I knew this was the artist shop I wanted to go to for one reason. Bloody hell their bathroom was sparkling and clean. If you can keep your bathroom clean, it says a lot about character and devotion. Theyre sanitary, safe and use only the best products (at least, thats what I think). Josh and Mike (the two artists currently at the shop) are some of the coolest guys Ive met. They both hold very different and complementary skills. Mikes lettering and his insight to what the customer wants in their art is his best talent. He was also the artist I spent my time with. Josh is very skilled and maybe the quickest artist Ive ever met and he doesnt miss a single detail from the work Ive seen. He did a half-sleeve Kraken/Ship scene in two hours and it was immaculate. Both of their works inspire confidence and make you want to be around them. Theyre funny and opine on everything. And they should cause its there damn shop and they are the artists. Were just canvases. We give the initial idea, they give the art to us. I wasnt very specific with what I wanted and they sat there for some time flushing out my ideas and throwing out their own - many of which I took into the final product. After the fact, they gave me all the after care I would need - bandages, soaps and lotions. Enough to last throughout the whole healing process. Heres an even cooler thing - theyre expanding. I believe the renovation started a week ago and should be completed already. They have doubled the size of their shop and I cant wait to check it out. I want to take a minute to negate the negative 1 star review posted here. As stated earlier, the artists both have an opinion and they WILL voice it. I think any good artist should. If youre idea is not the best they would know. This art involves a lot of trust and if the artist cant tell me why my idea is flawed, how can I trust them to work on me? And if they think your idea is stupid, they wont help you. Theyre a business but one new customer wont really affect them if it goes against what they think is right. They also really care about what youre putting on your body. A 17 year old called in and tried to get an appointment and they quickly turned them down. Another lady walked in with an idea of a color she wanted and Josh was the first to say that it wont look good and it was a bad (maybe he even said stupid) idea. To me, being this is them caring about their craft and their customers. But hey, maybe I just blindly trust these guys too much because I would walk in here and say, "give me a new tattoo" and close my eyes and trust them to give me something that I will appreciate. One hundred percent recommended. There is not other shop I will go to in the Dallas area.

BEST EXPERIENCE FOR THE TATTOO VIRGIN! First of all, so sorry it took me so long to write this review! I got a tattoo from Josh on Wednesday, June 1st. The place is beyond what I was expecting. Clean doesnt cut it - its so eclectic and welcoming. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Josh and was immediately told that I wasnt allowed to be so formal and call anyone sir. ;) Always a good sign. While I was filling out consent forms (which are on tablets - how sick is that?) the guys graciously gave me a bottle of water (Fiji!) and let me do my thing. Now if you are any type of closed minded the guys might offend you with their language and frankness, I guess. Its no different than bar talk, or listen to a rock band/concert, or being on Tumblr, or any gaming chat. If any of these things offends you then maybe a tattoo parlor isnt a place you should be anyway. Now, let me tell you. I worried for months about getting a tattoo because I was worried Id pull a Phoebe Buffay and walk away with a tiny black freckle because I couldnt handle the pain. Josh was totally cool and was gracious enough to be patient with me even though I was beyond nervous. If any of the untatted are looking at the reviews, let me put your fears to rest. It burns, but nothing like being stuck with a needle or stepping on a sticker. Its really no big deal. I even looked at Josh after he started and asked "Are you freaking kidding me? Thats it?" It was a piece of cake - for the most part! He never told me I was being a baby, but was totally mellow the whole time. It was over in 60 seconds. Quite literally. I got a tiny tattoo on my wrist that said Carpe Diem in Tolkien dwarvish runes, but I was not expecting it to be over in literally one minute! I heard that being as J. Hall and Co was well known theyd be pricey. I was prepared with my budget, but he charged me way less than I planned! Which Ive already rolled into my tattoo sleeve I plan on getting next June! You have to put a $100 down in deposit, but think of it as a bonus FOR YOU because it makes you really unable to chicken out. Im glad I put money down before or I might have had second thoughts. Its healing great and still looks AWESOME! I am so beyond pleased with J. Hall and Co! Its the only place I plan to go from now on. Ive already talked my brother and aunt into coming to get tattoos with me next June. We will SOOO be there. ;) Dont hesitate. Go to J. Hall and get that tattoo!

After seeing this shop ranked in an article featuring the best shops in Texas I knew I had to visit on my next trip to Dallas. I began communicating with the shop via Facebook message to determine if they could squeeze me in on such short notice. By my first night in town, a Friday, I had been offered a quick slot for that evening. After running it by my hosts (my dad and his better half who reside in Dallas) they rebuffed the idea based on the location. An appointment for 12pm Saturday was offered instead. After arriving at the location it was nothing like my parents thought it would be. Apparently the location may have a not-so-savory reputation with locals who spend a little more time up-town, do not let this dissuade you. The area is in the throes of renovation and revitalization, not to mention being within sight of the police station should quell any major concerns you have with the neighborhood. We were immediately greeted by the proprietor Josh Hall and ushered into a clean, well-maintained, barber-shop-feeling facility. He quickly and kindly sorted out my wishes and sketched up a guide and made a stencil, all the while kindly answering questions for my noob parents. His work was quick, clean, and comfortable. I really appreciated the volume of music being low, it made it easy to talk and visit both with my parents and with the artist. Its common at shops in my area for the music to be so loud you have to strain to be heard..and not at all unheard of to have staff turn the music up almost to shut you up. There was no such vibe at J. Hall & Co. While the prices were about double what most shops in my area run, I would not hesitate to have more work done at this facility and fully intend to recommend it to all my friends in the DFW region. The real stamp of approval came from my conservative, affluent, clean-cut parents observing that if they were "the kind of person interested in tattoos" they would absolutely go back to that shop. We were all impressed and I cannot wait for my next trip to Dallas to go back with bigger plans in mind.
