I cannot begin to relate the issues I have had with this company. Never before have I dealt with people so unwilling to be fair or admit that maybe the problem lies with them. In August 2016 I ordered a roll top desk and a chair to be delivered to my house in Montana. I arranged and paid for an in-house delivery, and the company knew there would be a set of stairs to deal with. The moving company hired by MO attempted to deliver the items in late October 2016 and could not because, as they said, they needed more than two guys to carry the items up the stairs. The guys from the moving company left with the understanding they would return with more help. When we got no further response from Modern Office or the moving company, we decided to cancel the order. We were told by Laurie at MO that the cost to send the items back to MN would be $167.17. We argued, correctly, that the issue was not our fault, and that the moving company was refusing, for whatever reason, to deliver the items. Then we found out we were charged $438.04 for the return of the items, instead of the $167. This was done without our knowledge or authorization. As my husband and I both told Laurie, the issues with the moving company lie with Modern Office, not with us. I purchased items that the moving company hired by MO refused to deliver, and I withheld no information about my house or where the items would go. All I heard from MO was, No problem Ive had few problems in my life this major. From Modern Offices side, they are saying that the moving company told them they cant get the fully assembled desk up the stairs. That isnt what the delivery guys said when they were at the house, looking at the stairs, and saying this is no problem. The delivery guys reiterated that the items were too heavy for two workers. Period. I will not even go into my dealings with the owner of the delivery company, who apparently had the contact with MO. He was rude, short and unaccommodating, even before the issue became an issue, and this is who MO chooses to do business with. I, of course, couldnt care less who MO does business with. I want my money. The problem could have been solved in October 2016 by simply sending two more guys, for a total of 4 people to deliver a desk and a chair. A desk. And a chair. Wow. What we want now is a refund of the $438.04 amount we were unfairly charged for the return of items Modern Office couldnt deliver. When we asked to speak to the owner, (Reese someone, I think) we were denied. Flat out. Our next step will be to contact our lawyer. Over a $400 dispute. But it will be worth every penny. Lauries complete lack of customer service in this matter has been unlike anything I have experienced in my life. This is a no brainer, an easy fix. Theyre making it harder than it needs to be. I can do hard.

If I could write less than one star for this business, I would. After receiving TWO damaged desks, whose quality didnt even match that of IKEA but at a price point of 10x more, the business REFUSED to return the item and refund us. Their option was to send a THIRD replacement (this has been going on now for over 4-weeks). They wanted us, the customer, to pay for a 220lb desk to be returned to them that was shipped damaged twice. If we wanted to return it because we didnt like it, I would understand paying shipping, but not for product that was warped and damaged. Brad, the manager, provided the worst customer service I have ever received. He not only spoke over me the entire time, he told me that I should have ripped open the box in the middle of the parking lot (where they delivered this desk) to ensure it was not damaged before signing. From the outside of the box, there appeared to be no damages, yet this company decides that it is the customers fault instead of their own. Youre better off buying a desk from IKEA and putting it together yourself for less of a cost and better quality. The customer service of this business is unacceptable and I hope that others do not have to experience this.

I found Modern Office on the web. I called to see if they had a showroom, and found out there was one in my area. I headed to the showroom, looking for a new office desk. The first person I met was Gretchen - she made me feel very welcome and took me back to the showroom to help me find what I was looking for. I was very tight on space, so she took the time to rough out the desk on paper, based on my office dimensions. I picked out a couple that I thought would work - but wanted to shop around. At the next location - they showed me one desk, gave me a pamphlet and sent me on my way. This was no contest - I called Modern Furniture the next day and placed my order. They got me on the schedule to deliver following Friday! The two young men that delivered my desk were very courteous and efficient. They went out of their way to meet a time deadline I had for installation, due to my office needs. I love my desk - everyone that comes to my office makes a comment on how beautiful it is. Its also durable due to how well it is constructed. Now we need some office chairs.... Im heading back to Modern Office!

We ordered a roll-top desk from them last month. The desk was beautiful and very sturdy. However, the lock had malfunctioned with it in the open position and it became unusable and damaged the furniture since it had badly scraped against the side on the roll-tops way down. We had to bring in a locksmith, who inevitably badly damaged the inside of the desk while trying to get the lock back open. The company offered us a $100 discount or to replace the top. We opted to replace the top since wed have been upset each day to see a damaged desk. even if it was cosmetically colored in with a pen.. They were very responsive and now we have a beautiful desk. Im still hoping to get the locksmith fee recouped, as they directed me to engage one; hopefully this will happen soon. Update mid March - 2016, they processed my refund as originally promised, thus upgrading my rating from 4 to 5 stars. We are pleased with the service and the truly quality product they provided.

I bought an Allure Mesh Ergo Chair in July 2008 and it has been perfect for my home office. The other day I heard a crunch and the chair got wobbly. I emailed Modern Office Furniture through their web site and told them the situation. They sent me (by FEDEX) the pneumatic cylinder that moves the chair up and down and they gave me explicit details on how to remove the old cylinder and replace it with the new one. After 4 years I think Reed Swensen at Modern Office Furniture went above and beyond in customer service. I tried to pay them but they said no because they want their customers to be happy and I am very happy. I would also put in a plug for the Allure Mesh Ergo Chair which is fantastic and a lot cheaper than some of the other makes. Thanks Modern Office Furniture and a special thanks to Reed Swensen.
