After spending a week prepping a room for repainting, I was dismayed to notice the caulking I had used on the floor and crown moulding was already cracking after one coat of paint. The person I spoke with at the "help line" of the caulking company said I had used the wrong caulking and should have used silicone caulking instead (the company made both). He said he would send me a case of the other caulking for my trouble. I was very upset at the prospect of having to RE-scrape the new caulking, RE-apply and RE-paint. I called Blackhawk to complain to the salesman who I thought had suggested the caulking. He transfered me to Jim, the store owner. When I told Jim my story, he IMMEDIATELY said they would "make it right". He said he would call and contract with a painter to correct the problem. But, the story doesnt end there. After I hung up, I realized that I had purchased the caulking from a DIFFERENT hardware store. I called that hardware store, and their response was: When you get the new caulking, bring it in and we will refund your money for the caulking you purchased! Shortly afterward, the painter called and we made arrangements for him to come by and repair the caulking. I then called Jim to let him know my situation was not due to any bad advice from the people at Blackhawk, and I would assume the cost of hiring the painter to finish the job. Lesson learned: from hereon out, I will do my business with Blackhawk. They stand by their advice and have yet to steer me wrong.

This store has the best selection of any hardware store I have ever been to. People may say that the prices are a little bit higher but the merchandise is of a much higher quality than other stores and it is worth the prices. Beyond the merch, the store has so many perks to shopping there, like free popcorn when you enter, custom items that you wont find anywhere else in Charlotte, and the best selection of cabinet hardware anywhere in the state. As for customer service, I have read a few of the lesser rated reviews and I must say that they had a very different and rare experience at Blackhawk. I have never met with anyone in the store that was not incredibly helpful, very kind, and directed me to exactly what I was looking for with the best attitude Ive ever encountered in a retail environment. I have been in this store so many times in past months that I am now on a first name basis with a few of them! I moved from Boston to Charlotte and the difference is night and day with the customer service. You always feel attended to and served by the most polite and sometimes incredibly funny people, and Ive stood in the back of the store on more than a few occasions discussing basketball, football or whichever other sport is playing on the flat screen tv above the shipping desk with the employees. Ladies be careful because you can lose a husband in this store for hours, but at least you will be occupied by the incredible selection and fantastic gift ideas.

Ive been in Charlotte, NC x 27 yrs. Hands down Blackhawk Hdwr is my #1 go to hardware store. IF it is difficult to find, IF you have searched everywhere (even Renfrow), and cant find it, chances are that Blackhawk HAS it. IF they dont they will try to get it for you. Ive never gone there and not been greeted kindly or had to hunt for someone to help me look for whatever I was there for. 90% of the folks who work there are more than experienced in DIYer kind of projects or know most of the parts, pieces, knobs, fixtures that go to ANYTHING that has to do with a home. Im a metalsmith, and I will be darned if they dont carry a LOT of the items that I usually send away for to Jewelry suppliers! NO MORE...I didnt know they are open on Sundays now, or Id have been there today...buying solder paste (I bet they carry it). AND, to make a trip there even MORE fun~~go over to their home/kitchen/bar gadgets side of the store! OMG...things I have not seen since a child, new inventions of all varieties and I have seriously spent HOURS there just looking and they never make me feel like Im being scrutinized closely cuz I havent bought anything yet. LOL Next time you really NEED something...take a few hours and browse The Blackhawk. OH, Yeah>>>dont forget the garden area in the warmer months! Thats a whole nuther hour of looking...and BUYING, too.

I do my best to support local business and even though blackhawk hardware tends to more expensive than the big box store near by, but they will never see another dime of my money after my experience today. I have never received what I would call great customer service when shopping at Blackhawk the associates have always seemed very aloof, but today was the straw that broke the camels back. I was looking for a specialty electrical part so I figured would call ahead to see if they had it in stock. Once i was transferred to the electrical dept i was promptly put on hold where I remained for over 5 min. When the store associate finally picked up he just said "YEAH" to which I replied "hey hows your day" his reply? " BUSY..COME ON WHAT DO YOU WANT?". I was the one who waited on hold for over 5 min and was still trying to be friendly, this guy shouldnt have any job that requires him to speak with customers. If Blackhawk Hardware expects me to pay more for something I can easily get less than a mile away they ought to treat their customers better than that! Blackhawk hardware in the Park Road Shopping Center has lost my business for good!

You can get everything at Blackhawk, but the SERVICE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST! They carry good quality inventory too. I needed a screw for a doorknob for my 1941 house, and the 2 gentlemen helping me customized the screw to get it to fit, with no extra charge as usual. This is the typical treatment you get for a $.34 screw or $340 item from any and all employees in this store. You get the feeling that anyone working there enjoys their job. Keys, repairs, filters, plumbing supplies, hardware, tools, yard upkeep, sunglasses/readers, signs, paint, home decorations, lunch boxes, pet items, kitchen items, grills, gifts...you just have to go in to see the selection. You wouldn't think a hardware store is a place to shop for gifts, but they have great stuff! Some items might be priced a bit higher than a box chain, but overall prices are reasonable, and you find many quality items at really good prices. Also they seem to have things other stores don't carry, especially if you have an older home. Long time customers say "If you can't find it at Blackhawk, you probably don't need it!".

Id like to give a good review. Unfortunately based on how I was treated when at the store, Ill can easily say Ill never go back. I came in knowing what I was looking for and where it was located. I was promptly and practically chased down and followed through the store by an employee as I made my way through the store. When I finally made my selection and went to the checkout, I was asked for my ace hardware card or phone number. After giving the phone number I always use at Ace hardware stores - my fathers phone number - I was told I "didnt seem sure that was the right number" and she proceeded to ask for the last name on the account. After giving the name, I was told, "Thats not it, nice try" as if I was intentionally trying to use someone elses account (which even if I was - who cares?). Between being watched throughout the store, the attitude at the counter, and the high prices, Id recommend looking for a Lowes or Home Depot where theyre much less likely to rip you off and be disrespectful.
