikes, education and support since 1996. On the retail side, I especially like that they sell used bikes, bike parts and tools.
