Will never consider them, EVER. Having moved to Nashville, you cant help but hear their commercials on every radio station. Because of that, their name is well known among Nashville residents. Around a year and half ago, I was in the market to shop for an engagement ring for my now fiance. I went to Genesis Diamonds in Brentwood just to see what they had. I will admit that Genesis Diamonds is one of the nicer jewelry stores Ive visited and they do have a nice selection (especially with name brand designers). HOWEVER, despite their selection, my fiance wanted a specific Simon G ring. Im not a gemologist or jewelry salesperson but I do know a thing or two about diamond and jewelry. If Im going to drop several thousands of dollars on an item, you bet your butt Im going to do thorough research. The Simon G setting that I was looking at already had a diamond in it and Genesis was asking $13000 for the ring. Simon G settings usually retail around $4000 - $4500 so that means that the diamond itself was going to be $9000. So you must be thinking, for $9000, that diamond must be killer, right? WRONG. This diamond was Radiant shape, slight over 2 carat. The color was a very visible yellow and the clarity was equally bad. Without a diamond scope, I could see a very large feathering (looks similar to a crack) going down the lower left side of the diamond. Because of this, it was easily an I2 - I3. Even a competitors website has a diamond of equal size with better specs for over $1200 cheaper. I asked the representative if I could swap out the diamond and she said I could, but depending on what they have and my expectations, they "could get me any diamond I wanted". HA. Isnt this what they advertised AGAINST in their several month-long radio commercials a few months ago? To make things worse, the diamond was NOT certified (which typically makes the price higher) so there was no way I could look at things like the cut grading, the fluorescence, or girdle, pavillion, or crown. I know that the certificate may not matter to some, but like I said, this isnt a pair of cheap diamonds Im looking to buy. Im looking to buy one as a symbol of my promise & love to my fiance. So I did what any smart person would do and go on the Internet to do more research. FYI, there are very high reputable forums based on diamonds on the Internet that has actual certified gemologists and experts who visit the forums frequently to give advice. On top of that, there are very reputable brick and mortar jewelers who also cater to people shopping for jewelry on the Internet. Many people claim (including myself) that the diamonds that you can obtain from these jewelers rival that of Tiffanys at a fraction of the cost. I can go into the debate of Tiffanys, but to summarize, youre paying a giant amount of money to the brand name. So i ended up getting a custom made ring, to my specifications that beats out anything Simon G could have offered along with a diamond that is one of the best many has ever seen. In addition, I got it graded by a real gemological society and not "other" gemological institute. Genesis, youre not fooling me. You boast better prices and better selection, but your prices are not better and your selection is garbage. Trust me folks, do your research. Would you drop several thousands of dollars on a piece of jewelry without research and comparison shopping? I didnt think so.

Probably the best part of the entire experience was working Melissa when I initially came in. She worked with me to help narrow down the selection to something in my price range and that most accurately defined my fiancé. Like I said, that was the best part. After getting engaged, we had to have the ring sized down (she has small fingers) to a 4.5 which we were told it would take 4-6 weeks and that theyd have to send it off. This is where I will first mention that the ring I purchased was flawed, should not have been available for sale. The stone was at risk of falling out and was only noticed by the customer service rep that took the ring in for sizing. At week 4, we hadnt heard anything so we called in and the ring hadnt even left the store yet. About a week later, my fiancé called in and spoke with Bassel (sic?), the manager of the Cool Springs store, and we found out that the ring had just arrived in California but nothing else could be told about the status or how long it might take. We followed up the next week, and were told that the ring had been shipped overseas, but any information beyond that could not be detailed. At 6 weeks after bringing the ring back in to have it sized, we had no idea where the ring was, when it would be back, or where else it might go before returning. My fiancé has had her ring for all of 6 days at this point out of the 46 days. This obviously upset my fiancé and I since we couldnt do any of the traditional engagement events. My fiancé called Bassel (sic) who, at this point became rather rude and annoyed with our questions. With my fiancé calling me in tears after her discussion with Bassel (sic), we decided that we had had enough, and I immediately called Bassel (sic) asked for a refund (so when you hear the commercials about how theyve never lost a sale to customer service, thats an outright lie). When asked why, I was stupefied. As if anything needed an explanation, Bassel (sic) had been "handling" our sevice since week 3. I was given a full refund and immediately took my money to Shane Co. Come to find out, I would have no way to tell if the stone in the ring was actually the stone I purchased. In fact, I could not even tell you if the ring I purchased was actually a diamond. For anyone reading this, DO NOT GO TO GENESIS!!!!! Despite what you may hear, it is not at all what they try to advertise. I may have spent more time at Shane leaning about what to look for and how to buy, but I most certainly can tell you that I got a better ring, diamond, as well as my fiancés diamond studded wedding band for only $100 more than what I initially spent for just her engagement ring.

Absolutely awful experience. First of all, the salesman lied about the availability of the type of wedding ring I was interested in. I wanted a certain style in 18k gold. He said that was no problem. When the ring arrived however, it was 14k. No notice or mention of this by the salesman. No difference in price he charged than what hed quoted for an 18k ring either. First lie. But Ill get back to that. Another issue: When I ordered the ring, I asked about having a hand inscription done. He said machine engraving was all that they could do. Ok, no problem. I asked if there was anyone else who did hand-engraving in the area. He said, no, youd have to send it to New York to get it done and it cost an arm and a leg compared to machine engraving--there was NO ONE in Tennessee doing it anymore, he said. Well, after investigating further on my own (which simply entailed calling another jewelry store), I was referred to a hand engraver less than an hours drive away from me. I took the original ring Id purchased (14k, still unbeknownst to me) to this engraver. When I told him Genesis Diamonds apparently didnt know of him, he looked taken aback and said hed recently been by there to speak with them and had left them a business card! Second lie by their salespeople. So I had the ring engraved, then realized the store had ordered the WRONG SIZE. (Not my mistake, theirs). They reordered and reimbursed for the engraving. Wedding day is fast approaching. Get the new ring in. Drive back to engraver to get it re-engraved. THEN I notice its 14k, not 18k! At that point, it was too late to order another ring. They offered NO partial refund of any kind for lying about it being 18k, charging me for 18k, yet providing a 14k ring, even when I showed them proof that what theyd ordered didnt match what was received. So bottom line, I would grind my eyes out with a spoon before ever purchasing jewelry there again.
