Nebraska Furniture Mart is huge. The physical size is mind boggling. Then multiply it by the. There is a furniture store, an electronics and appliances store, and a clearance store. We made about four trips of multiple hours each trying to find the perfect couch. We literally sat on hundreds of couches of all prices and qualities. We had been to several other furniture stores in our search and heard about NFM from them. Most of the time, especially from the pricier ones, they referred to it derisively as "The Mart". I find the attitude from those other places as a little high and mighty with a hint of competitive rivalry. Again, this company has mind bogglingly large buildings and product selections. Smaller companies have a very hard time competing with that. Also, many people will see the high end furniture that is so expensive elsewhere compared to the Ashley furniture they find at NFM and think they are getting a much better deal. This is not so, it is a different deal. NFM has their share of $4k plus couches also, they are just in another section. Most of the employees we met were generous and helpful, but they were definitely salesmen. Im not a fan of being pestered about buying the extended warranties, The Guardsman furniture protection package, etc. Also, because of the sheet volume of products, the salesmen are not all as well versed with the very detailed specifics of some items. However, they are generally knowledgeable enough. NFM offers an $80 delivery charge for furniture items. This is per delivery to the same address per person. In other words, if you buy four couches for delivery on the same day (ours took two business days), it will be $80. If you order two couches and your room mate orders two couches with a separate transaction, it will be $160. When the movers arrived, it was two workers and a supervisor. They took a look at where it was going and got it done. Two heavy couches delivered to the basement was money well spent by me. The supervisor also inspected my purchases with me and have a quick learner touchup to any spots. They also offer a military discount which was around 6% for large furniture items, but they said varies for other things so you have to ask. If you are going to buy something that has to be backordered, there is a 25% deposit required. This will be applied to the purchase when you pick it up, but if you change your mind or is non refundable. This is pretty industry standard. All in all, I had no problems with NFM service. If you have problems with the product, remember they distribute the furniture, they dont make it. Ashley furniture is the same quality at every store. I have no experience with how they handle damaged on arrival goods or warranty repairs.

Nebraska Furniture Mart is one of those happy Mom and Pop start up companies that grew up to become a massive business in the Midwest. Unfortunately, the growth is better than their customer service. They are so large they have literally crowded out all the other good furniture stores in the Kansas City area, and in doing so, they have a monopoly on the community. All of their sales people work on comission, so they are eager to help....help move merchandise off the floor and into your house, very little help happens after the sale is "made". I have heard from several friends that they tried to order items from the store with slight changes, like color, or style, etc. and thats when the trouble begins. The orders show up wrong or not complete and trying to get it changed is madness. If you go with the mentality of "what you see is what you get" then you may be okay, but if the item is damaged, wrong style, or in my case, was the wrong item in the box, only to be discovered once I opened the box, that is where your nightmare begins. It is sad because there was a time with the smaller furniture shops, you could get service like it should be, custom colors, styles, and small requests happily honored. Also, none of the sales people seem to be knowledgeable, they just want to sell you something and tell you what you want to hear. Again, you should be the salesman and consumer all in one....be knowledgeable about what you are buying and know what you want. I think they are losing themselves in their size and selection. It has taken me almost a month to get my wrong chair corrected and too much time in my opinion. Also, when you want to talk to the sales rep. after something goes bad to see about getting it right, good luck, they are so nice to talk to you to make the sale on the floor, but once its over and you call again, you will find they are suspiciously "busy" and unavailable to take your call. Most likely trying to sucker the next customer...too bad. Shop with caution, sadly there are no other good stores I can refer you too because NFM has shut them down. Good luck.

Be careful when purchasing from NFM. I have had several bad experiences from scratched and dented furniture to laptops and tablets that didnt work; however, this last experience has been by far the worst due to the large amount of the purchase! My husband and I saved for 2 years (including all the money we received from our wedding) to purchase new carpet for our house after the arrival of our son. We went in and collected color samples to take home and decide. The saleswoman wrote the price and sku on the back of the samples. It turns out one of the skus was incorrect so when we decided and took that sample in to order, the new salesman we were working with didnt double check the number so the wrong carpet was ordered without us knowing. When we went to pick up the carpet, I felt like the color looked lighter but being it was rolled up, the shadow made it appear very similar when compared to my sample. When the carpet was installed I was out of town due to the fact that I did it want my newborn exposed to the dust and dirt from the old carpet as well as the new carpet smell. When I returned home, I realized the carpet was much lighter than the sample and upon further investigation found the color names did not match. After numerous phone calls and visits to the store, I am very unhappy with their customer service. They want to give us a measly amount back for the carpet or give us the new carpet (however I then have to pay another $1000 to have it reinstalled which would take another 6 mos to a year for me to save being we dont borrow money) as well as my husbands time and energy to move all the furniture again for the installation. This is thousands of dollars worth of a mistake and their lack of ownership for the problem and willingness to remedy it, will keep me from purchasing there in the future or at least not anything over a couple hundred dollars as I do not want to be out more money to this store for something I did not order! Be careful and make sure you double as triple check your order since their employees do not and according to their management that is ok.

Ive been a customer at NFM for a few years now and I just had a terrible experience. I bought a $670 5pc table set and took it home. Upon putting it together one of the chairs came equipped with 2 right legs instead of a right and left. I took the wrong chair leg back to the store and Customer Service tells me they dont have anymore sets so they take my information and tell me that they will order a part and someone will call me in 2 days and tell me how long it will take to get the replacement leg. I decided to go see if the display table was still on the floor and it was so I asked the salesman how many were left and he looks it up and tells me there are 3 sets left. I explained to him the leg situation and asked him why customer service told me they were out and he tells me its because they dont provide replacement parts for customers and that the manufacturer does and if they (the store) replaced they leg it would leave them with a set that has the wrong leg and theyd have to wait for a replacement!!!! Really! You sell me a $670 table set with wrong piece and you wont replace the incorrect piece! You have it in the store and wont replace it cause it means you have to order a replacement part and wait, you would rather the paying customer wait! I asked if I had paid to have it assembled and delivered rather than assembling myself would they have taken the correct leg from another unsold set to ensure it would be assembled and delivered on time and he couldnt answer and decided to just tell me he cant help me. It says a lot about the stores customer service culture that they wouldnt resolve such an easy request from a customer that purchased an item from them that was faulty. Instead of being reasonable they provide a run around. Their priority is to make a sale and then after that they show zero care to step up and take of a customer quickly and effectively if they sold faulty merchandise.
