I bought two kayaks from this store based off of the employees recommendation. I explained the amount of weight that would be on the Kayak, due to fishing equipment, the cooler, and of course myself, and the employ said that this kayak was good to go for way more than the amount of weight I described and I would be more than happy to have the pelican kayak instead of the other kayak that I was looking at for only $100.00 more. I decided to buy what the employee recommended and it was a complete disaster. As soon as I got in the kayak, the pelican was already almost taking on water and flipped upon the first small amount of turbulence. I lost my fishing gear, paddle, wedding ring, and other odd and ends, but Academy Sports said that they could not exchange my kayak for a more suitable kayak due to it having touched the water. I could have lied and said that I never got in the water with it, but because I was honest they could not exchange it. Once I contacted their corporate office, their solution was to offer a one time 10% off coupon. I explained that I was trying to upgrade and showed their was absolutely no damage to the kayak and this did not change their mind. Bottom line is that the staff is inefficient to suggest any product, and their customer service is terrible. I am not asking you to boycott Academy Sports, but I would suggest going to any other store for your outdoor needs. Bass Pro Shop is just a drive a fifteen minute drive away from this location and have never had any trouble with their customer service!

Finally took my first trip to Academy. I went there looking for an exercise bike and shoes. Found associate who seemed helpful. He went to the back to check on something and we waited 15 minutes and he never returned so we didnt get our answer to our question in regards to the bike. We then headed to the shoe department and 4 associates were gathered around chit chatting and never greeted nor asked if they could help in anyway. Not a very good first impression and who knows if I will ever venture into this store again. *************** Update: Went back a few days later and ended up buying the stationary bike. The young man that helped was very much into customer service. The price of the bike had changed but he was willing to honor the price of when we first came in. This store redeemed itself. My only wish is for more of their employees took pride in their jobs as the man that helped us on the second visit. Ive updated from two stars to three based on overall experience. My second visit was a five star visit.

I dont normally go to Academy just got the fact that I would always leave broke. Not due to high prices but bc I would want to buy everything, lol. But, this time was different. I went in looking for a new firearm, and as I walked through the store looking at all the other goodies they had the employees were just extremely pleasant and over all seemed like they wanted to be there without being overly pushy. As I entered the hunting area I was greeted by the man behind the counter, William. I gathered my purchase and as I was filling out the paper work for my new boom stick, my son started to get antsy. And much to my surprise William offer a small promotional ball to my son to help keep him occupied. As a parent of a toddler, I very much appreciate the kindness and helpfulness of William (and the older gentleman he was working with I however didnt catch his name) in the process. Thanks to all for their hard work and pleasentness. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for their equipment for our door fun in the sun.

Went to get disc golf bad and disc. Picked up a starter kit. Priced $24.99. When we went up to the register rang up $64.99. Asked if they would honor the price since it was the only thing on the shelf. The csm or register lead lady told me it was obviously not the right thing even tho the tag said disc starter set on it. Then proceeded to tell me because the item was 4 inches away from the tag and to the right not the left it wasnt the right item so they wouldnt give it to me. After that she looked at one of her Co workers and said would you just got get a printer and fix this price.

I like a big box stores that gives me access to boutique products at a fair consumer price. They are starting to lean towards median products especially with their firearms and they need to escape from that trap. Because having variety is their niche and its what their success is built on. So dont move away from that to try and manipulate the books into a short term high profit quarter. Or suffer the fate of Gander Mountain.

Honestly its just that one I went to. Everytime I go in there if its the same guy in the area he is rude and acts like Im going to steal something. I would mention I wanted to look at one item hand it back and ask to see another and he would just walk off. I have went in there a few times looking to make a purchase and each time just because of him I would just walk out. Like I said its just the one guy at the that location.

Nice selection on everything but racquet sports, but I guess thats not big in this area. Excellent selection for large team sports (baseball, football, volleyball, etc) and a great selection of outdoor goods. Hunting collection rifles and shotguns are good, and a wide selection of pistols. Not a whole lot for sport/competitive shooters that I saw. Staff has been friendly when needed, and gives me space when I want it.

Service is good everywhere in the store except for their shoe department. They dont feel like they should have to help you with anything at all. Every time Ive gone there now Ive had to measure my own childs feet. I feel like if I have to do that then Im better off just measuring them in there and then buying her shoes online. I get a better deal online anyway.

Very unexpected sales associate was rude and continued to be rude in front of my children. Informed the managers who were already aware of the associates behavior and said nothing however they ordered the shoes I needed for my child only to arrive with overnight delivery with the wrong size. I will not be back get it together very unprofessional.

Academy sports isnt exactly beating prices. Nor are they selling cheap/low grade products. However, thats not what keeps bringing me back. Its the service! I baught bikes for the whole family here. The seat broke on one of them weeks later. They literally fixed my bike on the spot free of charge. These people will always have my business!

Nice big store! Good friendly service and reasonable prices. One of the few places I can get some lap swimming gear & competitive swimsuits in winter! Great selection on camping goods. Moderate selection on disc golf goods.

Awesome shopping! Everything from work boots to bicycles. This store has everything! Bar b q grills, smokers, baseball, basketball, hunting, camping, you named it, academy has it! Great clothing selection too!
