I live two and a half hours from this dealership but found a vehicle there that I really liked. The price looked great, carfax was clean, didnt see any issues. I contacted them online initially and spoke to Laura many times. It was stressed to me that this dealership will not loose a deal over price which was very reassuring. I had a written offer from a dealership nearby that I shared with Laura and she assured me that Honda of Hackettstown would do at least as good if not better. I sent pictures of my trade, gave her my VIN number, and sent her an actual copy of the other dealerships offer. After three weeks of confirming details and gaining confidence in my decision, I put a deposit on the vehicle and made plans to head to the dealership that weekend. The day before I was to travel, the sales manager Ronnie, called me to again reassure me that I would be taken care of and would be happy with my potential deal and new car. I arrived at the dealership Saturday morning, met Laura and was passed off to my sales rep, Alex. Alex showed my wife and I the vehicle that I had put a deposit on. The car looked perfect until we opened the doors. The inside was filthy and covered with dog hair and dirt, I was told that the vehicles get a quick once over when they arrive and are not detailed until they are sold. Sounded backwards to me but OK. You would have thought that a vehicle that someone puts a deposit on should look good, but maybe they do things differently here. We went on our test drive and then proceeded inside to see the deal. I explained and showed Alex all of my paperwork regarding matching or beating the other offer I had and exactly what I was expecting. He went off to his sales manager and came back with an offer that was nearly $10,000 off from what I was promised would be matched or beat. I explained again exactly what I was told, including emails from Laura, about the deal I would get. We were left to sit at our table for 15 minutes when the sales manager Ronnie came to talk to us. He came to us with an offer that was about $4,000 closer. He offered a lot of apologies, excuses, and blatant lies regarding not having information ahead of time, as to why he was not going to honor what was promised to me so many times over the phone and via email. Classic bait and switch and completely disgusting. It didnt matter that I had all the emails and voice mails, some from him directly, I was two and a half hours from home and completely hung out to dry. Angry, disappointed, and in disbelief I drove home and promised myself that I would make sure as many people as possible knew what kind of dealership this was. I will say that my sales rep, Alex, was very helpful. I could tell he was embarrassed about the situation and he did everything he could to help us, it was just out of his control.

Changing my review from 1 star to 3 stars because Jeff was nice enough to help me out. Thank you. The original review is below. I will start with the pros. The facilities are nice and their policies are impressive. Free oil changes and car wash, and we got the car for a good price. Cons: My wife and I have only been to the dealer twice and both times have not been the greatest experience. Everything was fine buying the car, except for the salesman, Raul, telling my wife every 20 minutes that she was next in line for the sales department. This went on for an hour and a half. I would hate to know how long the person who was second or third in line had to wait. Or Raul was just lying to her and she really wasnt next in line the first 7 times that he told her she was. Then after two weeks I decided to call the dealer to see if the plates had come in as there were some other items I wanted checked on the car. After calling 4 times over 3 days, Raul finally called me back. I asked if the plates were in and if the second key had been made. He told me that everything was ready and to come down. The dealer is 40 minutes out of my way, so I didnt want to go there if everything wasnt ready. When I got there he told me they would make my key and check out the concerns I had with the car and just to pull into the service waiting area. He also showed me where to go to get my plates. Then I didnt see him again. The plates had not come in, so that was a waste of a trip, but I figured at least I would be able to get the key and the car checked. I spoke to someone about what the problem is with the car and went to sit in the waiting area. I sat for two hours before I thought that the car must be done by now. I looked for someone to talk to and noticed my car had been pulled out of the holding area and parked along side of the building. I asked the worker why my car was there and he explained that there must have been a miscommunication. He went to get Jeff, who was very nice, and he said they hadnt looked at the car yet. I was very confused why someone would move the car and not work on it. Jeff tried to do the best he could to get me out of there, but at this time the place was closing. He gave me a loaner and I didnt get home until 3 hours after I normally get home. 3 hours at the dealer and I have nothing to show for it but a loaner car. I assume that this doesnt happen to most people, it is just that we havent had any luck here. Hopefully the free oil changes dont take 3 hours.

After a bad car accident totaled the beloved 2011 Toyota Corolla I had purchased brand new just over two years ago, I suddenly found myself on a surprise quest for a new (used or certified pre-owned) vehicle that took me to just about every reputable car dealership in Northern New Jersey. I was repeatedly leaving dealership after dealership disappointed and empty handed, starting to lose any semblance of hope that Id find something suitable in my price range. Then, I went to Hackettstown Honda and discovered what can only be described as the single most positive used car buying experience a person could dream up. Gus willingness to help and his commitment to good customer service, along with what has proven to be his no B.S. sales pitch guided a smooth purchasing process from the moment I walked through the front doors and into their immaculate showroom until the very second I drove my 2009 Pontiac Vibe hatchback in pristine condition off their lot. They did not treat me as if my business was any less important to them just because I was in the market for a used car instead of something brand new. They did not try to convince me to go out of my price range and finance something newer and more expensive that I could not afford. They respectfully took my wants and needs, as well as my limitations, seriously. Fairness and honesty are not generally traits that I associate with salesmen (especially when it comes to those dealing in used product sales), yet they are the first words that come to mind when I reflect on my experience with the sales department (Gus, in particular) at Hackettstown Honda. The car received my trusted mechanics seal of approval exactly as I purchased it, needing absolutely no extra work. I cant stress enough how highly I would recommend Hackettstown Honda to anyone looking to purchase a new or used vehicle. Hackettstown Honda is a rare car dealership with a top-notch sales department that knows how to do business. To the fine folks at the dealership: Keep up the good work! To the public: Go forth! Give them your business! You wont regret it.
