As I prepare for a 10-day backpacking hike to the Grand Canyon, I came to the store for guidance and to try out equipment. What a gem we found in one of their employees, Nate. This guy had real-time experience, gave us suggestions, tips, product specs and best use of material for both clothing and gear. He spent about an hour answering our (4 of us) questions and showing us products and alternatives. Though lots of the products were cheaper on Amazon, I would buy from this store because of the magnificent service Nate provided us. That type of service is rare these days. He treated us like we were the #1 clients. REI, please give this employee a promotion, accolades or recognition. He clearly demonstrated why REI has competitive advantage.

REI is awesome. They dont have a huge selection but the store is well lit, staff is generally (see exception below) very knowledgeable and helpful and the prices are pretty much in line with their competition. What I DONT like is that they insist on poking holes in every bit of clothing with the tracking tags. I get it but no way am I buying rain gear from them with a hole in it. THEN when I tried to explain it to the staff they not only wouldnt accept my right not to buy rain gear with artificial holes punched into it, they kept nagging me and trying to almost bully me into buying it. Needless to say they lost that sale to a store that didnt punch holes in rain gear.

The store manager Adam does not adhere to the company wide return policy. Taken from Rei Website: 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed We stand behind everything we sell. If you are not satisfied with your REI purchase, you can return it for a replacement or refund within one year of purchase. Adam stated that this is not true and that there has to be something wrong with the product in order to return something. I wasnt satisfied (and the product causing blisters) was not enough for him.

I like this place. The location is right next to the Bergen Town Center off of Route 4. Definitely a good place for the outdoorsy types like myself. They sell all sorts of thing according the season. The selection is not vast in brand names but it definitely have the essential that you need for the love of the outdoors. I also like how this is another option instead of going up Rt 17 to Campmor for my needs. Gives me some extra time for lunch.

I was very excited to have an REI open in Paramus, NJ. Im originally from CO and REI was always my outdoor store of choice. When I walked into REI Paramus I felt like I had been transported into the REI Boulder store. The people were friendly (at least 4 people asked if I needed help) and when I asked question the sales associate was able to answer no problem.

Huge outdoor outfitting store. Good selection of hiking, camping, and biking supplies, though the running slection was nearly non existent. The brands are typically high end like Patagonia and North Face, so prices are high so look for discounts and sales. The staff is fairly friendly and helpful and even helped us box up a purchase for shipping overseas.

Awful customer service and uneducated employees! Overall Id give the employees (not the store) 0 stars if google allowed it. This store needs to hire people who are actually knowledgeable in outdoor gear. Just go to campmor if you are actually looking for information on your gear purchases.

Dont try to make a return if you havent paid to be a member. I came in w proof of purchase, not my receipt, but credit card statement showing the date of purchase, exact amount paid, and location purchased and they refused to accept return. Will go back to Campmor from now on.

Not a bad place to shop for outdoor stuff. Selection isnt huge but decent. Never had much problems finding what I need. Prices are higher than I would prefer but they have enough sales to get something at a good price.
