My review is probably different than most reviews as it comes from a very different perspective than most consumers. I have known Canyon Bicycles for a long time. I even used to work there 20 plus years ago when they first opened. Since then I have worked at several other bike shops as well as several corporate jobs in the industry. A little over a year ago I took on an opportunity to manage and eventually become the owner of another shop in town that would have been a competitor to Canyon Bicycles. I quickly learned that the bike shop biz is a very hard one that requires a lot to be successful. In the process of it all i also realized that you can never make everyone happy every time but you can at least try. I also learned what is required to be successful. It requires a lot of risk, sacrifice, a great staff, true involvement in the community, an owner that is fully invested in the success of the shop and it requires making money. In the end i decided not to buy the other shop and moved on in my career. I wish my old shop the best but when I left i decided to go check out some of the other shops that i had been competing with. One shop that I walked into which is recognized as one of the best shops in town was the most horrible experience i have had at almost any business ever. I wont say names but i was blown away that an owner could be so rude to someone in their shop. It honestly made me feel really good about what I had done with my shop. I also went to a few others that seemed to be run pretty similarly to what I had left and i just hoped they would all make it as I now knew how hard of a business it was. Then I went into Canyon Bicycles. It had been probably 10 years since I had really been in and i had heard old customers of mine that had bagged on them when they came to visit me. Maybe it was just lip service to me needless to say I didnt expect anything special when i went in. Man were they wrong. it must have been lip service. I was very impressed. The staff is very friendly, they had great mechanics on staff. They are a well oiled machine for a bike shop. Now are they perfect? Of course not! But after what I have seen they are by far the best shop in town. You can tell that Mike the owner is very involved with the business and that he cares. He is extremely busy but still tries very hard to be involved in the cycling community. He has great staff who are not perfect but try hard to take care of anything you need. He is also giving many young kids; just like he gave me, the opportunity to work around bikes and teaching them how to work. He expects a lot of his employees and it shows. In the end, I have been back many times and have enjoyed it so much that I have even decided to ride with their racing club. My kids are now riding as a part of their Jr Devo program too. I cant say enough good things about Canyon Bicycles and I am glad to be back after almost 20 years not as a racer or as an employee but just as a loyal customer. Sorry for the novel but they deserve it.

so I blow out the derailer on my DB.I call up cannon and they tell me they have the part and can fix me. I get there and here is what I get. oh were sorry we did not mean we could do it now, I dont know if we have the part but, I can cut your chain and get you moving on your way still youll have to come back to get the chain and part put on. oh, ok I say well that will have to do thanks. so they cut chain take off derailer and cash me out (paid for parts in advance) then after head mechanic(Eddie) says take it easy though , ok I replied. so about 300 ft from shop it starts to shift on its own, so I ride around for 5 min or so everything seems ok.so I head to catch my train on the way screws start falling out of sprocket, wow!! really?well I call, and (Eddie)gets on the line. I explain what is going on and he has the nerve to start blaming my bike, saying well you dragged it in here,we did what we could do and your bike is not a very good bike.,what? are you kidding me?because I dont have a 3000 dollar bike that gives you the right to do crummy work? his reply, well I should not have cut your chain in the first place, wow Im blown away at the attitude and arrogance of this guy. so after some back and forth he says hes coming to me.well Im catching a train and cannot wait for him to redo my piece of junk bike, $500 dollar piece of junk I should say. Anyway enough already. no I would not ever, ever take my bike or buy anything from them. go somewhere else if you can, if not then bite the bullet for a min and wait till you can, please. a very unhappy customer. so next day, afternoon I go out to my garage to see if I can put the screws back in,and get my bike going so I have a way to get back to cannon. but,not to my surprise, hey they are striped! that explains why they fell out. the guy who worked on my bike stripped the sprocket screws. this is quickly becoming a small claims issue. Ive read the reviews and I am very surprised at them. I have no doubt that if I had taken a specialized bike in that I would have been treated with more respect. so pissed right now,and to boot I have not even heard back from the caring owner on this matter. this is a very serious problem in a business. well they are closed today so I will be calling the owner tomorrow to see how he will remedy this travesty of customer service. I will return and let you know how this drama in my life has worked itself out. sorry for the crummy Grammer I hate to write. A very unhappy customer.I also would like to add, when I called Eddie the head tech he had the audacity to say you cannot use the shifter as if Im an idiot that cannot understand that he just cut my chain making it a fixed gear bike momentarily. So in short I was treated poorly, judged, lied to,put in danger, and talked down to. no respect!!

I do not usually write reviews but today I must. My wife is wheelchair bound and her chair has needed new tires for some time. I finally ordered a new pair and received them through the mail today. I was very excited to put on the tires. I have fixed many bike tires in my life and thought this should be easy. Her wheelchair has a solid core tubes instead of a inter tube, and it was anything but easy. After removing the old tires and spending a few hours wrestling the new ones I realized I was not able to get them on the rim without destroying them in the process. I needed help, so I ran down the street to the bike shop closest to our home. I went in carrying the rims, cores and tires showed the mechanics who quickly told me how difficult it is to do and said it would be extremely expensive if they could, but they were not interested in giving it a try for any amount of money. They said try a motorcycle shop. We went to a motorcycle shop they said they did not have the tools that would fit a tire that small. But they said go try Canyon Bicycle Shop in Draper on 12300 south. I said I’ve already been to a different bicycle shop in the area and they couldn’t help us. The gentleman said I know but Canyon Cycle in Draper is better. So, here we are a couple that needs help with a wheelchair entering another bike shop. Talk about feeling a little out of place, and we are asking for help with something that is hard to do and it’s not a bike. We could see a young man named Derek Jensen working on a bike in the back. He was very pleasant and asked if he could help us. I showed him the parts and explained that I couldn’t fix it. He put down what he was doing and said can I look at them for a minute. He put the parts on his workbench, grabbed some special tools and a few minutes later we were back in business, I could not believe it. He happily and willingly helped us as we watched. He was very reasonable on the charge, and as we headed out the door to the car he said let me help you get your parts to the car. What a wonderful experience, what a great guy, and what an asset to this business. I can see why this business has a good reputation it has good people. If there is such a thing as Karma Derek should be getting some good karma coming his way. Thanks again.
