Bought a Ba-Shar puppy here on Monday, Memorial Day 2016. I would like to point out the poor little half dead Bernese Mountain Dog puppy in the cage below him. Barely moving, breakfast untouched. He/she should have been isolated and treated immediately. We were told there were no vets on call since it was a holiday. BS. My vet was on call Monday and said she would have gladly went out to look at the dying puppy. Despite all this, we bought the puppy above the sick one. We felt horrible for him, he was cute and playful and so good at the sad puppy eyes. Paid way too much for a "designer" mutt (Basset Hound/Shar Pei). Tuesday, he started acting ill. Coughing, eating grass, puking up his food, diarrhea, lethargy. Wednesday, I took him to my vet for an emergency visit. Good news is, no pneumonia or parvo. Bad news, a pretty nasty parasite called Giardia which comes from feces or contaminated water and kennel cough. The papers we got said hed been there for 30 days. They should have known he was sick, the vomiting and diarrhea didnt happen in a day. Im sure he was showing signs at the store. They should have had him checked out. Fingers crossed we caught everything early enough before severe damage was done. Now, the pet health warranty. They dont bother to mention that you have to mail away for the medical expense reimbursement when they are selling you the puppy. "Bring in the papers from the vet" is what we were told. We did that and were told we have to mail them. The lady at the store made a copy to send to the warranty place so we could keep the original. "This is all you need" I read our paperwork when I got home and according to the warranty, you need a paper from your vet with the diagnosis, signed by them as well. We have a follow up appointment on Wednesday next week to make sure hes all good before sending papers away. Please beware of this store. Im not saying dont buy a puppy from here but make sure you take them in immediately to have them checked out. Early detection is the key to most illnesses. If your puppy doesnt seem to be acting like a puppy (biting, chewing, playing), theres probably something wrong with them Also, we told the lady at the Pet Zone about the terrible reviews from the store. She said people only write reviews when they have something bad to say. I know Ive written several great reviews for places that actually deserve them. Im sure if this store straightened their socks, theyd get some good reviews too. Dear Pet Zone, please take better care of your animals. Remove sick animals from general population immediately. Bring in legitimate, competent veterinarians that care more about animals than money to look after the sick ones. Stop buying from puppy mills. Stop telling your employees to lie just to sell dogs or train the staff appropriately. Update - Monday, June 6th, 2016 my puppy was seen by our vet and was diagnosed with Pneumonia and deemed unfit for sale. We still have him and are planning on keeping him. Its gonna be a long road. Yesterday he was coughing up mucous and today he isnt eating. Looks like its vet visit #3 in the future.

We purchased a Dogue de Bordeaux from here in January. It was love at first sight! We knew of how pet stores were known for selling unhealthy pets, but when we saw Chewy, we couldnt just leave him there. He was meant to be our dog. We sat and played with the puppy for an hour but we became concerned that the dog had something wrong with him because he had crusty mucus around his nose. We decided that we really wanted to make him a part of our family but because of the sickness, we waited a couple hours for the store veterinarian to check him out before purchace. It was a runny nose, a little crusty, but he was playful so when the vet told us he was fit for sale, we took his word on it. 48 hours later, we had to rush him to a Syracuse vet. He was oxating at 80% and he needed to be in an oxygen kennel. The diagnosis? Untreated kennel cough that lead to severe pneumonia. Our dog almost died. We had him for 2 days. Chewy spent 3 days at the vet in isolation. The vet bills totalled over $6000 and after I brought him home, I had to do round the clock nebulizer treatments and cook him special, high protein meals. He couldnt be left alone so he came to work with me so I could take care of him. Now, 6 months later, our dog is 50 lbs smaller than he should be for his breed. The vet says its because of inbreeding. Taking care of the sick dog was not my issue. I understand that I got a dog and any responsibility that follows is on me. Just because he was sick didnt mean I didnt love him any less. We enjoyed bonding with him and taking care of him and we still do! What did bother me was how the manager of this place was completely indifferent when I called her to let her know Chewy was gravely ill. She asked me "well, what do you want US to do about it?" in a snarky tone while I was trying to pull myself together. I asked her what my options were and she responded (snarky again) that we could "just return him and get a different dog" or we could have the original vet, yeah, the one who deemed him fit for sale, take care of him. I asked her what happened when his cost of care exceeded his dollar value and she never answered. The last option was for us to take care of him and they would refund only the purchace price of the dog. Thats the option we took. We could never return him to a place that treated him so badly. We did receive the refund and it did make a small dent in the vet bill. I wouldnt be writing this review had the manager not acted like I inconvenienced her my trying to do right by Chewy. She claimed that they take care of thier dogs but after talking to people about it, I have found out that this senario is extremely common locally. I would shut this place down if I could! Go to a breeder instead! Its not worth the time, money and heartache to buy from this store! I made the mistake of supporting them, please dont follow down my path!

We travel to the thousand islands every summer for a few weeks and happened to take the kids to a movie in the mall one rainy day. While walking around the mall we fell in love with a little maltipoo puppy in pet zone and ended up taking him home. He had a minor cough at the time and we were headed back to NC the following day so we decided to have him checked out when we got home by our vet. Of course, like other reviewers, he had kennel cough and pneumonia and required antibiotics and special care to the tune of a few hundred dollars. We were told they would reimburse us the vet bills and meds for his treatment and we did send in all the paperwork required but never did get reimbursed. A phone call or two never gave us answers of when to get the refund or if they were even planning to. Our vet also looked a little closer at his tail (he doesnt have one) and is pretty sure it was docked by the breeder but was done improperly and cut way too close to his tailbone and most likely caused him pain and suffering at a very young age. Although hes turned out to be a great little dog Id not recommend purchasing a puppy from the pet zone. There are many places that take much better care of their animals as we learned a few weeks ago when we picked up our new to us havanese puppy.
