I had high expectations for this place after reading reviews and positive referrals from friends. I needed a new bike - fast. A friend and I have been riding tons a miles (just did the Huntsman 140 a few days ago) because we are in training for Lotoja. It turns out that the frame of my old bike was too small, and was causing some stress on my knees and back. I went in to be sized for a new bike, and honestly was planning on buying a new bike from them. Maybe I just hit them on a bad day, but the guy working there was miserably unhelpful. He wouldnt take measurements to fit me properly, and basically just said to just "try out some bikes and see what feels good". I had the strong sense that he assumed that I just wasnt a serious biker (is it because I am female??) and treated me with disregard. The first bike he pulled down was a heavy titanium bike, and when I realized it I told him that no- I needed a carbon bike, and he looked at me in disgust and said with snark "I asked you what you wanted". Did he? I didnt hear it. So he begrudgingly put that bike back, and pulled out a low end carbon bike. Didnt even take the time to adjust the seat properly before sending me out for a trial ride (it was way too high). I finally decided I had had enough, and left. Bought a beautiful bike later that same day from 2nd Tracks Sports" - the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and I got an originally $9000 bike for $2500 (highest end components, frame, completely loaded). Maybe if you are a guy youll have a better experience with them.

My bike was stolen a little over a year ago. Im 22 years old and luckily, insurance covered the bike. In order to get my insurance to value my stolen bike without an original receipt of purchase, I had to ask a bike shop to add up replacement costs on the bike and parts. I went to several bike shops in the valley and no one would do this for me and then I tried Guthries. They were happy to help and were empathetic to my situation. After adding up replacement costs I had 9k to spend on a new bike so I went shopping. I had 9k in my pocket, yet no one would give me the time of day at the other shops (if they only knew!!!!). Preston, at Guthries was obliged to help me out. He went above and beyond my expectations for service. Since my bike was a custom order, he had to spend a lot of time working with various companies to compile the parts. He kept me informed via phone calls or emails every step of the way. I cannot express how awesome this shops customer service is. I would recommend them over any bike shop in the valley any day. Check em out!!!!

We moved to the Sugar House area a couple of years ago and one of my first goals was to find a neighborhood bike shop that we could get to know really well and feel comfortable with. There were lots of choices but we quickly settled on Guthrie for lots of reasons but primarily because Jeff and Preston and the rest of the crew are friendly and helpful and always willing to take care of whatever want, need or problem you may have. They have a great line of products (Trek, Santa Cruz/Juliana) and their turnaround time on repairs is reasonable and as promised. They also dont blink when you have a request for a special order part and can usually get it within the week. They also love to support local causes and bike related issues and get onboard without hesitation to support the community. Ive learned that local bike shops do more than sell bikes. If you enjoy having a relationship with great people in your neighborhood and supporting them, then this is your kind of shop.

I took two older hybrid bikes in for a tune up. Since the bikes have been sitting for six or so years I knew it would take a bit of work to get them working well again. When I took the bikes in I explained the shifters were stuck, cables needed lube, two flat tires and who knows what else. I asked the young gentleman if they were worth putting money into and I was impressed with his reply (especially since I opened the door for him to sell new bikes) he told me a basic tune up should take care of everything and the worst case scenario would be new shifters at 50 bucks a set. I had them do the tune up. They were completed on time and they were able to just clean and lube the shifters rather than replace. Im very happy with the service and friendly people. But most impressed with their honesty. I highly recommend Guthrie Bicycle.

I decided to give these cats a try. Got a Tallboy with Full XTR at an amazing price through Jay. I asked Jay if he would package the bike up so I could ship it to Texas (moving there). He packaged the bike up and threw in a bunch of free stuff like new "high priced maxxis tires". I never actually saw the bike before purchasing it and it was packaged up before I could look it over.. Once I received the bike in Texas, the fork had a very tiny scratch on the fork stanchion. When I informed Jay of the scratch, he exchanged the fork without questions and a smile on his face. He could have easily blamed it on shipping, but didnt. Freaking great guy!!!! Great bike shop!!! These guys bent over backwards for a customer they knew was moving out of state.. Wow!!! Keep the small guys going and buy from Guthries!!!

I bought a Trek Rumblefish from them last spring. This is a great bicycle. I then took it in for the free tune up that comes with a new bike purchase in the fall. They adjusted the rear derailleur so that within 100 yards of riding the bike the next time I shifted the rear derailleur into the spokes, breaking the derailer off completely and breaking my chain. I took it back to them and they insisted upon charging me to purchase a new derailleur. So not only did they refuse to stand behind the Shimano rear derailleur they sold me which had <200 miles on it but they refused to stand behind their service. I recommend taking your business elsewhere as I paid full price for my bicycle and chose to purchase it at this shop primarily because they are local and would be able to warranty my bicycle.

I just finished my first ride on my new Trek Silque bicycle, purchased at Guthrie Bicycle. I cant say enough good things about the staff, their knowledge of all things bicycle and how well they deal with customers. They fitted my bike perfectly to me, equiped it with everything I needed to ride safely and comfortable. They even showed me, hands on, how to fix a flat tire. So a big shout out to Jeff, the owner and Nick and Max who made buying my bicycle a fun experience. They gave me a great deal on the bike and all the excessories. The selection of bikes is awesome. I will be returning to this shop for all my cycling needs. Thank you Guthrie for a great experience. I HIGHLY recommend Guthrie Bicycle!!!
