Let me just start this review by saying that Ive never been so happy about the smell of fish in my entire life. As a transplant from San Diego, I was really worried that I wouldnt be able to find an Asian grocery store that had not just the pantry items I needed, but also a good selection of fresh fish and meats. Grand Mart International has all the bases covered and so much more! The stock is primarily Korean, but has a good selection of other cultures, including Filipino and Thai, as well as a wide selection of Hispanic groceries as well. The produce section is hit or miss, but they do stock items that I would not find anywhere else such as shitake and oyster mushrooms, lemon grass, bitter melon, taro... and my husbands favorite *ripe* plantains. (Not just the green ones, but the tender yellow ones too!) Seafood selection is great, very fresh looking, and not bad prices. Shrimp with the head on ran $3.99/pound when I was there. As far as meat goes, they also have a wide selection of items, ranging from thinly sliced rib eye for shabu-shabu to fresh goat. Their fresh pastries located at the front are shipped in from Bread Garden in Newport News. The Castella cake is my personal favorite. Another thing I like about this place is the selection of beverages and treats. They have two flavors of Calpico (original and lychee), as well as Young Coconut Juice and Aloe Vera juice. Treats include your standard shrimp chips, to Filipino Polvorone, Chu-Hi, and giant boxes of Pocky. Staff is helpful, and speaks English well. Oh, and did I mention they sell Kimchee by the buckets?

CONS: Not very clean. Fish smell in first half of store. Lots of fruits and vegetables have gone bad but are still sitting on the shelves like someones going to buy that crap. Lacking in the cheese and dairy department. Need fresh parmesan? Not here! Cheddar is, though. PROS: Has a huge selection of fruits, vegetables, and international pre-packaged foods available. Selection ranges: American, Hispanic, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, etc. So if you are looking to make some kind of exotic dish that calls for Jujubes, lemongrass, prickly pears, fennel, leeks, rambutan, 101 kinds of mushrooms and all other crazy manner of ingredients or spices, you will likely find it here. Many ethnicities are catered to. I would still return here if I want to make something with less common ingredients because at least I know I will have a very high chance of finding it at this store. Much better than running around to three different stores just to obtain five different items not considered staples in American cuisine. P.S. Rambutan is very tasty. Here it was for sale for four a pound. At one of my local Kroger in Richmond, they would carry this fruit during a couple summer months and sell it for ten a pound. No thank you!

Great selection, great prices. Dont be put off by the fact that the place is both massive & not florescent tube sterile like so many grocery stores. This store holds many treasures for those simply dabbling in international cuisine as well as those seeking flavors of a far off homeland. Their produce selection & prices are arguably the best around if you know what youre looking for. I dont think they are terribly competitive when it comes to some "conventional, American" products that you could find anywhere in the contiguous 48, but Ive seen some amazing deals & when it comes to fresh produce & foodstuffs from abroad the options are dizzying. The meat & seafood department is huge & the staff are super helpful. Come in with a few hours to meander, browse & stay for a bite to eat at the café in the rear of the store. With foods from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, even Europe youll find something to intrigue even the pickiest of eaters. You really need to be adventurous & take advantage of the charms & great benefit to our Tidewater foodways that is the Grand Mart.

This time is the third time I found out the cashier overcharged me. It was a Korean lady for the past two times. Today is a different older Korean lady. I bought total 20 items, it shows 27 items on my receipt. I found out right away, she said that she made a mistake, would return my money. When I told her you guys should not make this kind mistake again and again, she started getting mad and the cashier next to her, another Korean lady jumped in, saying you can leave otherwise she would call the police. The manager came on time and apologized, decided to give me $5 discount for todays purchase. some customers even say this is in America, not South Korea, dont steal your customers money by overcharging. lol! I have decided never shop at the GRANT MART again. You can shop at the places like Asian Grocery and Chinese America Market and farmers market in Virginia Beach.

First time going into an asian store in a new place. I went with an open mind expecting more asian produce, but I didnt come out with a lot of fruits and veggie. It had a select few of real authentic asian veggie, but most can be found at the regular grocery store, but they do have an abundant of yams, potatoes. I got myself some fresh fish, shrimp and octopus. Big catch for me. Good selection of rice but I didnt see the deer jasmine rice. Good selections of spices and flour. A+ for that? During checkout, made sure you look at the screen to see what they scan so they wont charge you. I would come back again just because they have good selections of goodies, up but of course everyone wants more.

I really love this place. The priceing of items are fair. The eatery in the back corner is good food for great prices. I spend good money there. However I am starting to think they follow me around the store. One of the Asian male employee follow me around. Then had balls to bump into me with out saying anything. No apologies. Its as if he wanting me to drop something. Im retired military plus I Uber and my wife make good money. We dont have to steal anything. I dont know if I want to go back there or not. The next time he does this. I will stop and ask him to stop following me. I have every receipt for any and every item I purchased there. Im making every effort not to make it a race thing.

I just left there and I dont plan to return. I purchased shrimp for $5.99 /lb. When they rang me up, they charged me $8.99/lb. When I questioned this and then tried to explain to the register clerk that the price was wrong the manager on duty snatched my receipr told her to refund me and hurried me out of the store. When I tried to explain and show the clerk which bin I got the shrimp out of, which was clearly labeled $5.99/lb, she called me a liar!! Both she and her manager were rude and obnoxious. From the way they rushed me out, this makes me wonder if all customers are being over charged and I just happened to call them out on it.

Im not used to this type of a market, but compared to a decent Kroger, it rates low. Yes, it had cool foreign versions of things/large selection, but the quality level was inconsistent. The blueberries had white clumps of molds on them, bananas were very green and bruised, and the kiwi I did buy lacked in taste other than a sour taste. There was almost no one around (aisles) to help me find something...when I did get some help, it was decent (straightforward, not friendly but not rude). Oh and aside from the produce section being on the cheap side, I found their prices to be average if not more expensive.
