I just bought a new bike from Donelson, after being out of the motorcycle world for the last 25 years, and I cant speak highly enough of my experience with this dealership - Id give these guys 10 stars if I could. I write very few reviews for places in general - theyve either got to really excel or really be terrible to get me to take the time to write one, and this place definitely excelled. Nearly everyone I dealt with throughout the process was actually part of the Donelson family, from the owner down to his grandson. Each and every person was extremely friendly and laid back. I never once felt pressured into buying something bigger or more expensive, or even into buying anything at all. They asked what I was looking for, LISTENED, and then showed me appropriate options. Id like to give two big shout-outs to a couple of people who just went over the top in making this easy for me. First, once I had decided on the bike, I dealt with Stephen (or possibly Steven - sorry) in the parts and accessories area. He obviously had a strong knowledge of all the various options, showed me good items to pick from, and was super-patient with all my questions. He also handled the delivery of the bike, and again, since I hadnt ridden in such a long time, was really patient with all my questions about the bike. The other person Id like to thank is Mr. Donelson (Carl) himself. When I got the bike, being a bit rusty, I was struggling just a bit. He was leaving for the day to go home, but seeing that I was struggling, offered to take an hour-plus round-trip to take the bike home for me, so that I didnt have to drive right out into St. Charles Rock Road traffic. Then, once he got it to my house, he stayed just to make sure that everyone had gone over everything about the bike with me at the dealership. Honestly, before that, I was already very happy with the dealership, but that really was the icing on the cake, so to speak. Like I said, if Google would let me, Id give this place 10 stars if I could. I expect to be a Donelson customer exclusively for a long time to come. Keep up the good work!

I was on my way into work traveling on I-70 on my bike. I noticed some SCHMUCK in a silver Trailblazer weaving back and forth from the rumble strip in left-hand lane to lane in which I was traveling. I gave him as wide a berth as I could. I presume he was texting and driving or something. A few miles down the road, Karma caught up with him. He was about 75 yards ahead of me when he slammed into the back left side of the poor guy who was in the lane ahead of me. That man slammed on his brakes. The tractor trailer in the adjacent lane slammed on his brakes. I slowed considerably. I thought I had made it through the debris field unscathed. Oh, how wrong I was. As I was traveling on I-170, I could feel the back end of the bike starting to wobble back and forth. I was able to coax the bike to my exit (Olive Blvd) and pulled the bike off to the shoulder. Eventually, I got the bike to the Chevys parking lot. I had to wait until 9:00am for one local dealer to open. I called them and they said they would not have a tire for my motorcycle. They suggested I give Donelson Cycles a try. I called the guys at Donelson. They said they had a tire for my Street Glide and could get me in today. I asked them about what towing service to use. They said no need. Mr. Donelson would be out with a trailer to get the bike. Mr. Donelson was on another line at the time, but promptly called me back. We scheduled a time and I met the team at the bike. The entire staff there was so courteous and professional. It was truly a pleasure to work with them.

I remember Donelson Cycles being nicer to the regular Joe bike owner back in the day. I get the feeling now that if you dont drop a bank roll in their cash register, your basically dirt to them. Smug, attitude laced service and parts dept. The floor sales guys arent much better. Ive dropped onto their shop a few times within the past few months, only to leave the place feeling less appreciated. My last visit was for service. All I needed was one tire mounted on a rear wheel. I was quoted $30.00 to remove old and put on new tire with balancing. I wanted to polish my rim so asked for a removal only .. That was $10.00. Their guy said $22.00 to put new tire on later. (2 bucks more?). Okay whatever. So I went back in to have the new tire put on this wheel . The guy says $37.00 to mount and balance. I tell him the last deal of 22 because of removal fee already paid for ..he agreed . So they get done and the guy charges me $30.00. .so now I paid 40.00 to have tire changed . Not only that, but they gave me stickers for wheel weights. Mag wheels get mag wheel (clip on) weights. Bad attitude all around. Not much of a loss for me, buy they just lost a customer for life.

This is the best motorcycle shop in St. Louis. First, they have the best bikes and a lot of them. Triumphs, Guzzis plus a good selection of the standard brands. Plus they always have cool used bikes. Get this, the parts department actually has parts to fit motorcycles. Every other place says "I can order it" even on the most basic stuff. I couldnt get a spark plug for a 2001 Yamaha at one of the other stores in town. Look, this is 2012, I CAN ORDER PARTS. If I am buying it at retail I need it today, not next week. These guys carry everything. The service department knows more about bikes than I do. This should not be surprising but I cant say it about every place in town. The guys in the basement really know bikes and are friendly and fun to talk to. Plus they dont rip you off.

Had two tires mounted at the South County store, nice guy did decent work and aside from filling the tires to the incorrect pressure (about 10psi too low) all was fine. Went on my way only to find that my metal BMW valve stems and caps were replaced with standard rubber stems. No mention was made of that action to me before or after the tires were mounted. Ill assume that they think their customers are just idiots and that they know more than anyone that walks through the door. The stems and caps from BMW cost me around 85.00 bucks just for the parts and I put them in myself. This organization is obviously in it for the money. If they could make more selling washing machines Im sure they would.

Interesting Place Interesting Comments. Been there several times over the years, for accessories. Always found the staff helpful, good inventory & prices. Never had a bike worked on by them, but I have heard from friends in St Louis that the service shop leaves a lot to be desired. From these posts & comments from friends, Donaldsons service dept souns like all of the motorcycle dealer shops Ive been to - they have crappy service depts. For 99% of us, bikes are an indulgence, unlike cars. They dont get the volume of business year around, so it makes for a tough business model. Live with the poor service, or treat it like the hobby it is & indulge yourself, pick up a wrench, & learn how to DIY.
